It couldn't have taken that much more effort to enable 480p the same way many other games did back then, some publishers like capcom just didn't seem to push it. You can tell by just how easy it is to force these games to progressive using swiss.
Yea I’m not sure what exactly the self imposed development requirements are for 480p. Swiss can force almost all of them and Capcom went on to have progressive scan for RE0 and RE4. I’ve also seen interviews with the Monkey Ball developers saying they didn’t have time to do 480p for the first game but made sure to include it in the second game. Maybe it’s a QA thing that that they needed to make sure it wouldn’t break anything? I’d really like to get an answer to this sometime. Fingers crossed 🤞
I have to arbitrarily pop up for a Kid Icarus reference. When you said "not that Icarus", I went "...aww...dang it" (I am a huge Kid Icarus fangirl lol)
I recently picked up this game from a mall retro selling gathering, it was basically untouched and I saw it had decent reviews and was cheap, so why not. Should try it out sometime.
I keep getting a GameCube kick every so often and I usually want to hear about more than just the usual favorites, all kinds of games for it, just because it's a weird gem of a system of my favorite company. I will be checking out this channel more.
Thank you so much! I get all kinds of different kicks for different systems. But I’ve resolved to try and stick to churning out GameCube content consistently!
This was one my friend had that I ended up skipping, probably for the best. The sequel is absolutely legendary though! Can’t wait for your video on that one!
I have fond memories of this game, one of my very first gamecube games as a kid, i still remember playing one of the first levels where youre fighting crooks in a warehouse and playing until my eyes burned. Good times
I just want to express how well produced and researched your content is. I have subscribed and will look forward to future releases, but I have one question: Have you considered a new intro? Your current one is a bit loud and energetic, but that is just my opinion.
Hey thanks for the kind words and for subscribing! On the matter of the intro, I’m personally a bit attached to the song as the band that gave permission for it was a good inspiration for me starting making my own content. I’ve gotten mostly good feedback on it but have had one or two people comment on it being a bit loud and the show being bedtime content for them. When I get closer to completion on whole years of this project I think I’ll compile them into a bigger longer video that’ll likely omit the theme song or otherwise be a bit more subdued and documentary like. I hope that insight at least helps a bit. 🙏
Amazing work as always! Can’t wait for the next one! It’s wild to see what these developers got up to before… for lack of a better word, getting where they are now. RIP Neversoft, and poor Treyarch. Stuck in the COD mines for the majority of their existence.
Aw man you didn't mention my favorite part! Playing as the Hobgoblin with a fully working glider and all the fun pumpkin bombs! Oh also the bowling lol! Love these videos!
@@ChronCube oh me either, but there is a cheat code to let you skip levels and if you do that on the hardest difficulty, all the way to the end, it will unlock it! There aint no way I could beat oscorp without that lol
Had this game as a kid and 90% of my playtime is just the first level could never get passed the second and rather then keep trying i preferred to just swing around level 1
Love this series, always get excited when I see you've posted a new one! Treyarch's first Spider-Man game is still verrrry much based on Neversoft's, and I think comes off in a better light when viewed as basically a sequel to that game-the same moves, controls, AI, etc. with a prettier coat of paint. I think the reason you might be having trouble with air combat and why you're moving higher when you're swinging is because you're holding up on the control stick, maybe because you're instinctually trying to move forward. You control your midair direction when you're swinging-down on the stick lowers your altitude, up increases it, left & right drift a little bit in those directions. Counterintuitively, this is also the case in "camera lock" mode, when the camera is relative to an enemy and not behind Spidey. Think of the swinging more like flying and it becomes like second nature lol.
You might be right. PS4/PS5 Spider-Man may have too much of a grip on me. I actually continued to play this game more on the OG Xbox and got a bit further. Still a little clunky in places but I could complete a few more levels before just giving up on the all-stealth Oscorp level.
Pac-Man World 2 is a game I always really enjoyed, and felt it was the best in the World series, hands-down. I never knew about the original 3D prototype game! Funny enough, I’ve been wanting to do an episode covering every Pac-Man GC game for over a year now, and even have the thumbnail for it, but never got around to finishing that episode yet lol. Another awesome video as always man!
Another good video! I love all the history behind each game - I especially appreciate that although this is a GC featured series you don't shy away from talking about the history of the games in regards to other platforms, and even relevant games from competitors. It really provides good context!
Absolutely wonderful video! You do the Gamecube’s history justice better than any RU-vidr or book I’ve seen. I’ve been following this console at an almost obsessive level since the late 2000s. I had a vision to build a channel similar to this but not sure I could make something as good as your content haha Thank you so much for your videos and channel!
While I love the passion and depth you bring to each episode, I wish you'd keep the original aspect ratio. These graphics were never meant to be stretched out like this. Pac-Land looks like an Easter egg adventure.
I used to really enjoy playing this as a child. Never really stuck with it to the same extent as Melee, but it was definitely fun, felt good to play and (echoing what you said in the video) easy to get into! Thanks for the video, cant wait for the next one!
I been playing a lot of Bloody Roar Extreme on my GameCube, I don’t own the US version. Such a great series wish it would come back. Good video 👍 BRPF still holds up beautifully🤩 Also the Japanese version does have progressive scan.
This is a game I recently dove into on the GC library for in one of my hidden gems episodes, and yeah, it's exactly that! While the PS1 installments were fairly more known, I felt the GC version almost no one talked about. Fascinating hearing the history of the franchise, and extremely well researched man!
Also, jeez. The Gamecube I have always considered to have the best graphics I've ever seen. I mean, something about that system made 3D games look good. Rogue Leader? Come on.
Is that way Nintendo gave up on AA? Really annoying that they did given how basic it is and how much better it can make a game look. The fact even Switch doesn’t have it is pathetic and annoying.
@@mrshmuga9 On consoles with mods, you can remove the filter on Gamecube and Xbox. The image with this "AA" is blurry. I prefer it without the filter.I like a sharp image, especially if I'm using a component cable
