Staying up late on a school night with my dad. Jumping up and down with him after the final pitch. One of the best memories with you, Pop. Love you. RIP
Same here... these bring back awesome memories of watching the Mets with my dad! A day before he died in NYC, he was asking who pitched for the Mets the day before...He loved baseball and the Mets!
I saw this happen live when I was 14 years old...I wouldn't trade this memory for anything..definitely one of the most exciting and uplifting things I've ever witnessed...
Jennifer Loizzo , omg , I was 14 also in 1986. I actually fell asleep during game 6 cause I was so upset, thought they were gonna lose. My brother woke me up frantically when they came back to win. Made sure I never did that again!
I have seen the Yankees, New York's best baseball team do this 8 times in my lifetime......and congrats to this Met team....its a shame they couldnt win more with that group.
This feeling still resonates with me . I was 10 yrs old living in QNS right next to SHEA STADIUM, I could see the lights off the clouds or a clear sky. The best feeling as a kid to see your beloved team from your backyard win the WORLD SERIES. RIP GARY CARTER. My favorite player #8
Was watching this with my parents and 2 brothers in my parents bedroom (they had the larger TV in there) and when Orosco struck him out we jumped and the entire bed collapsed and broke. What a great memory
Keep in mind how long he had to wait for that. He was on some very bad Met teams. He was on the Mets when they were a joke of a dead horse. He was on the team when they were champs. How that team only won one world series is beyond me. Imagine if they had the wild card then. The Mets be would have been in the playoffs every year up to 92.
84-88 a GREAT team. 90, 98, 108, 92, 100 wins over those 5 seasons. Pain in ass Cardinals team prevented 4 straight division titles. in current format a playoff team all 5 years.
I'm a Red Sox fan who was born during the second inning of Game 1. So I was immediately anointed a Sox fan after entering the world on the night of 10/18/86. But that being said, I must say this: After watching the WHOLE series, not just Games 6 and 7, the Mets were definitely the better team and better managed. The Sox were a good team but very poorly managed. I was brainwashed by my family into thinking Buckner was solely to blame for the loss. With age comes wisdom.
flames24lightning oh ok...but were you in the game or watching tv or you were born on 1986 i don't know? bit i was not on the game or not born in thare😞 but i watch that on RU-vid it was so cool:D....if you watch it you well be so mad
You're absolutely right, a lot of things went terribly wrong for the Red Sox in the bottom of the 10th inning, 1: Two outs and no one on base, and Schiraldi couldn't close it out. 2: Bob Stanley made two HUGE mistakes. First one the wild pitch, (he later blamed Rich Gedman saying that it should have been a passed ball) second one they had Ray Knight easily picked off at 2nd base. Stanley never looked at Marty Barrett. Even if Buckner fields that grounder Wilson would have beat both Buckner or Stanley to 1st.
Thanks for the intelligent comment. In game 6 Clemens was pitching great. McNamara pulled him for Shiraldi, and then Stanley, both were a joke. And who threw the wild pitch to tie the game? Stanley. And the reality is that even if Buckner catches the grounder, Wilson beats both the throw and Stanley to the bag. Buckner got a bad rap for sure.
when Jesse dropped to his knees so did we!!! one of the greatest series ever nd I'm glad I got to see it!!! we were there my twin sister and I we became Champions too as fans
Man I remember this night even though I was 8 years old. I remember sitting in the front porch at my Grandfathers house in Queens. I loved the METS because he taught me to love my METS. Could never forget this night. The entire block lit up and stayed lit for hours.
God Bless the 1986 Mets! Thank You for the Great Memories and Gift you gave to New York City. As a Yankees Fan since 1977 i was seriously rooting for the Mets to beat the Red Sox and WIN IT ALL for New York City! This was their Time Right to Shine! Hope the Mets WIN IT ALL AGAIN of course if they are playing against some other MLB Team in the World Series besides the Yankees.
Never fails to bring tears to my eyes. Long before my time, but my family has always supported the Mets to some extent (my late aunt Tracy loved them, and Gary Carter was her hero [met him many times during his stint in the “Big Apple”]). My mother told me after they won it all, my late grandfather “bench-pressed her in celebration on the front porch”, and that is a beautiful mental image to have of how they enjoyed the sport. May all three individuals listed here rest easy; they have certainly earned their eternal rest!
