Subscribed! If only people knew how useful making springs are. I am now doing this for my firearms especially ARs that have lots of springs. Thank you very much.
I just found your videos, thank you for it all. I hope you still answer questions. To do stress relief, to what temperature do you heat the springs, for how long and how do you cool it down ?
1. U must put ur hand behind the spring to get ur camera focused onto the spring u just made! Or put the spring on a clean sheet of white paper 2. Can see the most important part of this video: The hook jig to start coiling a wire. 3. Just buy an appropriate diameter/gauge piano wire for the raw mat'l
Watching your videos saved me from having to drive to the nearest large town to get some springs I badly needed, and the money in gas plus the cost of the factory springs. Thank you for posting these videos.
It would be nice to learn what wire is required for that, and could you, e.g. «temper» or «harden» a soft wire to make it springworthy, and should it be before or after the bending. Thank you.
Thanks for your great videos, really appreciate fundamental knowledge from the expert. Could you tell us more about the stress release afterwards, please? 👍
Quick question, i just made a replacement slide stop spring for my gun using a paper clip, its working fine right now, was wondering if is should heat treat it?
I have heard SPP works best when the coils are not touching and I expect with a "certain" spacing between coils. A thought - select a bolt or piece of threaded rod of a certain? length and diameter with a certain? thread spacing, grind flats (3? flats or 4? flats) along the length leaving a small section of threads between each flat to establish coil spacing. OR position a piece of threaded rod as a coil spacing guide very close to the "spinning diameter" of the winding mandrel
I've watched a number of how to make springs videos in the normal course of watching maker/machining vids on YT. Until recently, haven't needed to try; my big box of springs, combined w/ never throwing springs away has served me well. Then I needed to repair a shop vac motor exposed to moisture & age. It needed torsion brush springs wound opposite to every torsion spring I had or could buy of the right gauge wire. About to start manufacturing the type of apparatus I've seen numerous times, this morning, in a few hours, I decided to take another look through YT vids. Am I glad I did. You have saved me several hours of machining & assembly I was about to invest in $0.20 springs. Thanks for sharing your knowledge. GeoD
Hi, I’ve been looking for a method to calculate the spring ‘size, strength’ required to ‘balance’ an articulated arm dependent on the weight it needs to support. Can anyone point me in the right direction?
when I think that back in the 80s we trashed our toys just because we weren't able to replace or make a new replacement spring . hey !! I remember cassettes players door too , when the spring was damaged you had to manually open it
Very admirable! This setup is quiet, light and not power hungry. Perfect for the home shop in the city. I have looked everywhere online to purchase a similar unit but to no avail. The only equipment I have found which comes close is a Carlson sc-1. However these units are manually driven. If you know of any suppliers the info would be greatly appreciated. Love your videos.!!
Thank you for your feedback!! Instead of purchasing an actual lathe, how about if I just get a dividing head and securely attach a drill to the worm gear arbor. @@thespringguy1
Of course , i have a camping solar system that runs this stuff ..2 x 12 dc volt batterys connected in parallel to 2 solar panels and a 2000w inverter for 240volt supply....no mains power needed..
The deep science behind packing is a little bit above my head, but I would hazard a guess that it's the huge surface area for the liquid to interact with the vapour that makes them ideal.
Visitor from Marius Hornberger. Quite a lovely and easy set-up. Just buy a chuck, and a piece of wood to stick it through and a handel, and you can make springs in the garage! :)
Thanks to your excellent tutorials, I was able to make the wire catch and then wind the new torsion spring I needed and I'm quite pleased with how it turned out.🧬
