My understanding is, currently, if an energy provider want's to cut you off they have to obtain a Court Order for access to your home as, otherwise, they'd be trespassing if you denied them access. A smart meter can disconnect you remotely literally by a click of a computer mouse at head office. Who benefits here I wonder.......??

I have a friend who works as a collector for a large electric company and he told me these meters are hazardous to your health, that’s not all they are easy to hack into by hackers and they can get your personal information. They control your usage as well. Some of the side effects being near these meters are headaches, heart palpitations, dizziness, and shortness of breath. I opt out from having one installed on my home. Because of that I have to pay an extra $16 a month and I am ok with that. Even you you have one you can still opt out.

I've already had this conversation with EDF. They constantly peck away, warning us that the analog meter will be switched off at some upcoming date, I can't remember when that is supposed to be. I'm not having a smart meter, they can shove it where the sun doesn't shine. If it comes to it, I will make my own arrangements for power supply and they can fork off.

Un less they take that big amp fuse out of your box by the meter they cannot switch you off. As that is the mains connection to your home. Then the tails to your meter. Must be removed. This is the only way they can cut you off. That means comming on to and or into your home. Depending where your meter is located . Deny them implied right of access. As then they would be trespassing. Civel matter not police or law matter. Hope this helps.

Yes I'm with these tyrants too. Write to to the CEO Simone Rossi and put them in knowledge of the fact that they already get paid from the trust fund created when your birth was registered. You are (Why you are) already debt free (title of another You Tube video by Sovereign Empowerment. So you will no longer pay their double charge bills from your own pocket. They are a for profit corporation; which operates under corporate laws. These do not give it any legal powers to tell you what to do or when to do it. Or to pay them a sum of money they say you have a liability to pay. Make them aware that there is no contract of agreement or acceptance; signed in wet ink by two living, breathing men / women. They will come back with tyrants bluster but, they could or would not adduce conclusive evidence of a contract outside or inside a court room. Where the legal maxim: He who asserts must prove' would apply. They are only a collecting company not the supplier, so are acting fraudulently. Fraud on the people - when fraud comes in it kills everything; i.e. liability to pay council tax. Their charge to you, the living, breathing man or woman is an additional double charge, to that against your 'Strawman' legal fiction dead entity. Tell them all this and, all the grounds of objection you can raise against privatised energy supply; which was imposed without prior consultation, or agreement. I have already traversed this road so speak from experience. In the 'light Paper' (alternative to the mainstream government supporting papers) issue 36, there is an article on page 4, by LINDSAY HARPER; entitled: How to trump tyranny. They only have threats but YOU have the power.✊

@@billyandrew The LITTLE DETAIL that Billy is IGNORING................... IS THE COST OF HIS DEFIANCE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! We have had smart meters here in Canada for at least a decade - and the things were installed for TWO REASONS!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First - smart meters broadcast their monthly information regarding power usage - making it MUCH FASTER AND CHEAPER for power supplier to pick up billing information - no need for an employee to physically get onto your property to visually read the old style meters ............................ BUT THE REAL KEY is that smart meters can track TOU - meaning TIME OF USE and power corps LIKE THE IDEA of being able to charge you MORE for using power at certain times of the day!!! WHAT THIS MEANS for those who refuse smart meters is YOU WILL PAY FULL PRICE FOR POWER REGARDLESS OF TOU - you will pay highest price even for power used during the cheapest times after midnight - when others with smart meters are paying ONE THIRD your rate!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

What annoys me is that we have had the cost of the meter roll out put on our bills without our consent. It’s hundreds of pounds to get the detail of what I’m using. I have already had power monitoring in my house for 10+ years so I know I’ve reduced my usage down to about 80 watts base load. There’s no way I can reduce it further without turning off things I actually use so a smart meter is not going to benefit me. On top of that the damm things are able to measure power factor and charge accordingly at the moment we don’t pay for power factor adjustment. My parents have one installed and the home unit crashes on a weekly basis. If they can’t program that then I don’t trust them with accurate metering and security.

