Hi, my name is Reed and this is my channel Smart Home Solver. I help you find the best smart home tech: smart security cameras, lights, thermostats, locks, and more.
I have loved adding smart home devices around my house and want to show others how easy and simple it can be.

Love to know the background on this dude. Like electrical engineer? Self-taught? What's his job? Nothing specific, just general stuff about him, he's inspiring.
Fifteen years ago we had an elderly neighbor who rang our doorbell. We found out she had dementia and wanted to say hello to our family. We talked and her family agreed that she could leave one small can of soda. Our children said thank you to her. My children made artwork in school and gave some to her. She became our neighbor grandma until she passed.
🤯 With Harmony remotes having been discontinued with nobody else worthy to backfill the space, there is definitely a niche market for his remote! I know I would absolutely buy one!
Yea I read some reviews that were similar to your problems before I bought this. My strategy was to limit the use of the door. Even with all the custom routines to limit them from just using the door to look outside (and not exit) the door has opened almost 9000 times over 6 months (I built in a counter). If I didn’t have that it would surely be at 20-40k. So I think most of it is just wear and tear on the door. Thanks for watching!
Wait, dog, "I want to go outside and use the bathroom". Door "too bad, it's raining outside. You'll have to use the bathroom here." Animations like this are sure to create unforeseen (or perhaps foreseen) consequences. Also, since it's Texas, doggie likely to bring in rabbits and squirrels for show and tell.
Haha, I thought of that… if the rain sensor locks the door out, me and my wife get notifications on our phones. Then a timer starts, after 3 hours (and the door hasn’t opened) all the echo dots in the house say “Attention, it has been three hours since the dogs have been outside”, it’s our reminder to do supervised potty time. The announcement is disabled at night so we are not woken up. No accidents or dead rabbits so far 🤞. Thanks for watching!
Pretty good ideas in here.. definitely give him props for building this custom but take a look at automation systems like URC or crestron they might be able to save him tons of time as they can do this with a bit of programming but mostly out of the box
I’ve just discovered your channel, and I appreciate the great reviews! I am looking for a simple but reliable motion sensor that can send a notification to my iPhone when someone enters of our shop. I’m thinking of something like the old-school sensors that made a gong sound, but instead of a gong, it would send a notification to my phone. Could you please recommend a couple of good options? This request is probably quite straightforward compared to your highly innovative solutions. Many greetings from Germany!
Did you talk about energy consumption? How much does the house use per year? Can he maybe even save energy with clever automation? Assuming a guy like him having solar, how much of his consumption can he self-produce?
Unfolded Circle will be doing a kickstarter for their Remote 3 - why do I mention that? It integrates into Home Assistant and can be a big part of some home automation too. And, you know - the home theater.
My momma has this camera. Im glad im this only 20 bc me and my friend plan to use this for a music video soon bc of the night vision effect. Thaks for the info
