based on the Steam reviews the game seems to be terrible and it's been largely abandoned by Amplitude, such a shame because the art style makes a very good first impression.
That's a shame if it has, as someone who was looking for an alternative to Civ, I actually don't think its that bad, but you would have to judge for yourself on that one!
WOW I haven't seen this game since 1998! I haven't really been a gamer since those days. Now its 2024 this will be so epic! Iv got to get a suitable computer and get this 100%
What I can't stand the most about Humankind is the unrealistic world design. Hills, cliffs and plateaus literally just thrown everywhere, it's so unrealistic and a nightmare for warfare.
mm mmm... the niab tank is the most powerful unit in the game, teleport with short cooldown, crazy damage againts buildings and vehicles, high damage againt infantry, u can literally tp a squad of them and destroy the mcv! and if they get damaged u just tp em to ur base, also the self repair! the harkonnen tank, buzzsaw, flame and ordos plane C tier, the mortar guys A tier, they're very good, missile tank a tier and hornithopter too infiltrator B tier, they're good on hign nubmers devastators A tier, cmon, projector bug also lol... tge rest seems fine
Rewatching these trailers in this video has hilighted just how good Age of Mythology retold is looking. I mean pretty much all of the games you highlighted are games I like the look of, excluding perhaps atomfall but I think Microsoft nailed theiir showcase this year - lots to be excited by.
36:10 The Ordos shield is not exactly an exploit. Hitting a shielded unit with laser is a mutually guaranteed instant destruction for both the attacker and the victim. The effect does not spread to other shielded units in the vicinity. It is basically a 1v1 suicide run. Considering there are only 2 units (laser tank and sardaukar elite) using lasers, and they both cost 700 to produce, I would say it is a fair trade. Imo the real weakness of laser tanks is its relatively slower rate of fire and possibly lower damage compared to other factions’ counterpart. It requires a bit of rhythm (knowing their rate of fire) to kite your enemies. Long live the fighters!
The menu design reminds me very much of Fortnite. It has all the different tabs and an almost identical layout. It's a real shame that they didn't go for their own spin on it, it would have definitely been more interesting. I hate that monetary system of the items costing more than one particular bundle of currency as it's forcing the player to have to fork out more money than is necessary for something that shouldn't cost that much (or should be free). Microtransactions suck ass big time and should be eradicated in my opinion. It makes for an overall worse player experience and then people are less likely to return to the game. I don't know why games can't use Deep Rock Galactic's free battle pass as a blueprint, it's so much more user friendly.
This popped up on my recommended, I'm a Mario RPG fan... I just wanted to comment and say, I love that you named your channel The Engineering Bay and use the building as a logo... cool idea.
@@theepicbladertvbeytuber6314 The remake’s models of peach, bowser, and Mario are based off of their current designs, which makes them look kinda strange next to every other character in the game.
Mad Max, my beloved. Near-perfect fusion of Ubisoft open-world design with Arkham-style combat, Shadow of Mordor is the only other series I can think of that made combat as crunchy and satisfying. Editing nitpick, your footage of the convoy was nowhere near your discussion of it, with only a small snippet at the end. If you're still feeling car-ish after completing this game, I highly highly recommend you give Pacific Drive a look.
Just for context the footage that I use in the videos is there so that I don't have a black screen for people to look at when watching the video. I can understand the annoyance if watching it and things don't match up to what I'm talking about, but I only use footage as an after thought, I like to think that what I'm talking about in these videos is the important part! However feedback is always welcome and appreciated!
I brought it up because at 7:35 you specifically say "You can see in the footage I'll be putting up here how crap I am at dealing with convoys." It sounded like you intended to place footage of a convoy there.
@@1_random_commenter Before I did the voice over work for the video I had recorded about 30 minutes of footage before hand expecting the video to be longer, but in the end you only see a small amount of me doing the convoy mission.
its been awhile since i bought the title, and i was amazed at first. but the game had a major bug that made playing not possible. imagine playing humankind, from stoneage to atomic age, than you drop the 4. atomic bomb, close to world domination and you start noticing, that everything gets choppy, even the soundfile starts to stutter to a point where the game will crash after a set ammount of turns, simply cause the game has been programmed that way. i dont know why that was the case, but you could play like 400 turns, and than the game ends by a crash that crash is the reason for the bad reputation on steam about the game. you simply cant even end a game propperly before it falls apart. is that still an issue or did they fix this?
