Seeing WTC twin towers still makes my breath catch. Is interesting seeing the early days of modernizing LE. Spund of the accent, the cars, amd even the sound of the sirens is flashback to my childhood. No i didnt live in the city but living in another city in ny we always knew ppl from downstate and any movie or tv show based in NYC when i was a kid left me marveling at my downstate brethren. I dont marvel at them any more. I used to enjoy trips to the city but dont any more......
This was my favorite crown Victoria and why they only made it for a few years I think it handled better than the bigger crown vics it had more speed and way better for fit maneuvers
The lightbar was so bulky the CHP lost 2MPG . 00:44 As you can see Federal messed up by not putting any lamp between the speaker and rear passenger side. They could have used the 50/50 mirrors here for best signaling in the rear.
It's got a cop motor, a 440 cubic inch plant, it's got cop tires, cop suspensions, cop shocks. It's a model made before catalytic converters so it'll run good on regular gas.
Say what you want about the USPS, but our Grumman LLV’s were just coming on line service then and will be in many places for several years to come. I love asking the new hires: “How old are you?” “I just turned 23.” “Well the truck you’re driving today is 10 years older than you.”
@@RoadCone411 Well, you could get options which made them more luxurious. I know my neighbors was pretty nice inside. My father almost bought it from him.
I drove both for those years and both were junk! The ford's did hold up better but I would take today's explorer. Way way way more comfortable for 12 hrs shifts and they don't over heat.
@25yrsotj no way I drove them for 20 yrs and the seats did not have the technology for a 8 to 12 hr shift! I had 3 back surgeries because of those seats
@@afcgeo882 It's also the reason why I mistook them for Fire Vehicles instead of Police Vehicles when I first visited NYC 20 Years ago, when I am from all of our Police Vehicles are Blue/White Lights including the Unmarked Vehicles too.
@@DreadWing7777 Yes. All emergency vehicles in NY are required to use red lights. Blues are for volly fire and green for volly ambulance, but those lights aren’t emergency and you’re not required to pull over for them.
This video was taken 28 years ago. I have no control over what was filmed. However, if you pause at the right time, you can see the interior clearly showing the smart siren controller
Because this was an unmarked highway car that got marked up. If you look closely you can see there's a regular smart siren controller instead of a vision controller.
You're right about it being horrendous. Considering the capability of vinyl wrap, they could go back to grabber blue scheme or something similar. I think solid white police cars are just too nondescript. It's the NYPD and they should really differentiate themselves.
@@The718Motorpool Bratton later on went to become the Los Angeles Police Chief. He was having difficulty with the Beretta 92F during range qualification and authorized the Glock pistol. Even though he was anti gun, he brought improvements to patrol.
@@The718Motorpool Grew up in NYC. I heard ambulance sirens 24/7. NYC EMS went from the breadbox type ambulances which had mechanical sirens, to the very few bread boxes with electronic sirens. Then they went to type 1 ambulances, which they stayed with. The siren you displayed couldn’t have been in widespread use. I never heard it. EMS in the 70s got very little funding, very few new ambulances. The next widespread siren from the mechanical ones were the 2 tone hi-lo/yelp ones that became the standard before they went to a code 3 siren. I also worked for them for a year.
Your videos bring back memories of the lightbars and sirens I used to have. While driving a Nyc Transit Authority suburban I used to visit that Nyc vehicle aution on what I think was Kent ave in Brooklyn in the early 90's and purchased 4 of those Nypd Aerotwinsonics and 4 red Federal Signal Teardrop Fireballs. I still have 2 of those Fireballs. Regarding your Aerotwinsonic's flashers not working,I think the flasher is the model Wagner #537 Alternating flasher. I just subscribed.
So I never did an update of this bar but it was the 537 flasher and has since been replaced. This bar has since been restored, and I will be making a video on it in the near future.
