Why is this smoking?

HELP! I'm having an issue with the clutch. It wont fully disengage, so it crunches the gears. I fitted a new Bowden Tube, but the problem is still there, and there is an odd smoke coming from one of the bolts.
Has anyone come across this?

throw out bearing may be gone.

Something is seriously hot in the gearbox bell housing for it to smoke! My guess would be a throw out bearing has partially dislodged or the clutch arm forks are bent. In any case the engine has to come out to fix it at this point.

Oh fun, I’ve not taken the engine out of a Karmann before. Time to experience that 👍

@@KombiGarage Engine out is pretty simple being 4 bolts , fuel line and a few cables. A tip is to remove a rear wheel and slide the engine out sideways rather than under the rear valance. If it's anything like mine was expect plenty of 'while your in there' moments lol.

Is it even called a throw out bearing? And is it made of carbon like a bus?

Agree with the other posters. Either the throw out bearing is bad/dislodged or you are running the incorrect bearing/plate/disc combo. Take the motor out and let us know what you find! Good luck.

It was working fine before I removed the pedal, which is weird. Oh well, I’ll just have to do a video on what I find when the engine comes out. Thanks for the advice 👍
