No fake glit n glamour of hollywood. Yet a wonderfull film. In the book, Cap. Werner von Ebrenach talked near the fire place every evening. Nobody answered. He was very educated. He was a musician, that explained his delicat expressiveness. Actually he came from a classy aristocratic german old school. Grandpa was a great observer.
I SAW A REMAKE OF THIS FILM WHICH WAS TITLED "SUITE FRANCOIS" WHICH STARRED MICHELE WILLIAMS...THEY OF COURSE HAD TO STOOP TO USING GRATUITOUS SEX...AS OPPOSED TO THE PURE BEAUTY AND INTENSITY OF EMOTIONS OF THIS MOVIE...BUT I ENJOYED THE OTHER MOVIE TOO...BUT IT DOES SHOW HOW SUPERIOR THIS MOVIE WAS DUE TO ITS PURITY OF CINEMATIC BRILLIANCE 🎉
This film won't appeal to anyone under 45 as there is no violent sex, or profanity. Even though it was a war film it still showed humanity. Unlike today's offerings.
If only there were more film producers like this today. It just proves that less is always more. But could somebody tell me the significance of the letter? Was it to her? It was brilliant though and the Captain was so handsome
Beautiful. Except, that we know the history is falsely written. The resistance had been on the wrong side. All influenced by the communists. How did the British comment after the war? " We slaughtered the wrong pig" - right they were. We are not fooled by the victors, are we?
I haVE watched this movie a number of times. I am of the generation just post 2war, my mother was 17 when it started, and parents lived in an area that was claimed by Germans as their own, therefore they were displased to the Eastern parts of the country .They were dransported in cattlen carriegies, Winter of 1939/40 was a severe one with frosts bleow 20C. My g-mother was starving and she had to provide for her two daughters, 15 and 17 year olds. The person who helped her survive was a German school teache who was send to the Eastern front for teaching Heine at school. My g-mother survived however I do not think he did. Yes, it is over 80 year ago but still vivid in the tales of my family and the history is repeating itself with different mad man.
