They both sound so close to each other that its really hard to tell. One part where the Moog clearly sounds better is the section. You weren't lying when you said gorgeous. It just sounded perfect. I'd still buy Poly-D because the price makes it a no brainer, but as soon as I could I would get minimoog.
one thing i didn't notice playing them (because it was never at the same time), is that moment when resonance is pushed to the max, and you drop the cutoff from top to bottom with the envelope, you can hear the vcf oscillation go way deeper in bass on the 6, than on 60 where it dies out pretty quickly before even reaching the bass range. as for the sound comparison, for all the logical reasons the 6/60 should be "better" the 106 - less noise, brighter, snappier envelopes, shimmering pwm, arpeggio etc. however, Juno 106 has kinda carved out its own niche in past 30 years - its plasticky darker sound, with the wide chorus and artificial low mid and bass boost bump is the cornerstone of many eighties and synth pop tunes and then the whole retro synthwave thing. plus the early nineties rave, dnb, house and techno. its just instant trip back in time the moment you hear it. i prefer the shimmery pwm, snappy arps and stabby chords on 6/60, and dark pads/strings and especially bass and acid bass on the 106. where its darker and compressed sound actually helps..
Someone in the comments told me I was using it incorrectly. If you read through you’ll find d it (I’ve forgotten what they said). FYI I bought this it’s not a ‘review unit’ I’ve bought almost every Behringer you see on the channel - others were loaned to me by viewers.

I’ve been a guitarist and music producer for the last 30 years, and I intend to buy my first synth now. Well, I do have a Korg M1 and a Korg TR61, as well as other sound modules in rack format, but I’d like to go deeper now. One question for those of you who are experienced in this field, please: why would you buy the Take 5 instead of the Deepmind 12 ?
The Take 5 is a 2 osc synth so although it’s only got 5 voices not 12 it’s much more versatile from a sound design perspective. It has FM and sync as well as being able to have intervals so much more to dig into.
Yeah it’s not great. The prophets have it by design, so you. Can easily tune the filter to semitones for organ sounds etc. I wish they had the option to ignore the quantisation, but it is deliberate .

I spent a while thinking g about this, which is why it was released later than most and why it’s not fit as many views as others, but sometimes it’s better to really get to grips with something g this complex before trying to demo it. I struggled with it for ages before it really clicked.
I had one and sold it!! I wanted a real vintage warm sound. The moog one just doesn't have that tone. its almost sounds like a VST :(. the prophet 10 kills it in tone! feature moog one but if you want features get a 3RD WAVE, Polybrute or Quantum. I just don't think the moog one sounds as good as it cost. sold mine got voyager XL and prophet 10 don't have the features but man got the warmth and tone :) I do music not make noise and movies lol
I'm just sticking with my Microkorg, took me years to learn it, I'm not going to take another 4 years to learn another one just to get the same sounds.

