Indeed Etali is strong, but if replaced with more synergistic card you can help extract more value out of the deck rather than just a singular strong card.
it is a cool creative deck and in order to consistently do that cool creative thing you have to make some changes... to reduce the amount of nongame you have...
Helga is my favorite commander so far from BLB, feels so unique, definitely building a deck around her. Maha is also pretty cool, but as you said he is likely going to generate quite a bit of salt and I don't want that when playing kitchen table type of games with friends.
@@jabrilwhitethe only restriction is that it has to be four or greater mana. Other than that Helga draws cards, gets bigger, and adds mana. To me it just seems like very boring card design.
Excellent recommendations. The fetches are likely the lowest risk things you could collect after a reprint. I'd advise looking at Buried Alive $.25, Priest of Titania $.25, Kaalia of the Vast $.65, Strix Serenade $1.6, Cover of Darkness $4, Reconnaissance $1.4, Archangel of Tithes $1, surgical extraction $.58, and Dust Bowl $.30
So I'll give you a couple suggestions. Staff of domination combos with the first line, but also with green cards like karametra's acolyte and black cards like magus of the coffers. Speaking of black cards there's mikaeus the unhallowed that can combo with that walking ballista as well as triskelion.
The second combo doesnt go infinite since its state based. It only does enough damage to destroy all valid targets and stops itself when you win the game. What a silly combo
I NEED TO ASK ! ... "copying" a spell, also triggers abilities like... Guttersnipe. for example: STELLA LEE. you do 2 instances of instant/sorcery, then you do a third You COPY THAT... Guttersnipe will trigger in the first 2, and the 3TH, but it will ALSO TRIGGER ON THE COPY ???
should the copy ALSO trigger on Young Pyromancer ? making a 1/1 each time you copy something with Stella lee ??? _ i have this question coz SOME cards do say "when you cast or copy". but those cards i mention just say "when you cast"...
If your referring to the isochron scepter loop Guttersnipe says : whenever you CAST an instant or sorcery Isochron Scepter says : copy the exiled card and CAST it for free so yes guttersnipe would see this and do 2 damage to each opponent. Regarding Stella lee i believe it to work like this... Stella Lee says 'tap' copy instant/sorcery you control (this means on the stack) so the copy would be created and not cast. This would not trigger guttersnipe as he cares about cards being cast. So you would get guttersnipe triggers on the first 3 spells CAST but not the COPY stella creates. hope that helps. Edit: this is also true for young pyromancer as they also just care about cards being cast. Something like 'storm kiln artist' would trigger of both the cast and copy as it states both effects in its text.
@@Spencer4686 oh, awesome! thank you so much. I want to build a strong CEDH deck, with Stella Lee, as i do not have CEDH, i mostly build budget decks... So i understand Stella can copy some spells than make her go Infinite ... but i want to find a easy and cheap way to just winning, that is not just Twisted Fealty
@@MrRomanrin have you checked the CEDH database? cedh-decklist-database.com/ Niv Mizzet was my first CEDH deck loads of Izzet combos that can win quickly plus your in blue so all the counter spells to protect your win and stop your opponents. 👍
apart from the goodness of the announcement itself, one thing that player don't like is change, especially within months: at the start of the year they introduced play booster, then the beyond booster with AC and now another one?
and will we see another style of product for foundation sets which are core sets but not core sets... who knows... I think if play booster where just more affordable that would solve the issue we have for making product more 'accessible/cheaper' for new players, as this just further justifies buying singles.
You can also achieve a 1-sided land wipe using March of the Machines, Mycosynth Lattice, and Chief of the Foundry to turn all lands into 0/0 artfact creatures.