I'm open to not covering their products again, but what's your reason? Saying "Don't do it" without an explanation isn't the best way to provide and argument against it.
@@TheEngineeringBayOfficial Activision isn't any better now than they were 4 years ago. Being part of Microsoft can clearly only make them worse. Microsoft is king of fucking their customers.
I understand there is an argument to be made for AB to not be any better than they were when this all kicked off originally. However to my knowledge there is no public comment from Devs there on this stuff, only thing that gets talked about currently is the layoffs and the unionizing. Bobby leaving is a good thing, but I understand there's no reason for the new person not to be the exact same. What's the issue with MS?
That's all subjectivity, I don't actually like or play many AB games but saying their games suck is not really a great reason to not cover the few games I enjoy.
I remember wanting to try the first one back on Wii U but I think the price prevented me lol. I think it was like $30? Just felt like way too much money lol. Anyway, hope you're doing well!
In the UK its £7.99 on Nintendo Switch now, so hopefully it's not to bad where you are in the world! I 100 percent recommend it. I'm doing great thank you, hope you are too!
Great tier list, I remember I loved Ordos' fast Laser tank+APC+Dust Scout rush, very mobile force capable to deal with any type of enemy unit, continous in and out harassments from different directions drove my friends crazy in LAN parties back in the day
Picked it up for around USD $5. Been avoiding it for years because of bad reviews but my curiosity got the best of me. Thanks for re-reviewing it all these years later. I'm a fan of your style!
If I were to play Dune II again, it would be in the ideal version. So with modern controls, resolution, etc. AND with the music and sounds of the Amiga version. The atmosphere that is created when the "spherical" music plays in the background while you play is simply unique. In contrast, all the other versions (and this also applies to the source ports) don't have much more to offer than droning.
Greetings 😊 ... I have played Humankind for about 30-ish hours total myself and yes ❤ I agree.... The ability to change your Civilization at every next age is Amazing idea, and works very well ❤. Love your videos.
Nah... its still bad. Maybe in a vacuum i would call it average, but it exists in genre with absolute titans. Even the little bit of fun i could squeeze from it was immensely overshadowed by the feeling that i could have way more fun with any other game in the genre or even just its predecessor. That right there is the biggest mark against TL3. It just can't compete for someone's attention.
I maxed out 2 characters and still have it downloaded on my Nintendo switch. I enjoyed it for what it is. I mean it’s not game of the year or anything by any means but still is something you can enjoy.
People haven't been hard on it without a reason. Devs were lazy and greedy - did a mobile iteration and they were ready to pile a mountain of gold via microtransactions over a pile of garbage. Gamers showed them middle finger and they 'apologise' and recoded it to 'torchlight 3'. Not much peeps believed them and that's why it's dead and down voted. Loved TL and TL2. This was spit in a face.
plz turn on quick combat after 900hours mate and the ribbon hud.... this is a god tier start what difficulty is this on and do you have the seed and settings ?
People complaining 😂 and I don't care. But I DO like the explanation of Districts and Levels Level 1 ... Cool 😊... Civ 6 I have 200 Hours in in my account.😂 I think I am still Player Level 1, because 😮 I am just someone who likes to try things and mods ... Like "I want to Roleplay as a SCUBA Diving Cult" and settle a city next to Reefs with Turtles 😅
I understand that it can feel a little chaotic, because if you are in combat (and yes it can be frenetic, you can lose whole armies rapidly and they are costly to make) there can be two or three actions that are not done and it could provoke more problems...but I really like the mix of combat, politics, intel/secret operations, economy all with a good Dune universe background and the numerous options to win (in fact the obvious one, destroying others, is the less easy one) so you can came back from really horrible situations if you are really good in one of those things. I think that people that like RTS won't like this, is not exactly 4X because really exploring is really only very limited and you can turtle yourself to ignore combat a part defensive actions but it certainly not RTS, it's much more grand strategy and you really have to like the universe and spent time learning factions (I like that they are quite different and not balanced in some areas) and reading tooltips, so casual RTS gamers will hate this.
Big dune fan... However , this game it looked great, bought it at release then played it a couple of times, never touched it again.... .. its just not so fun , very slow and the action is not good in my opinion... And i really miss combat vehicles... Like tanks... I am probably spoiled by dune games action by good old westwood.
