I've talked a few people out of buying a MB. When I explain this issue and how they treated their customers, these potential buyers changed their minds and went with other car makers. MB must have bribed the judge in the class action lawsuits filed against them, they got off without paying for damages.. They were totally at fault - 100%. Not a shadow of a doubt. I'm done with them. Lesson learned.
i think the new balance shaft will never fail is because the old balance shaft was not correctly heat treated so over years it will shear slowly until the chain slip
Great video I have a 06 CLK350 a just hit 200k miles car drives amazing other than my suspension replacing again "very rough driver" so I'm getting ready to do timing chain guides rails and tensioner my question is can I just remove the front clip bumper lights grill radiator elec fans and whatever else might be in the way wouldn't the give me access to everything without pulling the motor?
Is there anyway to get this job done without taking the engine out? I have an 06 E350 at about 100k miles, still no problems but my intake manifold actuator lever is broken....😂
I'd hate to work for a company like Mercedes Benz that lies to its customers like they do. They lied about this issue for years, and still are. But that's not all, I just talked to a tow guy that said even newer MBs were failing everywhere and leaving people stranded. He should know, he tows them for a living.
That’s probably a guy who can’t afford to buy one. Those are usually the only people who talk trash about German cars. So nahhhh mb pretty solid. They obviously recalled it that’s how we know about the issue to begin with.
Thanks for great video! I’m doing my m273, and looks everything good, except I can’t get timing marks in perfect line especially on right bank. Copper links are in place. I was suggested that my one or both exhaust sprockets lost tension due to removal of chain tensioner without locking sprockets. I used nails for locking. How do I test it? Any advice on timing?
GReat video, i have to attempt the same job, my front timming cover cracked, needs replacment. My qestion is, using the e12 universal socket as shown in the video, do i still need to remove the cam covers/intake and exhaust gears. Or can i manage with the opening created by the front cam-shaft sensor covers. Please advice
The removal of the cam covers, exhaust/intake cam shaft gears are to assist with reaching for the bottom 2 bolts at each side (which hold the head against the timming cover) and removing the timming chain. If using the e12 universal socket along a long extention does the job i can get away with not removing the cam covers/intake and exhaust cam gears. I need to just the replace the forward timming chain cover. Please letme know. Thanks
For to mention that there was a national Class action suit that you could have gotten some financial help. Too late now though in anyone reads this comment. Here is the website: topclassactions.com/lawsuit-settlements/closed-settlements/86803-mercedes-engine-defect-class-action-settlement/
This Just happened to my 06 R350. 70K miles. 3800 for repair. Collecting info help on how do this myself. Likely a year long project for me. Lucky I have a 2nd MB, likely to develop the same issue.
How often does the replaced balancer shaft go out? I am considering buying one of these vehicles, but if the balancer is a continuous problem I might want to stay away from it
Yes. If the Engine # falls within the bad balance shaft range, avoid. Run in the other direction. Do not buy. I have my engine on a stand in my garage looking very much like this guys motor. If it's not the engine, it will be the transmission, which cost me $4500 to repair after owning the car for 6 months.
1 Leg 2 Wheels supposedly the problem was bad heat treating and the replacements were properly hardened. I got tired of not being able to get parts in general and sold the car. The turbine speed sensor is another common problem that i paid a grand to the dealer because they had to replace the whole valve body. General rule is if you cant afford a new one, dont buy a used german car.
I need the info in this video but I couldn't go 2 minutes without stopping. It's torture to watch this guy say "aammm" between every other word!! Stop it, form your thoughts before recording dude. But yeah thank you for the info.
has anyone removed the three layers of the head gasket to install the timing cover??? i mean does it work ok without them just using silicone ??, thank you!!!!
This is an important question no one has answered yet. I've been combing through the net to figure it out. If you know the answer contact me at OptimisticPrimate7@gmail.com
Daily Inspiration just enough for it to line up the split portion. Its very stiff. The cam timing is set by dots that line up as described in the video.
Just rebuild the entire engine, keep it straight and simple. Cost more up front but so much more worth the mind set. Yes, I have a 06 M272 and yes Im completely rebuilding my engine. If your replacing your oil pump because of metal in the oil, wouldn't that tainted oil full metal have pumped through your crank and rod bearings? Sometimes being crafty and blaming the dealership doesn't help you not sound cheap.
HI my GL500-2012 after 30minute if I turn my vehicle off and start again it will start cranking very week and delay for the engine to start (note that when the engine is cold everything is ok) please advice
to sickspeed monte .... your videos are informative .... where did you buy your parts after all of this .... our 07 c230 has only 66 k miles and has check eng codes for this problem.
I've really appreciated your M272 balance shaft videos as I work through the same repair on my M273. Do you recall where you mounted your engine sling to pull the engine?
will this happen to an engine with 32k on it. I bought a replacement motor for a e350 that had 164k on it from a salvage that had 32k on it but when I got the engine in, it had a tick in it. the oil was very clean because when I replaced the rear seal, the pan was very clean.
did all your impulse wheel line up at 305 after you got done? mine right one is off and getting a p0016 cam pos sensor for the impulse wheel that's off
Just watched a similar vid- he replaced the water pump and a plate with a seal that goes I think on the rear of engine--I cant say much for MB quality and design for longevity
I have problems with my 04 CLS 350 W219. Pretty sure the same problems that go around the same engine models, engine light coming up, rough gear change from 1-2, 2-3. Sometimes after a long fast drive, when stopping at a traffic light it will suddenly goes into a crazy wobbly idle. Checked in the computer, says some misfiring in chamber 3 or something. Im guessing its the balance shaft too. It would be too costly for me to send it out to my workshop, is it possible for me to do it myself?