I do mycosynth lattice, darksteel forge, and a destroy all artifacts (Nevinyrral's disc) then combine that with a remove all hexproof and shroud (arcane lighthouse land or shadow spear) then u have a infinite bored wipe along with a unwinding clock and its pretty much over because yes it would destroy all lands too :3
@jassykinz I like cycling Decree of Annihilation with the Lattice-Forge combo. Harder to stop, you can do it at instant speed, and it replaces itself. Infinite Nev's Disk is basically game over and has made friends threaten to quit the pod which is why I stopped using it
Man, if you love combos so much, please don't play Commander. I am so sick of all the Commander decks which do nothing but ramp, tutor, combo. Why? Because they always play the same cards and that is against the idea of a singleton format like Commander! If you love to always play the turns cards over and over again, go to Modern where people are used to this and you actually have a challenge. PS: I still like the video, it was nicely done and well explained. It's just that I dislike the idea of combos in commander.^^
How about not telling others how to play or enjoy commander? If you don’t like combos in commander that’s totally fine, also finding a play group that has the same mindset is totally fine. But there are enough play groups out there that enjoy playing with combos and there is absolutely nothing wrong with that either.
I get you, remember though it's possible to have a combo as an alt wincon in your deck or play a combo without tutors it's rare i get it and frustrating when people play with super optimal decks but that's not most players in my experience. Anyways chin up and thanks for the nice words around the video i appreciate it!
If we're talking about having fast mana in the deck, then Ancient Gold Dragon is just an auto include. 5 and 2 White for a 7/10 Dragon with Flying and whenever it deals damage combat damage to a player you can make up to 20 1/1 blue faerie dragon tokens. It's a chunky creature that can get out of control extremely quickly and basically forces your opponent to answer it. It's about $15.
If playing mono-white I'd recommend considering Martyr's Cry as card draw. I consider Land Tax & Tithe to be card advantage, not Ramp. Wrath of God was one of the first sweepers I pulled from one of the first packs I ever added. I find at this point that I prefer effects that don't specifically destroy creatures - Farewell (of course), Hallowed Burial, and Sunfall, for start. I'm also a fan of Cleansing Nova as it can take care of Enchantments & Artifacts. During the Tutors section you called out Academy Rector as Academy Manufactor.
Martyrs Cry is an interesting card. Exile all your white creatures for a big burst of card draw. Sorcery speed lets it down a litte due to the type of effect it is. If you have lots of white creature tokens could net you a lot of card draw. the problem is if you draw it late game and you need your creatures to defend.. it becomes a dead card unless all players are running mono white decks... :/ Exile creatures is great on sweepers as like mentioned gets round graveyard shenanigans ;) yeah I miss spoke but i got the right card on screen haha. sorry about that >.<
@@Spencer4686 Martyr's Cry is far from perfect or consistent. I view it as part of casting a board wipe. I tend to play more boardwipes than I should, perhaps.
Little off topic but you seem to know alot if I put lightning greaves on a creature if won't prevent+1 counters or say ezuri experience counters ? Thanks
lightning greaves gives 'Shroud' which means equipped creature can't be target of anything (spells, abilities) that includes by you as well as your opponents. If a card or effect says give all creatures +1+1 counter it won't change anything. If the card/ability says give 'Target' creature a +1+1 counter lightning greaves says no you can't target this creature because I'm giving it 'Shroud'. As for experience counters that goes on you the player not a creature so lightning greaves has no bearing on that even if equipped to Meren. So even if Meren or Ezuri you have the experience counters on yourself the player.
@@Spencer4686 I made a deck very similar to your meren deck it's pretty good maybe one day you can do one for ezuri I'm building him now he seems like he will be fun
@@keithmahler4236 Ezuri claw of progress? if so very nice i use to have a ezuri deck considered putting it back together the other day actually. love me some +1+1 counters 👌
I tried the combo with yaw mik and gray but it doesn't seem to work bc I could not figure out how to stop gray from getting the +1 counter being he's not human so he could have the undying any help thanks
I have a combo video coming out soon. But here's a brief explanation. Activate Yawgmoth pay 1 life sac gray merchant. EDIT: declare target of the effect on a 2nd creature (the -1/-1 counter) Mikaeus triggers bringing back the gray merchant as he's non-human Resolve the Yawgmoth trigger now. Activate Yawgmoth sac the 2nd creature and target Gray Merchant with the -1/-1 counter. Mikaeus triggers bringing back the other non human creature with undying. Look at the placement of the colon in Yawgmoth ability, you pay the activation cost then do the resolution due to how the stack works Mikaeus trigger jumps on top because of the death trigger. EDIT: this is true but you need to declare the Yawgmoth target first so a 2nd creature (with undying) is needed to make a complete loop. Hope that helps
@@Spencer4686 I don't believe that works because Mikaeus gives Gary undying, and since undying uses the stack, it will come back after Yawgmoth declares a target for the -1/-1 counter. You need to bounce the -1/-1 counters back and forth between Gary and another creature. (yes, I know that's super easy to do, but it is just another step)
You are indeed correct, my apologies this comes down to when you declare the target of yagmoth's ability - when the tigger goes on the stack. Gray Merchant won't be there as he was part of the cost. so you would need to bounce between two creatures. Good catch, thank you!
