@@myrustygarden Thanks for the sub. I thought the sunflowers were a dwarf variety when I sowed them and expected them to be 3 or 4 ft tall. They are now about 8ft tall!!! I've enjoyed them being there though so I will definitely grow some next year. Hopefully the birds will love them as well as the bees.
Love the vlogs. Wow your onions!! Do you sow your onions from seed? I sowed 100 bulbs this year, 50 red and 50 brown, all of them rotted away due to this weather. I'm yet to grow a real decent onion. I think they're rapidly becoming that one item I can't grow. I suppose we all have one.
Thanks. Yes it's a bad year for most of us in the UK in terms of weather. It's actually my first time growing onions. The variety is called "Exhibition". It's a large show type onion but I just got them to do a little growing competition amongst family for fun. I have seen many many comments and videos about it being better to start from seed due to less chance of disease and also because onions are biennial plants which go to seed in year two - sets are in their second year of growth so are much more likely to go to seed than onions grown from seed (that are still in their first year). I have enjoyed the early process of growing onions from seed so I plan on only growing from seed in future. I started mine early January this year so it's a long process.
My peas look like yours, they have a few flowers on and theres 7 pods so im going to leave them but put some netting over as another plot owner thinks its birds, time will tell
It's a tiny plot. Just 62m². But I'm proud of what I've achieved in a few short months. This time last year the whole area was knee high in grass and weeds.
I've seen that the black fly can ruin new pods of broad beans, saw the vid from another UK allotmenter. Your plot looks great :) Greetings from Canada.
Yes, the black fly problem has got out of hand now actually. I picked a load today from lower down which are ok but at the top of the plants all the small pods are covered. I did remove the tops a few week ago but that hasn't helped really.
@@matchynishi Not sure. Apparently permethrin is a synthetic version of pyrethrin but it has been withdrawn from sale. Couldn't see any pyrethrin in a google search. I'll probably just leave them anyway. Will do one more pick then cut the plants down.
