How do you approach challenges? In my restoration of my 1961 VW Type 2 Kombi, and 1964 VW Karmann Ghia, I have faced quite a lot of challenges. But I enjoy the process of problem solving, and coming up with methods to solve them. When I started these projects, I never welded, shaped metal, spray painted or worked on engines, so my learning curve was huge. And I’m still learning. In my quest to restore these cars, I’ve had to set up my dream garage, which led me down a completely different learning path. I hope you enjoy my journey, and look forward to hearing from you. Maybe you can tell me what year did they make the type 14 Karma Ghia automatic because I have one but I’m not sure if the date is correct 1965 through 1969 what year could it be?
Hi John, my understanding is that the Type 14 Karmann Ghia with the automatic transmission began in 1960 and continued through to 1974. To get the exact year, we can work that out from the chassis number, located under the rear seat on the tunnel 👍
No Kûbelwagen, it was produced in more quantity than the Schwimmwagen and is different to the Thing. There's also the Kommandeurswagen which is a 4WD Beetle produced during the war. Nice images indeed.
Good information, thank you. So there seems to be a Type 8 used during the war. I can see that the Kommandeurswagen is a Type 87 and the Kubelwagen is a Type 82, and went under other type numbers as well.
Hi Allan, it was a combination of methods. The thin chisel worked well for the rust out sections, and drilling the spot welds worked for the healthier sections. 👍
I have a 67 KG which was 6 volts, in about 1987 I converted the car to 12 volts but left the hooters & starter motor 6v, those two items are still running perfectly today in 2022, the hooters are extremely loud & the starter turns very fast.
Back in 2011 I started working on my 1967 vw bus. I followed your videos they were a great help. Currently the bus is 75% complete.. I ran into serious health issues in July this year 2022 I turned 68 years old. At this point I'm having issues with walking and standing . This year I'm in the process of moving into a new home that is handicap friendly. It has a 3 car garage that I must get set-up where my friend and I can start working on my bus. My VW hobby is the one thing that keeps me positive, adapting and moving forward.