Just a side note, a generation 2 onwards can be changed remotely by suppliers. Also DNO'S want everybody in/on streets, estates etc to install them so they can lower the voltage at off peak times (during the day usually) potentially saving THEM energy. Nonsense. In the UK, the declared voltage and tolerance for an electricity supply is 230 volts -6%, +10%. This gives an allowed voltage range of 216.2 volts to 253.0 volts. Appliances are designed to work within these limits (and a bit more above/below) Nobody will save anything though. For example, a kettle has an element with a resistance, that resistance does not change. If the voltage is lower, the kettle will draw less amps and therefore less power (kW) BUT it will take longer to boil the same amount of water.

Smart meters cannot change the supply voltage, nor can everyone in a street having a smart meter make this any easier as this can only be done by changing transformer taps in sub-stations. Smart meters are clocking up power usage when no power is being used on particular types of device. Heat pumps seem to case a smart meter to register more electricity that they could not possibly be using. It may be a particular type of electric motor in some heat pumps which generates a waveform which confuses the smart meter electronics.

Do what I did...told them I couldn't pay, so they'd have to remove their meters (gas and Leccy) and take me to court for the money owed. They tried the threats and I laughed, told them I'd recorded the call, then hung up. They tried for a few days and got the same response each time. Just under four weeks later they 'discovered' a tariff to my liking. Greed is their driving force. Once they realise the threats won't work they come to their senses. There is no law compelling you to accept a fuel supply, which means no money for them, as they have to remove their meters...at their cost, regardless of what lies they try tell you. They'd sooner accept your terms than lose that revenue and risk you going to another supplier.

There was a case in the US where information from a smart meter was used in court as evidence, this related to use of hot water and cleaning a crime scene. The extra usage came into focus when compared to the average daily use of the tenant. The same could happen here. imagine saying that you live alone, then the meter grasses you up as you have 2 baths during the evening. I doubt it will be long before all agencies are able to benefit from the information harvested. Someone also mentioned the other day, that when combined with a dimmer switch in the house, that the electrical field is pulled in further. Regardless. not having one.

I'm switching back to the analogue meter. Since the smart meters were installed here in Southern California, my utility fee has almost tripled - $1200 in one month what 3 years ago was $400. It's insane. If, and when, the meter fails, it's designed to charge the customer at a higher rate - for example, both incoming 110 feeds have a digital monitoring chip that reports to the mesh network at a specified interval. If one of your monitoring chips fail, it doubles the working monitor chip draw by default for usage and billing, which can cause elevated bills because homes are not wired symmetrically per draw/amperage usage. Analogue meters cannot fail, whereas digital meters can and when they do, the client pays more which is opposite of consumer protections. These meters can be hacked, coding altered, and potentially exploited by power companies who are as trustworthy as a rattlesnake - they can adjust the 1:1 monitoring algorithm by just a hundredth of a decimal point and inconspicuously overcharge hundreds of thousands of consumers to generate millions of dollars in additional revenue. There is zero oversight/fraud protection for us the consumer and it is already present in our bills.

If the meters were inaccurate then it would be picked up and there would be a huge public outcry and the meters would be prohibited from being used.

That's very helpful info even though it's from a few years ago. I've just seen on another YT channel that legislation is in place for circs where Energy Suppliers can force a smart meter. Either on the meter or known by energy Suppliers there is a manufacturers expiry date for when meters become no longer safe to use. Energy suppliers cannot force you to have a meter unless when approaching judge for court order and police assistance they have to have this expiry date as part of their evidence. However, if you have RMF/RF sensitivity or asthma and are affected by EMF/RF waves you could potentially refuse to have one on health grounds. They cannot demand you give them your medical info which is private between you and Doctor. Old monologue meters ceased being manufactured in 2014 by Govt order.

