Hi there. I would like to ask something about this tent. You have it now for a while. I'm planning to buy, because it's the lightest in Hilleberg tents. Theoretically if you use nice solid ground, use all possible guy lines, use some rocks on it all-do you think Enan could manage this wind? I was this year (2024) on South West Coast Path between Minehead and Barnstaple and was one night some big storm and my Big Agnes tent was moving left-right but survived. One buckle snapped, but it's fine to replace. Greetings from Kent. Tom
Yes, I do 👍. Since this camp, I added extra guidelines at the ends and I’ve been through many windy nights with it. On this camp, it did very well and I only took it down about 30 to 45 minutes before I would’ve normally packed it away just because I was worried about damaging my brand new tent, but it survived. It’s a fantastic tent and can handle some pretty rough conditions. Compared to my other Hillberg tents it’s not as bomb proof or as comfortable in the wind (because it only uses a single pole), but it can handle it some very rough weather. hope that helps. Thanks for watching.
@@GoingSoloOutdoors lovely. Thanks for answer. I like comfort, but weight is important for me as well. I do 3-5 days backpacking trips, so trying don't go over 1kg. Roughly...;) Be safe take care! T.
_It's better to watch such things on a screen in the warmth. There is no romance in real tourism, only hardcore and loneliness...for nature you are just a grain of sand.🥭🍵_
I’m not quite sure what you mean by restricted but I don’t usually mention the exact area I’m camping. This also happens to be near the village where we live so just to maintain my privacy I don’t say. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment. ATB
A high-quality poncho would definitely not wet out from the rain like something with a breathable membrane however you’d probably sweat so much that you’d be wet anyways. I also don’t really like ponchos when it’s this windy just because of how much they blow around. The best bet is just to have a dry set of clothes inside a dry bag like I had. That way when you get to camp, you can just change. On a recent Scotland trip I had a second set of clothing that would remain in my dry bag and never be worn outside the tent. And my entire pack was lined with a bin bag. After a long day of hiking in the rain, I always had a dry set of clothing, waiting for me in the tent. Thanks for watching and taking the time to comment.
Looking at these "hiking" conditions.....All I can think of is how satisfying it would be, at the end of a rough outing like this, to make it to the Hotel.....A hot shower and dry clothes.....and a reservation for Steaks and wine at the restaurant......😊😊😊
😂👍 that’s how I feel when I crawl into the tent, get some dry clothing on and make myself a nice meal! Then just listen to the rain and wind. Makes for cozy evening. Really appreciate the comments on the video. ATB
What a wonderful adventure, and a privilege to share it with you. I've often found that being in the middle of nowhere and filming your adventures is a wonderful thing. You're entirely on your own, but the knowledge that you'll be able to share these lonely adventures with an audience at a later date is such a powerful thing, in a way. Stunning! Shame about the midges though 😱. I wouldn't go anywhere near any Scottish outdoor adventures between June and possibly October because of those little b*stards! 🤣. I learned my lesson several years' ago. PS - Moana 😉
👍😀. Capturing these trips can definitely be a bit of extra work, but I’ve really grown to love being able to share it. It’s also fun to relive the trip as a I’m editing the video. The midges were definitely less than ideal and I probably would not normally choose to come at this time of the year however, the opportunity presented itself to go on a multi day trip, which I don’t get the time to do often, so I jumped on the chance. I really enjoy coming to Scotland in late October November and seeing the autumn leaves. Really appreciate the thoughtful comment. Hope you have a nice week.
Im currently without power due to a hurricane, and all I've got is my gas portable stove. This is amazing! I was going to make pizza but my ovens out, I'll try this!
The terrain looks as if there was solid granite that exploded about 100 years ago-shards of rock everywhere, stacked every which way. How could this be natural? Never saw anything like it. So brave to climb that mess!
The terrain here is very interesting. After visiting this spot I actually looked it up. Apparently this spot is a site of thermal fracturing. Caused by freeze thaw weathering. You can find videos of how this works on RU-vid 👍. I would call it brave. You just have to take your time when making your way through it 😀
Very kind of you to say 😀🙏. When I’m out hiking and camping it’s always a good day, despite the conditions. Just great to be out. Really appreciate your continued support 😀.
