I'm using this to adapt a pattern that has me casting off 15 stitches for the thumb and casting back on 15 stitches to continue the pattern I have ripped it back several times and can't get it to look nice, if I tried this would I still knit 15 with the waste yarn, because it seems like that would give 30 stitches for the thumb so would I knit 8 onto waste yarn giving me 16 for the thumb which I can cast one off later
If I'm understanding correctly, you would knit 15 stitches with the waste yarn. Please check the thumb instructions for your pattern to see if there are indeed 30 stitches for the thumb. HTH
This was truly an eye-opener!!! I struggled so hard with my first mitten and this would have made it so much easier. Thank you for going slow, and explaining each step and why you did it! ❤
Thank you for showing how to use the waste yarn to hold the thumb stitches. i like that you knitted with the waste yarn and then moved the stitches from the waste yarn and knitted them again with the mitten yarn. So easy and straight forward. 🙂 You are awesome!
At 10:14 I show how I pick up stitches from the sides of the afterthought section. It's easier for me to pick them up at the end of the needle as opposed to the beginning. You could also kfb, but I find that it leaves a bit of a hole if you do it on the pick up row. HTH