Likewise, anyone who enjoys Advance Wars and turn-based strategy more generally: Consider giving Wargroove a shot. It iterates and often improves on the systems in Advance Wars, and has a really thoughtfully-written story, complete with codex entries for virtually every element of the game (which can all be ignored if you're just there to smash units together). Wargroove 1 and 2 are each $20 full price, and I highly recommend them. They're not perfect, but well worth playing for any fans of the genre.
@@TheEngineeringBayOfficial Next time you're thinking about replaying the Advance Wars campaign, consider a playthrough of Wargroove instead. It's a very substantial story.
I'm someone who rarely finishes open world games. I generally hate them - I get burnt out, I HATE tedious tasks, and I lose the story because I feel the need to chase everything. I just started my second playthrough on this game, and it's radically shifted how I view games. I really hope more games start to use this style, because I might just shift on open worlds. My first playthrough, I played bard. I skipped the underdark entirely, talked my way out of every boss encounter I could, and stealthed around every combat I was physically able to. I also played explorer because I played very early access and remember the pain that was the goblin town XD. My second playthrough I'm running a Lae'zel origin and skipped the grove entirely - didn't talk to anyone I didn't need to, never found gale, never visited the goblin camp. Basically, if you want to revisit it, I'd suggest just playing through as a character and not looking at the map or trying to do things in a specific way. Running this as a completionist would have killed my enjoyment of it too, but instead I just shrug and go "eh, I can get that another playthrough if I want to". It's massively increased my enjoyment. (I've especially enjoyed playing as an origin character, because I have my priorities and I know what I'm trying to accomplish and where my focus needs to go)
As a comparison - I burnt out hard on breath of the wild before I hit the first town. I have never made it past the first dragon encounter in skyrim. I LOVE the dragon age series, but it took me 6 years to finish inquisition and I still have never gotten through the trespasser dlc. this is the first game to ever reward me for running as a non-completionist with outcomes and narrative differences. I love it for that.
Not liking the combat as much definitely is valid. The bugs, especially in act 3 and back in September - yeah there were quite a few apparently (wasn't in that act back then). It sounds like you had way more issues than I had even in the earlier game though - for example I only had two crashes in one evening when one of the patches caused an issue, which was then fixed within 24 hours. The length issues are a bit weird to me - especially in an RPG there pretty much is no "too long" unless it's bloated with needless filler search quests for items or similar (AC says hi).
The length issue is that I felt the game started to run out of steam in Act 3 e.g. combat felt a little pointless and the game felt like it could have had some content slimmed a little. But its a subjective thing.
The matter of surprise is just a get good issue, honestly. It's not a difficult game, even on tactician. Honour has difficult parts, but not really any surprise encounters that are all that challenging.
I have a newer video talking about BG3, go watch that if you want updated thoughts on the game. Having a 'get good' attitude is kind of toxic. Not a fan of that.
I do agree that after level 12, some combat can feel pointless. However, you really need to go ahead and finish the game because the ending cinematics are excellent and rewarding.
I watched/read reviews before i played the game. I also put over 100 hours in the game across a few different playthroughs. If you dont agree with my subjective opinions thats ok, but dont assume i didnt play it or watch reviews.
The game had quite a few bugs at start, but that's pretty much a standard of larger games nowadays. However, BG3 is excusable because of being so incredibly open. Maybe give it another try? Works like a charm nowadays after 16 fixes + 5 patches :) And they added lots of missing lines, quest bits, so you'll still feel novelty. (Or just pick other classes/races/party composition) I can agree regarding "too much combat", battles feels amazing on Act 1 and 2 because you're progressing, testing new stuff and encounters are widely varied, but Act 3 has a lot of repetitive encounters, you're mostly fully stuffed so it's always the same moves, and the density of fights is too high. Not as bad as literally every other D&D-based games, but still improvable I guess.
Picked it up at xmas. So playing with lots of bugs already addressed... that said, it's a massive time sink. I'm 80 hours in and still have mountain pass and underdark left in act 1. Also, the game doesn't tell you 80% of what you need to know, I prob had 50 hours in and 30 youtube videos before I felt like I knew what I was doing. Design and game mechanics seem to make the game longer than it need be. Inventory alone is a nightmare.