I was 8 years old when this happened and I remember it like it was yesterday. Watching Jesse Orosco throw his hands up and collapse on the ground, my entire family huddled around the TV jumping up and down and screaming... I could relive that moment over again for a lifetime.
I remember this so well. My dad was living at the time, we both are screaming at the top of our lungs. We both loved the Mets, went to a lot of games at Shea. My dad would be so happy that they're going to the World Series again. Let's Go Mets!!! Beat KC Totals!!!
The Kid is first to get to the mound and he is immediately train wrecked to the ground. Also, note the final hug we see here is a very emotional Dykstra finding Gary and giving him a huge hug. Now that’s true brotherhood right there. Love this team. I wish so hard for the Mets to do it again some time soon. For the fans, for the franchise, but most importantly for my Father. I was not born yet in ‘86 so I want to be there to celebrate with him for the next one.
I was 13. Just the second World Series I was able to watch in my native Colombia. Game six was the reason why I fell in love with the Mets. Today I'm still a great fan and follow every single game.
Jesse Orosco is super cool. Took my son to Frozen Ropes in San Diego. Jesse comes over to ask if he can help my son.... lol Absolutely Jesse! Then he starts cracking some balls. Threw lefty, hit righty!
i give a f*ck what anybody say's No Other City Area in North America Historically has the Energy and Excitement that New York City Area has when Celebrating. There is nothing on Earth in Sports more exciting.
@@damontitus540 It's sad, but true. As an original New Yorker, when I go back to visit, it gets more unrecognizable. NYC has lost it's edge. It is indeed a 'corporate Disneyland', that sums it up. Fucking bummer! It used to be such a blast.
🎸 My dad was in a rock band with all the Orozco Brothers in Santa Barbara, CA 🍓 And how about Strawberry? He is always out hear in Los Angeles sharing how the Lord redeemed and rescued him from death to Life 📖 🤙
I was there! :) Way back in the upper deck, but because of the rainout the previous day my brother and I got the tickets from my uncle! Awesome moment!!!!! LFGM!!!!
I'm a Yankees fan but that 86 Mets team was truly magical. I was only 8 years old at that time but Orosco's toss of the g love after the last strike is a memory I'll never forget.
1986 and 1996 were very good years for New York City MLB Teams. There is nothing in North American Professional Team Sports that equals the energy and excitement of a New York City Area MLB, NFL, NBA and NHL Team winning a Championship.
Monday night football at this moment: the crowd pop at Giants stadium scared the shit out of everyone on the field. 1986 was a glorious year for the tri state area. It's a shame we didn't have the wild card back then, because the Mets probably could have won at least two more and we probably would have had the Yankees in 1985.
It’s been more than 37 years now. And the Red Sox have won FOUR championships since this game. But this one should have been the one that broke the “Curse”
The 1986 playoffs and then the World Series was the most entertaining and dramatic baseball I have ever seen it also helps that the Mets were my favorite team at the time and the Redsox were my favorite AL team as happy as I was for the Mets I really felt bad for the Red Sox and when it was over it was kind of bittersweet but man talk about drama! So glad the Sox pulled it off in 04 and they are my #1 team today. Those 86 Mets were as colourful as any team I've ever followed. Currently reading Lenny Dykstra's book it's bring back a lot of memories from that era...I don't care what anyone says baseball is the greatest game on earth!
I'm a die hard Yanks fan and even I celebrated in the streets in NJ, on this night. Great season, great memories. There was a caravan of cars and vans down the main ave in my hometown that night. People celebrated into the next day.
Irony is Red Sox Wade Boggs 10 Years Later would be Celebrating his World Series Ring riding a Horse at Yankee Stadium across the River from here in this Ballpark. Don't you just love MLB.
I remember this like it was last week. I was definitely happy when the Mets won the 1986 World Series. I grew up in the Tri-state area. I was 16 yrs old. I was GLUED to the TV set. I am not a Mets fan.. I am a Yankees fan but I HATE the Red Sox, just as any good and True Yankees fan and American should. But I was thrilled they won. This was 36 yrs ago. They have no won another World Series since. Better luck in 2023.
After the way "the Curse" ended Game 6, it didn't matter if the Mets were down 87 trillion to nothing with 2 outs in the bottom of the 9th in game 7 with the bags empty and the pitcher batting 0-2, they were still gonna win.
I watched game 6 from the ramp off of the 7 train! I couldn't watch the 9th inning because of my nervs and had to listen to it in the other room.. I was 11