I love Maarika, but I play her with arena and fight themed cards like its a UFC match. Waiting for Universes Within to be printed sucks though, still waiting for a UW Lara Croft -.-
I used to play Maarika at one point and the deck was about fight mechanics, Last Laugh and similar effects, I played Blazing Sunsteel and Fiendlash in it as key pieces. Unfortunately, the deck didn't play as well as I hoped, so I switched it to Indoraptor I pulled from a pack.
Yeah she is mostly built as a fight style commander according to EDH rec I guess that gives her a more control style game plan..? I just thought running equipment just allows for beat down on a very nice body that then also slows your opponents progress. Which helps the game plan even more. Maybe the sweet spot is in between?
You can let each trigger pass through priority if you want, provided your doing it on your turn because you will keep going back to your main phase where you hold priority again to start the next action. If your doing it in response or on someone else's turn you have to be careful as if it get backs to their main phase they hold priority until they do something so you have to wait for a game action to occur before you can trigger anything again. hope that helps.
Gray, merchant of asphodel (Gary). Is a card from the Theros setting. It's a great reanimation target to help you stabilise, or accelerate ahead in a game and is a fantastic choice in a Mikeaus, Yawgmoth combo loop.
This took me a while to understand but heres how I will word it in case people are still confused. So the first 4 creatures that you are choosing to exile never leave the battlefield to begin. The paralax wave that you target will go on the stack, itgets exiled, a new trigger goes on the stack, which says return everything back which at that point the only thing that has been removed was the wave so that renters the battlefield, and then the other 4 triggers happen and they get moved and since the trigger that was supposed to bring them back has already resolved, they simply remain exiled. Again, if you were to target wave first, then the 4 creatures, what would happen is that the 4 creaures get exiled, wave gets exiled, trigger goes on the stack, thus returning all 5 thing to the battlefield, which you could use to abuse any of your enter the battlefield triggers.
neat video but in the next one you make give us more examples of great cards with haste. Don't we have round 30k cards? find at least a few more examples.
Swiftfoot Lightning greaves Lavaspur boots Anger Concordant crossroads Mass hysteria Crashing drawbridge It really depends on your deck, do you want everything to have haste, just haste on the turn you want to alpha strike or just for specific creatures like your commander...
If you are a good graveyard player, you run hate for graveyard hate. I will not shy away from running something like a jester's cap in my Meren deck, for the soul purpose locating graveyard hate pieces and exiling them right out the deck.
@@Spencer4686 I hadn't looked at that one before, but I'm afraid it won't. It doesn't untap anything, or pay off the other permanents tapping to do their own thing. It gives the merfolk/changelings something different to tap for. If it said "Whenever the first merfolk you control becomes tapped each turn..." I could make it work. But as it's worded I'd need to change the deck into a completely different deck. Thanks for the thought, though. That's why I made the comment in the first place.
@@JervisGermane yeah kumena is a pay off for tapping merfolk so benefits greatly from seedborn muse, murkfiend Liege, quest for renewal and merrow commerce. as they give you multiple untaps each turn. You could add white and go 'Dervei' she taps and untaps target permanents... ❓
@@Spencer4686 Again, that's a completely different deck. I appreciate your tips, but I'm looking for a commander that fits what my deck already does, not looking to modify the deck to fit a commander. It has a lot of elves, merfolk, and humans with tap abilities. It needs a commander that either untaps them, or has something triggered by them tapping to do their thing, not taps them to do something else. I'm pretty sure nothing's been printed for that yet. Unless I wanted to change colors, as you said for Derevi.
