it's funny, two yrs later, it's cheaper to get the plate commercially than to make it. rn, gelatin is ~$15, glycerin is ~$14 and a baking sheet is about $8. an 8 x 10 gelli plate is $25 on Amazon rt. makes me so sad.

Hello, may I inquire whether you are utilizing a commercial gel plate or a homemade one for this demonstration? I recently purchased a commercial gel plate, but it proved to be quite expensive. Consequently, I am contemplating creating my own gel plates. I happened to come across your tutorial on crafting a gel plate, which was quite informative. I am curious to know how the results of prints differ between a homemade gel plate and a commercial one. Specifically, can a homemade gel plate successfully transfer magazine prints, laser prints, drawings, charcoal, chalk pastels, and other mediums? Additionally, I am interested in knowing if alternative mediums, aside from acrylic, can be used with a homemade gel plate.

This video is with a homemade gel plate. I have only ever used acrylic paint on that one. It was really quite sturdy though. Maybe a little experimentation is in order

I've never noticed a smell really. Once they are made I'm not sure how you would remove it. Maybe next time you make them add a drop or 2 of essential oil....
