The Album of Record is a music podcast by Craig Lyndall and Andrew Schnitkey. We talk about music through the lens of 90s rock fans who never stopped listening to new music. We will go down memory lane and talk about the newest alternative, indie, emo, rock etc, but always through the eyes of very young Gen X or very old Millennials.
Thanks for the Rotal Headache recommendation. Never heard of them before but really enjoying the record. One you left off in my opinion is the Last Waltz! Not sure how far your music tastes go but I recommend Sarah Vaughn Live at Mister Kelly's and Sam Cooke Live at the Harlem Square Club.
I had the awesome Aiwa skip proof cd player. Still own it. Still works. Used it running long distance during my youth and during cross country since i did not relate to any of the weirdos on my team. I founf most cross country runners were oddballs. I started doing it only since i had adhd and endless energy. Then ended up being good at it. Still to this day, run 30-50 miles per week.
1. Dookie 2. Jar of Flies 3. NIN 4. TLC 5. Superunknown Honorable mentions: Megadeth STP Live Bush Offspring Some other descent stuff this year but nothing deemed as game changers. Or big hits. I was in 4th grade this year. Everyone all bought/got the Dookie cd. Also got TLC but i was the only one. I knew it was something different even at that age. Yes this is subjective, but i dont know anyone who likes vitalogy over VS or 10. So for it to have been a hypothetical #1 seems quite odd considering the monster albums this year. 10 doesn't even come in at #1 in 1991 against Nevermind. Lastly, including mtv unplugged is just weird. Songs that are already done on albums but live? No thanks.
Excellent taste! The name Roxette was taken from the song of the same name by English band Dr. Feelgood. Also, Per isn't actually 'reforming' Roxette. He wanted to still be able to go out and play the songs as they were meant to be played, so he's got most of the original band members back and invited a well known Swedish singer, who he's known since the 80s, to sing Marie's parts. She's definitely not replacing Marie though and they won't be recording new Roxette stuff together. He did release an album not too long ago under the name PG Roxette which used two of their long time backing singers as the female leads, but I wouldn't call it a 'Roxette' album.
This is an issue across the board, outside of very mainstream pop. I've been to about 150 shows over the course of my short lifetime, but I've completely put the brakes on nearly all concerts the last few years that exceed 250 capacity. Those small shows tend to at least be TicketWeb gigs that I can walk in for about $35 TOTAL. I'm done with the arenas and amphitheaters that want $75 for the lawn or $150 for the upper bowl + outrageous fees + parking. I'm just done. There is no justifying it anymore. I don't care who it is. At this point, I'm perfectly content to sit back and remember what once was.
Good for you. I'm mostly with you. I still get sucked into an expensive show here and there, or I'll pony up multiple hundreds for a festival, but there you're getting tons of acts over multiple days. Just a totally different thing.
I really like the electro/krautrock vibe on the first track, I hope they keep going that way with future releases. And yeah Dylan's voice gets better and better going from his own voice to Milo Aukerman to Dez Cadena's time fronting Black Flag when he does the heavy growl
Longtime PJ fan, from the very beginning, but started to lose interest after Binaural. Dark Matter has pulled me back in, their best album since the 1990s, in the conversation for Top 3 overall.
I've done this same thing with this album years ago. Another thing I've done was going through Pearl Jam's b-sides/lost dogs and slotted them into the appropriate studio albums. Give it a try. I'd watch that.
I think the following deserves mention Bon Jovi, Green Day, Van Halen, Dave Mathews Band. And from way back maybe The Doors, Jimmy Hendrix, Santana, Jefferson Airplane, CCR and Eagles
Longevity, strong albums to this day, filling arenas around the world still, never went cheesy pop (Aerosmith), were the biggest act in the world from 93-95, one of the best bands ever live, setlists from a major act not close to comparable to anybody else. etc. etc. etc.
It's a shame Axl Rose ruin guns n' roses single-handedly by taking over the group like he did. You guys say you are guns n' roses fans? Check up on what they're doing now doing now and what the members of guns n' roses are doing now by clicking on them links that I just sent you. Slash is killing it! Axl Rose what a waste
One more live version of Slash's new band which isn't even new anymore... they have like 7 albums now I think? And by the way go listen to Axl Rose now he is absolutely horrible he sounds like a crippled old man singing
Have you guys checked out what Slash has going on now? Axl Rose is washed up! Slash has teamed up with Myles Kennedy from Altered Bridge and some other people they have taken things to the next level and you can truly see who the problem was...Axl Rose is a true douchebag!! Myles Kennedy is so much better than Axl Rose and you can see how much happier now than back in the day!!
I agree with most of what you said. I think Aerosmith belongs much higher. They had multiple peaks, huge songs, longevity, recognizable members and a unique sound. Top 3 for me. Pearl Jam is number 1 for sure.
Certainly a defensible take. Aerosmith had to be in the conversation. You hate to ask the question but what happens if they retire right after Big Ones comes out?
@@AlbumOfRecord They would still have 20 years under their belt and the instantly recognizable sound with all members intact from the start. Not too much came after that anyway aside from a soundtrack hit...and Honkin on Bobo!
I know I keep commenting but things are coming to me as I listen. Absolutely Won't Tell sounds like The Cure - Pictures of You. That's probably why I love it so much. Also someone else pointed out elsewhere that the intro to Upper Hand is like Born Slippy. Play them over each other and see
So I have given this album a few days rest because I don't want to over listen to it. Come back to it today and it's grown on me even more. Tracks that I wasn't particularly loving such as Upper Hand and Got to Give now sound better. The album is just ridiculously good and that song Wreckage man is just mind blowing. An absolute masterpiece and I would even go as far as saying it could be the best song they've ever done. From start to finish it's mesmerising.
The more you listen to it the better it gets… every day I wake up with a tune stuck in my head, and each day it’s a different track! Best band for me always..
