beautiful song, lovely guitar, that may be Duane all the way through. Saw both bands in about 1971 in Santa Barbara. Actually to me Cowboy outshone the Brothers. Their first two albums are fantastically beautiful and magical. COWBOY!!!! And of course, the Allman Brothers have become one of the greatest bands ever. And I rank Duane number 2 as electric guitarist only behind Jimi Hendrix. My opinion, natch!
I've always loved this tune since I heard it live with Neil Crazy Horse and then Grace and Satriani cover and this version by Warren is steller. Bravo!!!

When I saw this video among the many music videos I had to watch it and find out a little more about “The Illuminated Rose “ Believe me when I say that I was more than impressed! I remember the days when there was only one version of Cortez the Killer. This is a great expansion of Neil Young's epic composition..... but I'm having difficulty without the NY whining vocal. NY was recently compared with Bob Dylan for singing out of tune well the singing here is immaterial - it's all about the guitars but BD was way off pitch in the early days 1960s - both became adjusted vocally in the studio (cf Cher !).....
What a poetic song. It's better when Duane played slide on the original recording. You can hear Duane laugh at the beginning. Perfect name for Diane's daughter's book.

One of my favorite songs from the 2 nights of our 2011 Mule Years Eve package ! Met my brother there and will never forget that trip or my brother. R.ock I.n P.aradise Karl Alan Kendrick (3/13/61-8/27/18). Like Woody and Farmer, Karl lived in Nashville area, and died in late August. He had just returned home from seeing the Mule, Magpie Salute and Blackberry Smoke with me, when he got in a fatal motorcycle accident outside of Nashville in Leiper`s Fork where he lived.. The last song we ever heard together was: "Ain`t Much Left Of Me" and that`s just about how I feel every time I hear it. Just love Matt and his exceptional drumming !!! but to get to see him come out from behind the kit and sing a song was priceless ! 10 years ago tonight and tomorrow were our shows.......YAH MULE ! Mule was our favorite band to see LIVE together. Karl`s favorite number was 13, mine is 7. Our last Mule show together was our 7th Mule show together and my 13th total Mule show.