Don't forget! On your meren plays, when you get the commander on the table, Viscera Seer can Sac itself, you push a Exp Counter and it get back into play in the same turn with meren! Cankerbloom is also awesome, you can pay 1 to sac it with meren in play, and even if you have no Exp counters, you can choose to Proliferate, it goes to the stack, then meren trigger before proliferate resolves, letting you get that Exp Counter, and then resolve proliferate and add another one. If you do it in your main phase, thats enough to bring back the cankerbloom in your endstep and repeat, you got youself 4 Exp counters in a single turn!
Graveyard Hate is not flashy but very necessary; i find that the most usable cards are the ones that slot in the deck for other reason and accidentally hate your opp's GY; perfectly fitting this definition i would recommend Honored Heirloom and Vessel of Endless Rest
I have and will blow up lands, i run very strong utility lands and if you lose because of them that is your fault. I won a game by blowing up the lands of someone running Eight-and-a-Half-Tails. It was my only course of action to win. My friend respected it as it was a way to stop him.
If you say "You can't interact with a land drop" then I worry you don't know triggers go on the stack (blue players can run Disallow), and the permanents with the triggered abilities can be interacted with before the land drop. Sure someone could cast Tatyova (blue, white, and red players can interact) and then play their land drop before you get priority a 2nd time. However that happens once. After that you can remove the Landfall Trigger card before they are allowed to play another land. (Also don't forget to remove the permanents that grant the extra land drops) Also there is a world of difference between using Beast Within on someone's only Mountain vs using it on their Field of the Dead, Glacial Chasm, Alchemist Refuge, or other utility land. Casual commander is okay with single target removal for dangerous lands. Final tip: The weakness of a Mana Ramp decks is the tempo loss (regardless of whether it uses mana dorks, artifacts, auras, or lands). If they invest more turns/mana/cards into increasing their mana, then you invested more turns/mana/cards into winning the game. Don't discount the free damage and permanents you played.
Yes, You can interact once the trigger is on the stack. But they still get the value as it's already on the stack. If it's a fetch land it goes like this... Play land Trigger on stack (value guaranteed) You target 'payoff card's with removal They crack fetch in response 2nd Trigger on stack (value guaranteed) We then resolve stack... Basically If they play a 'landfall pay off' and it resolves and then they play a land directly after priority doesn't shift between players before that trigger goes on the stack unless they move phases.
@@Spencer4686 Try this sequencing instead: They cast the landfall card (if it is already in play, then target it before the main phase instead and they get nothing) After the landfall card resolves they get priority. They play a fetch. The fetch causes 1 land fall trigger. They get priority but they pass priority. You get priority but you pass priority. They resolve the 1st landfall trigger and then crack their fetch They pass priority You get priority You blow up Tatyova in response to the fetch's activated ability. Result: They paid 5 mana to draw 1 card. That is a bad deal for them. That is a huge profit on dealing with landfall. Now you know one of your ways to interact. Ah but what if they don't crack their fetch? They can play another land right? Except they either don't have another land drop OR one of their permanents was vulnerable to removal before the first land was played. Kill the Azusa while Tatyova is on the stack and then kill Tatyova while the fetch's activated ability is on the stack. Ah but what if it is Aesi instead of Tatyova. In that case kill Aesi in response to their Fetchland triggering Aesi but before they crack it. In that case they paid 6 mana to draw 2 cards. 5 mana draw 1 (and eat 1 removal) is a terrible rate 6 mana draw 2 (and eat 1 removal) is a terrible rate You can interact.
Now Avenger of Zendikar + land is a 7 mana create an army of 1|2s. However Howl of the Nightpack is a 7 mana create an army of 2|2s. This is the only landfall payoff card that creates a big enough threat from a single trigger. However it is on rate with what sorceries do for the same mana. So counter it or play your wrath next turn. Simple interaction.
Also we should remember 3 colors (Blue, White, Red) can counterspell the Landfall card. That is yet more interaction you have as an option. They cast Aesi. They pass priority, you get priority. Tibalt Trickery Aesi. Landfall deck is sad. Black should get something like "Discard half your hand and sacrifice half your creatures, counter target spell". Black has trouble interacting with Fireballs to the head.