Things definitely took a turn for the worse on this camp 😅. After this trip I started using Windy.app along with weather underground and mountain forecast. I try to look at as many forecast models as I can 👍
Wow, that was wild. That wind was crazy ! It was really scary to watch, but great video. I really thought you AND the tent were going to just fly off into the night
Thanks! This was one of the more extreme changes in weather that I’ve experienced. At least I was able to have a decent afternoon and evening in the tent before the crazy weather came in 😅. Really appreciate you watching.
Just love your horrible, very wet and windy wild camp videos. To be honest, I have only done it the one time but after seeing this I am now motivated to get back out in that horrible but nice weather...there's something special about wild camping in the rain. Great video, Keep up the good work👍
Thanks. Not ideal weather, but it definitely is quite cozy once you are warm and dry inside the tent. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment. ATB
I sure wish this guy would STOP saying "YEAH" all the fuc*ing time.. it is so damn annoying hearing him saying yeah every other word that comes out if his mouth. STOP saying it dude.
Really great video, just been in the Highlands myself. Not hiking but I will do that in the future. Next time bring "Avon skin so soft" it really works against the midges.
Thanks for the great video!! Love that tent there's so much room. I appreciate your efforts cooking to cacciatore. I met cacciatore one time. I love the gorgeous view as well thanks bro.
Thank you for watching! I have really enjoyed using this tent when camping with my kids. Nice to have both the extra space and the extra vestibule. Really appreciate you taking the time to comment! All the best
Glad you enjoyed it. Scotland’s incredible. My favorite time of the year there is autumn and winter. The leaves are stunning in autumn 👍. Really appreciate you watching.
Thank you so much for sharing your adventure. I had a terrible time camping with the mosquitoes, my whole body itched just looking at them. 😅Amazing more views from the boat. I'm glad to see that everything went well. Looking forward to new videos of your adventures. Greetings 🙌🏻
The midges were definitely a bit of a nuisance, but the views more than made up for it. Just got back from another camp in the mountains. The video should be up next week 👍😀⛰️
Not ideal, but it definitely makes you appreciate the days with great weather. I’ve been camping for 20 years and I still make silly mistakes, even when I know better 😅, but you move on and do better next time 👍. Thanks for watching.
Is this the ‘ranger’ alpacka? That thing looks badass. I was thinking about going with the ‘scout’ just due to the weight. I believe the scout is about 4 pounds. I think the conditions you’re in here are mostly about as bad as I’d ever be in with it. Something to cross a small body of water or go out on a lake with. Also you mention that the paddle you have is huge, I assume it’s around 200 cm or so?
This is the Alpacka Caribou. The conditions on the water were pretty rough at times, but as long as I kept the boat oriented in the right direction, everything was OK. I don’t remember saying the paddles was large but I believe this one is around 210 cm. Which seems just right 👍. I really appreciate you watching and taking the time to comment. Hope you’re having a nice week.
I know this is 100% your content and whatever you want to show, and I know it would add some time and hassle to the vids, and I also know there are other channels more dedicated to this sort of thing, but as a newer backpacker I’d love (and I’m sure a lot of others) to know about some of the gear you choose and why. Maybe showing what brand and gear you carry with you and why you carry it in certain conditions and what not, maybe some survival or navigational skills, or etc. as someone who is a solo hiker wanting to get more into multi day solo adventures across water and whatnot, it’s kind of intimidating to know where to start haha. To feel like I really have the ability to go out 60-100 miles over 3-5 days on my own without feeling vulnerable. With that being said I do learn something every video i watch already! Thanks
Typically, I just share my adventures and don’t focus too much on the gear because I’m personally tired of many people on RU-vid trying to sell me something 😂. But I completely understand where you’re coming from. For sometime now, I’ve been thinking about actually showing how I put together a trip in a video. How I determine which pack, tent, sleep system, cook kit to bring, etc... I don’t know if I’m gonna make that video in the immediate future but at some point I definitely will 👍. Really appreciate you watching my videos and taking the time to comment. All the best.
