📚 PhD candidate in Anthropology 🐈⬛ Janaki and her clairvoyant cat Madame Bathsheba investigate tarot practice in the US & India 🔮 Link to book a reading: snipfeed.co/cat_o_mancy
The Meliora edition did include some oracle cards, which I was so stoked about...except every card has the word "oracle" on it! "Herbal Medicine Oracle," "Energy Vampire Oracle"...the titles break my heart
I was sent here by a friend because I've been really exploring hopepunk in my practice, and not shutting up about it. So he was like: I have a video for you!!! I love your decks, they are not my style, but I absolutely feel why they are hopepunk to you. Keep holding on to that hope, you will find your way <3
There is another, earlier counterpoint to grimdark called noblebright. My understanding is noblebright assumes the goodness of humanity and that in the struggle the forces of good triumph because they are good. In hopepunk the inherent goodness isn’t assumed so the universe is more neutral, but the resistance to perceived injustice is positive and the changes that are being fought for are positive/for the highest good.
That is correct. To bring it back to Tolkien, Aragorn would be Noblebright. Embracing your destiny as fighting for the highest good, a direct assault against the darkest evil. And in Noblebright good will triumph because evil never wins. In contrast against it Hopepunk says that maybe the world will not become good. Even if evil is defeated, the world can still be a dark place. Sauron is defeated, but the world is not magically better. Hopepunk often looks smaller. Like Janaki said, Sam planning for the journey home. Community. Coming together in ways that are less huge and bright, but softer, hopeful. Refusing to believe that the world will end, we will make it home.
Hope you can find a job that your heart desires. Are you planning on going to the yearly MLA job-hunting conventions? You would make a great anthropologist or cultural studies professor. And as always, enjoyed your deck presentation.
Sending you lots of hope and positive vibes for an amazing job to fall into place! And I love that you are manifesting with that lovely necklace. Who makes it? Can you share the shop link? Thanks for making this fun video to share with us, and for you shop update of lush bags!
I’ve never heard of “hopepunk” but absolutely expect my local bookshop to now set up a hopepunk display 😂 I hope things work out for you in your job search.
I’d never heard of “hope punk!” I think (haven’t quite finished it yet) I’m currently reading a book that falls into that category. It’s called Station Eleven by Emily St. John Mandel. Just found out there’s a tv show adaptation of it as well. Totally into this concept now. Thanks so much for sharing. Wishing you all the best for your job search! 😊❤
“Pandora with her newest unboxing” 😂😂😂❤ You pick the best pairings! I pair the MotherWitch with the Black Lilly or the Solara Occulto. Their energies mesh well.
Omg yay I love your basket videos!! And I love that you chose hopepunk for this one!!! I’m obsessed with that subgenre atm. (And I have a lot of ranty opinions about grimdark lol but this is not the video for that). The Goblin Emperor’s audiobook is one of my absolute faaaaaaaaves 😭❤️ I’m sorry things have been hard at the moment for you 😢 Academia is such a difficult world. I hope it improves soon. ❤🫂
@@catomancytarot Have you read any Lois McMaster Bujold? I love her, she’s one of my favorite authors at the moment. ❤️ I started with Penric and the Demon, which is the first in a series of novellas and they will fix your heart instantly. Every time I start a Penric novella my heart is immediately overwhelmed with joy 🥰 Pen’s main character trait is being a genuinely GOOD person and I love him so much. ❤️ My favorite Bujold is The Curse of Chalion (for which I also highly recommend the audiobook), but I’ve heard some people say it’s too slow so even though I love it, I hesitate to recommend it as an entry point. Also I have a hard time recommending one over the other because even if The Curse of Chalion is technically my favorite (I’ve already listened to it twice), Pen is one of my favorite people in the world even if he’s fictional, and everyone deserves to know him lol 🥹
I decided against going for a PhD because I was so afraid of my prospects for finding a job in the same places my husband could find a job. Best of luck to you on your career!
I loved how you structured this!!! (And I love the perspective of top 10 rather than only 10). I also have a very clear number 1 🤓 (and wasn't surprised at your choice of the Spolia haha!) I agree it would be cool for creators doing anniversary editions 😝 Also, definitely keep talking about your oop decks!
An hour of tarot deck goodness....love it. I dont mind watching about oop decks, this is your top favs. I just love watching videos about others discussing decks they truly enjoy working with..I can also go on and on about tarot and oracle, lol. Also, much love to the Madame, miss. cutie pie.
I love your collections Im obsessed with the Spoila it is so beautiful but so sad is not available. Can you tell me the name of the huge and beautoful tarot you use for your altar work! Is amazing but I didnt catch the name correctly. Pleaseee :)
This was super fun. I was surprised not to see Manzel's tarot in the mix. Maybe it made the honorable mentions. Also, did you see he launched a new deck? So pretty.
Many decks that I've never seen before, so this was fun. I LOVE your Madame Bathsheba!! She adds something special to the video, and it was so sweet to see her fur in the video as she walked by and blessed us with her presence. More of her please.
I love that you said, “I try not to be too precious with it” when speaking of the Spolia Tarot. The Spolia Tarot is also my favorite deck and would be a no brainer if I had to save only one deck. Great video. I’ll be doing a hashtag of this video. Thanks for sharing. 😊
