This guy was a great player, nearly Hall of Fame caliber, with over 2700 career hits over 22 years in the Majors. And he was a reasonably good fielder at 1st base. Yet his entire career is almost forgotten because of one error. I've heard that he never really recovered, mentally, from the fallout after this play. It's kind of the reverse of Bill Mazeroski, a good ballplayer who is in the Hall of Fame because of a single home run. RIP Billy Bucks! We loved you in L.A., and you brought us Rick Monday in trade. You'll never be forgotten by me.
It sucks when I get yelled at by my team for missing catching the ball in kickball during pe, can’t even imagine what this would feel like (btw im a high school senior, sounded like I was in like elementary school lol)
I love this for the Mets....but I absolutely hate it for Bill Buckner. His mind went to some truly dark places after that Game was over, and he was back home by himself. Imagine the feeling of literally letting down an entire City,,,.Fans literally calling for your head. Your dismissal. Basically, your complete and utter exile...A simple mistake, but at the costliest point of the Sport, Buckner graciously took YEARS of fan anger and public mockery...Before once more being embraced by Red Sox fans again after their 2004 World Series victory. He's a much better man than me. I would have...well, the EXTENT of what all I'd do is beyond what RU-vid will let me speak on. RIP, Mr. Buckner. You're finally at peace. Like ANY ONE of those Red Sox fans could have done any damn better on such a large and important stage...The Sox fans actions probably took literal YEARS off of his life dealing with their BS day in and day out, every day since that horrible error. My thoughts are with his Family, even close to 5 years later. ❤
What I REALLY want to know is......Did the Mets give Buckner an honorary ring??!!!!😂😂😂

I've watched this clip a million times, hoping just once he caught it. Breaks my heart each time. True baseball fans with knowledge know the pitching blew this game, not Billy. I'd take him anytime on my team.
Here after watching Curb Your Enthusiasm. Just graduated from high school when he made that error. I forgot all about it, he was a good sport for playing himself on CYE.
It’s been more than 37 years now. And the Red Sox have won FOUR championships since this game. But this one should have been the one that broke the “Curse”
I think there's something to be said for the Red Sox since this happened, that since the turn of the century, and dawn of a new millennium, they won 4 WS in 15 seasons, 2004-2018, while the Mets are the Chicago Bears ("1985")of MLB, always stuck on 1986.
The Mets were a scary team after game 6, because if they couldn't lose game 6 , they weren't going to lose the world series, it was their year. Much respect for Bill, he took his eye off the ball for a split second, but much credit to Mookie for not giving up on the play and running as fast as he could.
This series was absolutely dreadful if you’re a Sox fan. I can only imagine how I’d feel if my team was up 2 runs in the 9th w 2 outs. Almost seems certain it will end. It’s moments like this that make u fall in luv w the game!
I had to look for this because I got thinking about my dad and how we watched this game back in 86 and I just been thinking about my dad and some of my best memories with him. I get really emotional when i think about it and watching this world series and I've been crying thinking about him. I would give anything to go back and relive these days and watch this world series with him again. I love you Dad and I miss you so much
