In one part of the video you waffle on about a smart meter being used to tell what appliances are being used in your house. A few minutes later when discussing the limitations of the current technology you state that smart meters cant be used to tell a provider what devices you are using. Doesn't sound like you really know anything about smart meters. My house in Australia has a smart meter...it allows my energy retailer to charge me time of use tariffs that vary depending in the time of day. Between 1000 and 1500 hrs is the cheapest time for using grid power so I maximize my energy usage during that period. I also charge my home battery during that period if my PV system output is low and then run the house off the battery during times of the day when power prices are at higher tariffs.
Oh please, put your tin foil hat back on. Smart meter is so no more meter readers walking around and if they want to cut power due to no bill pay is they now can do it from the office. That's it.
If companies can raise kWh rates any time they want to? Can't a company raise rates beyond allowable rates, here and there? How are we to know if a company CHEATS?
How can you save money when the standing charge keeps rising? If you are cold then you must have the heating on, the smart meter can not help you with this. It is all about control.
Thank you, I found this to be the most informative video on the topic of smart meters. You pointed out facts even I didn't take into account. I am getting pestered more or less daily, (just had a bloody text as we speak from them), telling me they are coming to install one and would I please let them in. I don't want one, so I am not having one, simple. I'll deal with any enforcement issues if they arise. Who the f**k do these people think they are. Thanks once again, have a good day.
what is the new [as of May 2024] scam on meters: that says the BBC [yep auntie] is switching off the signal to the 'non-smart' electricity meters? Does anybody know about this?
Smart meters were designed simply to control peak grid loading and to bill customers automatically to reduce costs. They do not spy on you, cause cancer or scramble your brains, although many who are wary of smart meters already have a mental issue.. one example here.
This is the best excalibur twin video on yt. no useless stuff, no 10 minutes of zooming in on some guys face while he spews his useless opinion. You get to see the crossbow, how its cocked and shot. bravo, thats what i wanted to see...
A very clever tool, and great overview video. It looks well designed and well produced. I'm not sure that I would want to pay the $600 for it over just a decent medium axe, fixed blade knife, and folding saw (which could easily be had for $100+ or so altogether in steel), but I can see how many would want to buy this. Your comment about adding a light and fire-starting materials was a good observation, and the analogy with a Victorinox tool was insightful.
"Smart meters measure your energy usage in real time" ---- Just like my current digital meter then :) I don't need my electrical supply controlled centrally. If I get an estimated bill, I just take 1 minute to read my meter and submit online and get a new bill. I don't need a smart meter to tell me leaving the lights on and chargers plugged in uses more power as I have a brain.
Our taxes pay for the generation of electricty, and then the parasitic meter supply companies(utility companies) charge you to let this already paid for electricity to pass through their meter at an extortionate cost!
A smart meter has a separate registers for power used from the grid and solar power being fed back into the grid. If your PV system is putting out more than you're using in your house the excess will go onto the grid and be metered as such.
The air is filled with radio waves and mobile phones and magnetic fields from electricity transformers and underground and overhead lines and your concerned about a smart meter, get a life mate please and jeep supporting that sad Labour party in Wales, hilarious
Man you are one sad bloke ,there are no risks involved in smart meters,if your original meter became faulty they would have to come to your property anyway
What the hell has that got to do with your smart meter, and I think you should get out more mate instead of sitting in your bedroom thinking about problems that just don't exist
It seems great for night rate if you run anything at night and especially with charging electric cars. If you have any family members who stay up late too. Though I do think privacy concerns are real and they should just calculate your overall cost on device and send it off to themselves. And if they really want to make sure you haven't messed with it. Have someone come around and check it like they always have with standard ones. Everything shouldn't be IOT (internet of things) connected crap. I don't care about breakdowns of devices used like you said, all I care about is the lower rates. People can realize their use without an app telling them. And it kind of contradicts what you said about privacy if you want a more detailed breakdown for it to be "useful".
That's very helpful info even though it's from a few years ago. I've just seen on another YT channel that legislation is in place for circs where Energy Suppliers can force a smart meter. Either on the meter or known by energy Suppliers there is a manufacturers expiry date for when meters become no longer safe to use. Energy suppliers cannot force you to have a meter unless when approaching judge for court order and police assistance they have to have this expiry date as part of their evidence. However, if you have RMF/RF sensitivity or asthma and are affected by EMF/RF waves you could potentially refuse to have one on health grounds. They cannot demand you give them your medical info which is private between you and Doctor. Old monologue meters ceased being manufactured in 2014 by Govt order.
There was a case in the US where information from a smart meter was used in court as evidence, this related to use of hot water and cleaning a crime scene. The extra usage came into focus when compared to the average daily use of the tenant. The same could happen here. imagine saying that you live alone, then the meter grasses you up as you have 2 baths during the evening. I doubt it will be long before all agencies are able to benefit from the information harvested. Someone also mentioned the other day, that when combined with a dimmer switch in the house, that the electrical field is pulled in further. Regardless. not having one.
I have experienced a house fire due to faulty electrics and heard that the smart metres can cause fires. So not happy to install one until there is clear evidence they’re safe.
V.A.T. was an old E.E.C. ( European Economic Community 1970) tax. It ( V.A.T.) was devised by a German Economic Adviser and named thus :- " Mehrwersteuer," which translated to English means ," More Worth Tax." As the new ( unelected by UK) E.U. " European Union," morphed into the one size fits all / square pegs into round holes quango-corp we Brits grew to despise, we decided to ditch it in a majority referendum in 2016. V.A.T. was therefore an E.E.C./ E.U. tax and as we have now officially left the E.U., NO British person should be paying it anywhere in the British isles. If you have any doubts about any of the above ?, you can double check online at Wikipedia by asking ," Is V.A.T. a British Tax ?." Guten Tag ! ( Good Day)
Hang on a sec... at 5:00 you say your supplier can remotely cut off or restrict supply in the event of non-payment - but then two minutes later you say that smart meters only transmit traffic one way - which prevents updates being pushed to the device. That being the case, how can a supplier "command" a meter to disconnect?
They can transmit data both ways, for instance, for a firmware update. However, suppliers are currently prevented from remote disconnect/connect for safety reasons, i.e., in the case of disconnect, someone may need vital medical equipment, and in the case of reconnect, someone may have left the oven on. For this reason, Ofgem have ruled suppliers cannot disrupt the supply remotely.
We have one & had it quite sometime & we find that the use of electric is been LEGALLY around £2 a day except when the washing machine is used ( about once rarely twice a week. Then it we find the use of electric is about £4-50p a day Still we are quite happy for tge items we use on electric daily we cant't complain. 2 fridge freezers a chest freezer charging phones & tablets up regular tv's on & a standard fridge & fans to keep one room cool ( as i spend 90+ % ) time in it. I ABSOLUTELY DESPISE having the heating on if it drops 1 c My partners STUPID OLD HAG of a so called mother has it on & i have to turn the stupid thing off again due to the way the STUPID heating system is set up. & no they won't sort it out regardless of the extreme amount of complaints about it. 😡😡😡😡😡😡😡👎👎👎 So that is why i have coolers going on 24hrs a day to cool me down & feel a bit more comfy until we move away from the OLD WITCH!!!! ( SADLY SEEMS LIKE NEVER!!!!😡😡😡😡😡😕😟😟😟 ) So, as for our smart meter we are quite happy with ours Others may not be but, maybe they are not on a really low tarif as we are Don't ask me ( i don't pay bills ) i don't know we just are.
After all the smart meters are installed the power company will have rate hikes in high use times for example 3pm till 11pm is the highest rate 11pm to 6am the lowest rate