Was due to have a smart meter thursday, guy turned up after driving his van across my freshly seeded verge then marched down the hallway with muddy boots over the carpet. He then told me he was going to inspect all my appliances to make sure they were up to standard. I said "what do you do if you find a bad one", He told me he would then "condemn the equipment". My wife was ill in bed at the time and access is required through her bedroom to a new boiler in a cupboard leading off it. Told him I did not know of any faulty equipment but wanted the meter changed not a household electrical and appliance check. He then said we couldn't do it and I threw him out. E-on complaint submitted. Seems its an excuse to drum up extra work.

All they need to check and be happy with is the main earthing to the consumer unit. Your appliances, and any electrical installation after the meter have no bearing on their work. If they see something that concerns them within the area they are working, they may be obliged to make you aware of it. But essentially, the installation will be no more dangerous than it was before they started their work. I'd have been inclined to report it to the police as suspicious behaviour, just incase this guy, or the company, are coming people into having more work done. Then inform EON that this behaviour has given you cause to report it to the police.
@deang5622
@deang5622 Год назад
They do not have the power to condemn electrical appliances. I have had this argument previously on YT with qualified electricians. They have no such legal power. All they can do is inspect the electrical installation which does NOT include appliances. If they find a safety issue with the electrical installation they can approach the resident or owner and ask for permission to turn the power off to the dangerous part of the installation and the resident or owner can refuse, and there is nothing the electrician can do about it. If the unsafe part of the installation is de-energised, there is nothing to stop the resident from turning the power back on, though if it really is a C1 condition code against the defect, it would be unwise to turn it back on. There are actual websites belonging to firms of electricians where they say they have the power to condemn an electrical installation. Electricians are not the brightest of people, they are generally quite poorly educated and when it comes to legal matters, they are completely clueless.

They can transmit data both ways, for instance, for a firmware update. For this reason, Ofgem have ruled suppliers cannot disrupt the supply remotely.

It is in a wooden box and directly above it on the first floor is my bed and my head is in line with the box and about 4 feet above the meter when I am lying down with only wooden floor boards as a barrier. I have just emailed E-on about this and asked if there are any health risks. I know they are going to be biased but it will interesting to see what they say. I have also just ordered an EMF reader to check emissions with. It is all a bit worrying, especially since this is a small one bedroom cottage and I cannot move my bed. My neighbor got a smart meter. It faces our home. We are about 15 feet apart on that side and our bedroom and living room is on that side. Do you know if this would be dangerous for us? If so, what can I do on my end to protect that side of home?
@Mannwhich
@Mannwhich Год назад
Search for a special paint that blocks EMF radiation. And paint the walls on the side of the house with the meter. Just had 4 smart meters installed in my apartment building. Right on the other side of my bedroom wall. With another 4 meters 10 feet away on the building next to us. They seem to turn on around the same time everyday for an hour. We can tell because our bodies get all tingly, then pin pricks, followed by aches and pains all over, headaches, dizziness, chills, and tiredness. The effects can last the rest of the day. So our best bet is to avoid our apartment during that hour they turn on. It's annoying, but it's better than feeling like $hit. It's not subtle either, we literally feel like we're being hit by something.

The biggest risk you failed to mention. That's FIRE! Smart meters have a relay inside which is massively under-rated to switch a full load. This has on many occasion lead to overheating and fire. Normal traditional meters do not have such a relay and are inherently safe in comparison.
@deang5622
@deang5622 Год назад
Rubbish. Nothing to do with switching the load. To switch the power on and off, there has to be a relay present as you suggest. That relay has to be in the phase line. It's probably a double pole relay switching both neutral and live line. Now whether it is a single pole or double pole isn't particular important for the purpose of this discussion. But the relays contacts have to the capability to carry the maximum load current for the entire property. That maximum current is typically 100 amps. The main cutout fuse in many properties is 100 amps. If the relay contacts are rated at less than this, then there is a fire risk. There is no way on earth my friend, that the regulatory bodies are going to allow smart electricity meters to be installed that cannot safely carry 100 amps of current. It is *not* happening. If they permitted that, every property which has a main cutout fuse of 100 amps - which is the majority of properties although not all - is at risk of fire. The fire brigade would not allow this situation to happen.
@uktvcool
@uktvcool Год назад

I had a smart meter installed 2015/16 and the IHD was never able to contact the energy company. The stone fabric of the house was to blame I was told. I'd never been sure how any of this process could possibly save me any money. There's no price difference for the time of day that gas or electricity is used with any of the energy companies I've been with. So the only way to save money on energy use is to use absolutely nothing. Ever. I do what I can to eat cold food. Sit in the dark mostly. Only read books during daylight. The whole thing is one big con.

