Thank you for this. I use gel plates.all the time but was looking for a larger one. This is ideal, I can now make one to fit my 305mm by 210mm sheets. Thank you again. This is soooooo needed as they are quite expensive for the extra large ones. Keep smiling 😊🌻
Way back when I started teaching (when ink gestetners were the only copying choice available) we used to make work stencils for a gelly plate and print them page by page into their books.
I could hardly hear what you were saying, even with my sound turned up....could you give detailed instructions as well as the ingredients please, that would help...thanks
It's really quite durable. I used the plates frequently (almost everyday)over the summer without issue. I stored them on small cookie sheets with the pans they were made in over them. Over the winter (I didn't really use them) one did get a little dry around the edges. I think it was because of lack of use and a dry winter house.
I bought a baking sheet that was a bit bigger than the plate and store/left it on there. When I'm not using it I cover it with parchment paper. It can dry out over time but I found if you use it often it's less likely to happen
I did make two gel plates. I used Knox gelatin but they have an odor from the knox. Any recommendations? By they way these plate work really well. Thank you for sharing.
I've never noticed a smell really. Once they are made I'm not sure how you would remove it. Maybe next time you make them add a drop or 2 of essential oil....
Okay, if no one else is telling you...it's the glycerin that you're starting with and then adding the gelatin to it. You keep saying 🙄 you're pouring the gelatin into the pan then adding the gelatin, lol. I think we get it though so thanks 😊
No- gelatin isn’t vegan. The vegan version is made with Agar agar. I have yet to make an Agar plate- and I am vegan. Thru some research- the measurements are the same using Agar agar.
it's funny, two yrs later, it's cheaper to get the plate commercially than to make it. rn, gelatin is ~$15, glycerin is ~$14 and a baking sheet is about $8. an 8 x 10 gelli plate is $25 on Amazon rt. makes me so sad.
Hi! I buy the gelatin in a box of 4 packets. The net wt of the box is 28 grams. 1/2 cup of hot water is 118 grams. So a little mathing, 7 grams each packet, 354 grams of water. 😁.