They’re completely different approaches. If you’re more into sample based beatmaking then the SP404 but if you’re songwriting is more complex musically then the verselab is probably more versatile (musically speaking).
@StarskyCarr The music I make is a mix of electronic pop, post-punk and industrial. I don't use any guitars, just synth, bass and drums. I would need to be able recording in parts for my bass and keyboard and my songs generally have a few different sections to them.
Well that’s torn it! I have ordered one now - to add to my 1980 MS20 and the two K2 mk1s I already have!! The PMW nearly sold it to me but the Sync and FM cliched it. Damn!!
I'm just entering into the world of real synths, been using plugins for a few years and tweaking presets I'm a guitarist who's REALLY into industrial music. Think early Ministry, Skinny Puppy, Front 242, Youth Code. I'm looking for a dedicated bass instrument and I'm sorta torn between this and the Model D... because I've always wanted a Taurus and I've always wanted a Minimoog.... Anyone have opinions on what they'd pick? I'm trying to get that classic basic synth tone... think NIN - Sin
Excellent presentation of the two models! I can see why an experienced keyboard/synth player would go with the Subsequent 37 but I was impressed by how much the Bass Station 2 can do with its smaller footprint and price. I'm a bassist looking at getting my first synth and the scope of all those sound shaping tools is a bit daunting, so the simpler interface and ample capabilities of the Bass Station 2 make it a good choice for my needs. Oberheim is its own thing, yes, the DM 12 can get close, but it’s just not the same. It’s much fatter sounding the DM 12 was designed as a Juno replication in which tends to be a little thin. Oberheim is the gods of synths..
Greetings, I’m curious if that triangle wave issue was ever resolved? If it’s not a true triangle (and more of a saw) that will cause the weaker bass and buzzier sound problems
Great demo but that first drum hits with high volume on the Song demo was unneccesary I was with the headphones at high volume, fuck my Ears, be careful with that things..
The first few dounds: The attack on her matrix is consistently much too quick compared to the OB....not sure if this is by choice or there is no way to adjust the attack of the "brassy" part of the sound?
It’s probably to do with the envelope shapes. Sometimes it’s just not possible to match - logarithmic or exponential bs linear and everything in between. It surprising how much a difference this makes to the character is a synth. Things like the deepmind have the facility to edit every aspect which seems ridiculous at first. Then you try to match something and it all comes clear!
The people who have issues with Behringer can go and do that thing to themselves and cool down. I don’t get why some people are so “excited” over this brand giving musicians with lots of talent but no money, the opportunity to make music. Imagine how much art and music would come out in centuries from real talent and genius that did not produce or paint because they didn’t have the money or had to work another job because they needed to eat. Behringer is that opportunity for those so stop hating
Thanks for doing this, a helpful companion to the very-good instructions provided. Just did mine, took about half an hour. Top tip for getting the sticker on straight - use some masking tape to mark out temporary alignment lines.
Thanks for the useful tutorial, where a lot of information is compiled in one place. However, I have a question: if it's necessary to create a PWM wavetable from a synthesizer, how can I extract the required individual cycles from the automatically recorded sweep? I assume it’s necessary to calculate the modulation duration or something like that, but I can’t quite grasp how to avoid mistakes and precisely select the needed cycles without duplicating identical ones. For example, if the wavetable consists of 128 steps, manual selection of the cycles doesn’t seem reliable or simple. I have no idea how to automate this process, at least to some degree.
I work out the timing, and try to do the sweep in the correct time. I think at 2048 samples a 128 wave long wavetable worked out around 6 seconds or something. You have to consider the Hz of the tone, is how many loops of the sample that is per second, then divide the wavetable length by that value. For 128 long waves it’s hard! For 2048 it’s 16 times easier :)
I think so although I did decide to get rid of the flu flu in mine just til I realised the original firmware had a problem with filter wave envelope amounts! It’s easier to use without GLIGLI, but if you use it a lot it’s not that hard to remember the menus. I’d buy one with GLIGLI but with an original chip (you can always buy the original so chips on various sites).
Just got the splice bundle with the Model 72,80,82 and 84 and love all of them. Crazy quality. The model 80 is a cpu hog though! Its crazy how much power it uses compared to the other ones
Just stumbled across this vid . Grandmother was my first synth. Regarding the pitch wheel , I was lucky to actually speak to someone at moog . Over a couple of days ( uk time difference ), they told me the type of screwdriver required , plus they sent me through instructions on how to repair it . This was about 18 months ago . Anyhow, because I'm not confident or competent , a good friend of mine who lives local( and has a fair few '80s keyboards) fixed it for me . A couple of weeks later we were in a music shop ,and my friend noticed that the dark version of the grandmother had a slightly different look about it on the pitch wheel. One other thing , the plastic nut of the audio in was found on the carpet. Not lost thankfully, but quality control issues for sure . The cut off filter is a bit noisy . Or is it ? Cheers 😼👍
I bought the original, but I'm not going to buy anymore of their stuff, since it looks like they have no interest in improving their product without selling you a new version of the same thing. I want an upgrade path, sigh
There was a furore when they brought out the play plus. Ben Johnson got so much stick on his channel he gave up doing gear reviews. The company are actually a really nice bunch of people, but sometimes unforeseen perceptions can really have an impact on customers and the company.
wow this video is already 6yrs old and you probably wont read this comment Mr Starsky but as you said, im a Behringer hater as well and i never look at their products. I once bought their 303 clone, used it 1h and sold it. (i have original 303s) i didnt like it at all. Minimoogs are out of reach for 99% of the Human Race ;) so after seeing your (def. cool) video i decided to buy this Behringer Clone. Thanks to YOU !! Great honest video. Big up..
