It's actually a good thing that all of the Android sensors are off by default. When I first found that list, I hit the Enable All button. Later that month, i notice that Home Assistant had used the better part of a gigabyte of mobile data just keeping those sensors updated. Not so much of an issue if you have unlitmited data, which I don't, but it could also affect your battery life.

That’s a good point!
@WarpedFlayme

It will also increase the size of your Home Assistant database since it's storing the history of all of those sensors which will increase the size of backups...

@@WarpedFlayme don't forget much bigger power consumption, which I find as a bigger issue 😅

My favorite is Home Assistant controls in Android Quick Settings. I have some key switches there so they are a quick swipe to access from anywhere on my phone.

I was pretty surprised when I found out about Samsung's "modes and routines" that let's you take full control over your phone via routines. Triggers can be: being connected to a WiFi network, time, certain message received.. So I made it that my smart home would send a notification to my phone and this would trigger a routine that adjusts phone settings. For example when I go to bed my smart home tells my phone and it will mute ringtone and turn on flight mode after a few minutes. Or when I leave the house it will turn on Bluetooth and much more
@cooliipie
@cooliipie 8 месяцев назад
One of my favorite things about Samsung is the integration with routines. Especially when it comes to zigbee and Z-Wave with the hub. iPhone is cool but it doesn't go beyond Wi-Fi devices which bog down the network..
@gabiruman
@gabiruman 7 месяцев назад
True, I also use Samsung routines, I don't use it more because it can only integrate with Smart Home devices if you're using SmartThings. I use the Tuya ecossystem in my house so all the triggers need to be done from the Tuya or Alexa app.

Nop, Android does have sound detection in the accessibility tab. It does only send you notifications but with an app called macrodroid you can run some actions (including api calls for home assistant)
@DIYtechie
@DIYtechie 8 месяцев назад
I’ve also enjoyed playing around with oPS Shortcuts. My experience with sound detection, however, is that it is highly unreliable. To the point that it is mlstly useless, even with simple things like smoke alarms.

On Android 14, home assistant can display any dashboard instead of using the built in toggles on your lockscreen.

Oh wow I missed that but I just tried it out and it works great. Especially going to a dashboard favorites. Here's how to do it if anyone is interested companion.home-assistant.io/docs/integrations/android-device-controls/#use-a-dashboard-instead-of-built-in-controls

Phones are really good tools for smart homes because of apps.A lot of smart home companys have a app. And the shortcut app also is really good for smart homes.

Oh sorry I forgot to link to that. StandBy Mode Pro iOS Always On. In the settings you can have it turn on only when charging on the side and turn off when removed from the charger so it works pretty much the same as iOS.

What’s the shortcut you use on your Apple Watch for different voice assistant ?
@SmartHomeSolver
@SmartHomeSolver 7 месяцев назад
It’s one created by Home Assistant but you could do the same thing with others. The steps on how to add it are linked in the description. Basically it starts a “dictation” so you can speak to it and then takes that voice to text and sends it to Home Assistant. You could do the same with Google Assistant though. I’ve tried that and it works well.

You can set your Android phone to use home assistant's voice assistant when the power button is held. No need to hold down a microphone button and can do it from the lock screen.
@SmartHomeSolver
@SmartHomeSolver 7 месяцев назад
Yes, I set it to use the Home Assistant voice assistant when the power button is held. But it defaults to the keyboard so I have to hit the mic button to use my voice. I checked all the settings that I could find and searched and searched but I’m still not sure why it’s defaulting to that. Other people online seemed to have a similar issue that couldn’t be resolved.

@@SmartHomeSolver What phone are you using? I'm using a Google Pixel 6 pro. I did the following: 1. Set Home assistant as the default digital assistant app 2. For the press and hold power button gesture set it to launch the digital assistant When all is that is done I am able to do this: ru-vid.comoML-oQqpjtA?si=hACNYmmQQZiJ4Lir