From what I understand the SMET ( 1 & 2 ) use the GSM ( 2 & 3 ) network to communicate with the energy provider. Given that those GSM standards are due to be phased out by 2033 and some GSM providers are going to sunset GSM 2 & 3 this year. Looks like even the newest 'SMART' meter will be next to useless in 2033, but possibly before then. I had a smart meter, the problem with it was it wasn't very smart, in fact I'd say it was really dumb, the display was about 30 foot from the feed and the signal was on 2.4GHZ Wi-Fi, every Wi-Fi signal in reach including my neighbours Wi-Fi signals caused confusion with the readings, some days it subtracted KW from my running total, I have read about problems with the comunication between the meter and the supply company but my problem was all in house, Have you ever had problems with a Wi-Fi device at home ? OK imagine your electricity payments being dependant on Wi-Fi..it was in a word a NIGHTMARE, I've changed electricity companies since then and have no smart meter now, my new company is asking for permission to fit one, I don't reply.

If it is connected to the internet with out virus software its an entry point for a hacker with out restriction much like your smart TV that is also unprotected, if you have Alexa then its way microphone in your house, a web cam can also be accessed. @QTechX
@QTechX 2 года назад
It wouldn't be a direct threat in this way as the Smart Meter can only measure electricitiy use and is not connected to your devices. However; it is perhaps feasible that this network could be utilised *in theory* to carry traffic about you unrelated to the smart meter; Extreme example- police could plant a camera under a warrant and use the smart meter network to relay the network traffic.
@billyandrew
@billyandrew Год назад
@QTechX Example, your smart tv, watch, fridge, vacuum cleaner, etc, could easily relay information, if hacked or if chips are already incorporated into them, laying inert, until activated by police or _any_ other parties and, unless you are technically minded or familiar with the workings, you might never know. I was politically active, many years ago, and suspected my phone was tapped. A friend (BT engineer) verified it wasn't my land-line, but it was being done from the exchange itself. He couldn't remove the device that was connected, for fear of exposing himself, but just alerting me to the fact made me more circumspect about making and receiving calls. Things have moved on, since then., but I retain a sweeping device, employed every time I arrive home. As the expression goes: _Just because you're paranoid doesn't mean they aren't out to get you._ 😂😂😂

Thanks for comment@@tracybird8668 I guess your in USA? What doesn't make sense is why price goes up with the same use. Good you got it sorted out.. Did they use estimates that you disputed? These meters meant to keep readings up to date, but so many in UK still charge using estimates even if smart meter installed. I'm totally against getting 1, for many reasons. They want total control remotely to ammend tariffs , upgrade new software & possibly ration supply. Find myself in unenviable situation of no working gas meter, no readings taken in over a year due to the covid situation & illness. I too was forced into a digital gas meter > early version of smart> now won't wake up for reading (dead battery?) , installed only 1 year ago & broken already. The old analogue one worked fine 25years! Now find Energy company won't even come to swap it out unless I take a Smart Type2 with built in sim repeater every half hour. They happy with high estimates & now I will never know how much gas I saved heating over Winter, as used my coal fire to heat 1room. UK home energy costs shot up 54% on 1st April due to mismanagement during covid. Now they shoot themselves in foot with green pledges & sanctions that hurt us more than anyone else. Some customer help act like they own the company & take advantage of elderly or disabled people. Really feeling at the end of my tether. This World has changed so much & not for the better imo. Best wishes Tracy. 🙂
