I'm Chickasaw and we were a matriarchal society. All the south eastern woodland tribes were. The clan mothers chose the male minkos, but the minkos only had the authority that came with their wisdom, ability to lead. There were peace Minkos and war minkos. It was much more egalitarian as they way forward would be disgust and agreed upon by many. Our women fought as well, with false stories of the singing hatchet women sending the French fleeing. But, there were / differences in worship, it the women that are the shell shakers, men lead the singing. Only men played Stick Ball, the Little Brother of War. But your clan came from the women and dictated who you were and who you could marry. In my opinion, a much more beautiful and richer way of organizing a society.
Christians follow the old testment. But Christ abolish the old laws and implemented the new ones. That was why He was persecuted by some sects of jews (who follow the torah/old testement).

I've never understood why the new age and spiritual communities claim that patriarchy is evil but matriarchy is good and natural. That's 100 percent illogical. Men built everything in civilization and invented all technologies. If men built everything then they deserve to lead society, just like if Bill Gates created Microsoft then he has the right to be CEO and leader of it. Basic logic and common sense. Why don't people in the new age and spiritual community get that? Moreover, there's never been a great female leader in history, or almost never. Women are meant by nature to be nurturers, not leaders or conquerors. It's obvious. Why is it taboo to point that out?
I’m 52 female and my Mother was a housewife. I’ve always wondered how women got off from work and did all the cooking, cleaning after work. Most women worked when I was growing up. My Mother eventually got a divorce. She had 8 kids. But, why should the burden be all on the woman? She might as well stay single/childless if she wants to relax after work a bit.
Fantastic! The one person who talks about this in a way that doesn't alienate half the population. But I have to ask. You implied a patriarchal society is one where men have a position of power somewhere, suggesting that men in power should not exist anywhere at least with the context that patriarchy is something that should be addressed. I suppose you touched on this when discussing the caste system by arguing that a patriarchy would still be apparent if men who had no positions of power or influence but could exercise it at home in some capacity. Would a society still be a patriarchy if it existed nowhere except, say, in the family home? The part that I'm confused by is the inferrence that men in power is a problem at any and every stage. So say, if a company had women at every executive level except for the CEO, and this is the one company that did this in the whole world, would it be a problem and a sign that this is a patriarchal system at play, or could it be agreed that this male CEO was the better candidate for the role and leave it at that? Why this confuses me is that, whilst ever men account for half the population, there will always be examples of some men existing with some level of authority. This isn't a quip at men's behavioural tendency to dominate and control, but rather that some men will find themselves in political, managerial, or executive positions alongside women where they may be the better candidate, just as there would be women who would be in other companies or governments, and to deny men that purely to rescind the patriarchy is as oppressive as peventing women from doing the same. Does that not mean that the act of removing the patriarchy is not just to uplift women, but to ensure they are the ones in control? If any man, in any position above that of women, is patriarchy, then no man can have his own autonomy or role that could go beyond that of a floor sweeper. What would be the ideal version of society where the patriarchy is no longer a facet of our culture? How would it be described?
We got to the top because we all realized in every civilization that no person should be on top if they are as unaccountable, irrational, narcissistic, vengeful, malicious, vindictive, non critical thinking, emotion based, evil, as 99% of the other side always has been. It makes me sad to see women who have discovered Feminism, but still haven’t found their way out of the church. You don’t have to be a Christian at all (or Muslim, Mormon, religious Jew, etc.) All of those stories were written by men (maybe even women? LOL). The stories aren’t true. You can leave whatever religion your parents or society indoctrinated you to believe and learn the far more exciting spirituality that’s available to us now. You can’t even begin to imagine how boring (and unbelievable) the Bible is, compared to a book like “Journey of Souls” by Michael Newton Ph.D. I would love to see more women (ALL women) deconverting from the old religions that are full of misogyny and violence and moving into more modern spiritual teachings or even atheism. Basically, anything is better than THAT craziness that has persecuted and harmed us for over two thousand years. (Well, not *anything*. Do be aware that cults also exist in the New Age movement. Stay away from any group that has a charismatic leader. Definitely don’t join Scientology, but that’s an obvious one.)

HOT TAKE: I feel like women were right about the temperance movement and it needs a comeback. Alcohol is still a major societal issue and is highly tied to most DV and other crimes against primarily women. We need to just stop socially accepting the issues of alcoholism. We can start with limiting alcohol advertising more and putting warning labels on alcohol containers like the warnings on cigarette packs.
Great video, great overview. All I would add is a little more awareness of the impact of the Civil War. As necessary as it was to end slavery, the way it played out just sapped the country's ability to take on any additional progressive causes for 20 years, and then they all had to start nearly from scratch. If it makes folks feel any better, there is some indication that we're getting better. It was only 46 years from Stonewall and the birth of the LGBT+ movement to the ruling in Obergefell establishing marriage equality. Historically speaking, that is really fast.
There's not a patriarchy or matriarchy - it's always the same structure with a small portion of men at the top, then all the women and then all the general populace of men at the bottom. Just look at the dating data where women are organising themselves into harems with the top 10% of men - women put those high performing/value at the top...then treat the rest of the males like they don't exist.

I love your message. I was bought up in a catholic family and always felt a closeness to Jesus. However the misogyny of Christian men turn me off religion all together. I’m happy to have Jesus in my life but I made the decision not not follow catholism.
One correction. The council of Nicaea did not convene to establish the books of the Bible. Rather they were there to consider certain Heresies. The First Council of Nicaea, was specifically called to make a decision about Arianism.

Behaviour is an adaptation to environment, as our environment changes our behaviour changes. Matriarchal societies would have been adaptations to environment and patriarchies are an adaptation to environment too
Links to sources would be helpful. Mostly we have stories about stories. DNA will be important but independent verification of research will be a long time coming, AI enabled or not. Finding DNA building reward systems for aggression, violence, or restraint and separating the nature from the nurture impacts will be close to impossible. Does it really matter what the past is? What can we do today to make today good and tomorrow better? As for change over time…isn’t anyone considering that the knowledge of self-control of fertility by women has created our current time and moment but can we assume other healthy ways were not known in the past to give regular women control over when and how many children she would bear? Repressing that knowledge would trap women into endless childbearing cycles with all the social, biological and economical consequences that creates.
Quit acting like the victim, either you’re able to or you’re not. If a political opponent says that person can’t is because that’s politics. Women like to say all these ceilings r out in them when I can very clearly see them in position of power.
