Why didn't you watch the the introduction to the song, the singer explained the meaning of this song and yes it is a true story. Just before he sang this song he told the meaning song. What a shame you skipped by it.
I first heard this song at a Rod Stewart concert at Carlisle FC .Superb and a true story of Irish history. Very moving. Rod actually explained the story behind the song. I found it so emotional. If you have Ireland connections , I do. If also like me you love history this song and its story leads you to the partition of Ireland. Find the same true tale of India and the partition and Creation of Pakistan. Thst book is called Freedom at Midnight . Very interesting . Sometimes we need to understand the true history of a country to understand the present day. My Grandson wrote his disertation for a first at Queen Mary UoL. its entitled Anxiety, Outrage and Repression . sub title. Indian Revolutionary Violence and Colonial Panics within the Brish Empire . 1905 -1919. Fascinating and prior to my above book . He graduatedvin 2018. I was ill, so could not attend . Isn't that the same "British Empire" the Irish were fighting against in 1916 and the CBE of course created by King George V no less who issued order 256 from Windsor Castle in April 1916 that allowed these great men to be executed without trial?
