is it possible using OctaMed to play samples from the Amiga soundchip while triggering midi devices at the same time? like for example if i wanted to play a drum loop from the amiga while triggering a bass synth on another channel?
OH at 6:50 he literally sets up to do this lol. this is soo cool, one of these computers could have been a godsend for anyone making music from home at the time. the best drum machine you could afford also plays games and helps you type up homework!
Hi, interesting video. I'm also using a 1200 inside my midi studio, using Baras and pipes. OCtamed sound studio doesn't work very well here : assign problems, midi problems ("cannot locate serial port"). I'm using the free version available on the internet. ANy help will pbe appreciated. thanks
I came accross a used one for a good price back in those days, but I was just starting out so I knew I liked it in the store but beyond that....I would have had to wait till my next pay check to get it 4 days later....I impatiently got a groove box that day. It was a Yamaha grovebox and I hated using it like all hell. The synth got sold and I never saw another one again....Forward to now and I'd still die to have one, but that price tag makes it impossible. I could potentially go for a JP-8000 but it's just not the JP-8080...That thing is iconic. Actually, The exact pair you have in front of you would be my dream setup. The 2 genres of music I like most are Trance and DnB.
I missed it first time round too but luckily picked it up before prices sky-rocketed several years back. The other week I tried looking for similar softsynths, the JP6K comes very close to the supersaw, but doesn't have chorus (I'd probably be able to replicate in Ubermod) but nothing seems to emulate the Feedback OSC (a big part of the synth for me for those hard sounds). A lot of synths like Diva I found too harsh, the synth is actually softer than you think. The Virus B is deep, it is probably 10x the engine of the JP even though smaller. The Osirus plugin is identical to the Virus B sound-wise, very impressive.
@@RaveyStabs The virus synth has a workaround. You can use the rom on a pc. Search youtube, I've come accross people doing it successfuly in videos and showing how....I'm trying to keep my environment as disconected from the puter as possible. I want to play with knobs and sliders, so I never tried.
Looks amazing ! What would be the chances of you creating something similar with a full tracker note-interface? I come from a tracker background originally but migrated to Ableton a few years back, but am still not used to the Piano-Roll way of doing things. Would love to compose melodies and drum tracks using something like this and then dragging/exporting the pattern into the DAW
Yes, I”m going to evolve this with fixed notes and maybe even make a separate MIDI tracker now I have made the engine, which I do have a rough prototype of with scrolling. I’ll do a drums video with this as its not a bad scratchpad. And yes I”m not a piano roll fan either, this works well as a replacement!
@@RaveyStabs Incredible - thank you so much for your quick response. Gonna buy this this week and can't wait to see how the project evolves. It'll completely revolutionise my workflow if I can 'track' again with the 'grown-up' DAWs - I really miss composing that way (sometimes fire up Jeskola Buzz to scratch my tracking itch!) EDIT: Bought but unfortunately Windows Defender is giving a false positive and immediately deleting it. Have reported the false positive to them and an hopefully updated defininitions will allow me to grab it soon :)
Just bought, annoyingly Windows Defender gives the installer a false positive for Trojan:Win32/Wacatac.B!ml and immediately deletes it - so can't try it at the moment... have just submitted it to the Microsoft site to get the false positive removed from their future definitions
@@mcbpete Have added another download (zipped VST3). This is a common issue apparently with the installer software I used, looking into a different one now.
This was great. I had to back up and rewatch sections multiple times but this was the best in depth octamed tutorial I've seen even though none of it was explained. I got most of it thru watching closely. It really shows just how great Octamed 4 really is.
Rombo Megamix Master I had, one on ebay UK right now but I'd say look for Technosound Turbo 2 (one on ebay also now) or Microdeal MegaloSound, those do the same but are better since they can work directly in OctaMED too.
@@RaveyStabs thanks mate where can i get the sd thing you have so i can use existing samples? do i need anything else or just the sd box? could you link me to one please
@@amerism4530 I have a pcmcia Sandisk compact flash (CF) adapter in the Amiga, a 4gb CF card, and a CF usb reader on PC. All quite cheap to get, do remember the setup on Amiga being a bit of a ball ache, but it works quite well when done. Copy files onto card from PC, read on Amiga. Enthusiast territory. If you are new to platform, keep an eye on A600GS coming soon, its going to be around £100 and might just replace my Amiga and make this sort of thing a lot easier with mod cons e.g. over WIFI. Plus OctaMED 8 with a lot more channels.
Nice guide, thanks! If you're using a TX81Z, with the donk bass, you have to use ratios 1.06 & 2.00 for the operators. Then transpose down an octave. It can't dial in a ratio of 0.53, the closest is setting 0.56, and that sounds totally different.
I'm flabbergasted time & time again this story apparently didnt make it out of germany like - ever? (until few years ago) hardly any non germans know about it, at least those I tried to explain to why I wont touch ANYTHING Scooter voluntarily EVER again! That explanation thx 2 your work now is EAZY as can be! ...did own one of those rare 12" Ultrasonic vinyls <3
Very nice! I have just bought a TX18Z and Stereoping controller for it. Your channel is going to be very useful! I would love it if you could disect some N-Joi rave sounds. They were the masters, imho, and the first techno I heard back in '91. See 'Live In Manchester', half an hour of incredible noises.
Nice! So is it only a very specific sound on the 202 that gets "the Pump Panel sound," once you apply overdrive and distortion? Or is it pretty much any sound the 202 makes? Thanks.
