A song Rod learned from the Celtic supporters in Glasgow. The Irish diaspora brought so many to that fine, old city and their welcome was not always a warm one. They made their way in life, as the Irish did all over the world through hard work & that pugnatious spirit, and if many consider themselves Scots now, they won't forget their roots.
I was born in Stirling Scotland and moved to Perth WA Australia at 17 I'm now 64.Funny my hole family were ràngers supporters and me Celtic. Lucky for me no bigotry in our family. This song is brilliant tells a true story about a young man and his wife for such a short time . Fantastic
He has quite a big presence at Celtic park and he has obviously learned this from our fans singing this amazing ballad regularly. Still, good to see a world wide music star promoting the great men of 1916.🇮🇪🏴
Rod has all the money in the world but the one thing he wants more than anything is to be a Scot! But! money can’t buy that. Such a beautiful song! And I still love Rod! Love you Da, RIP
@@angelamcconnell7592 We’ve made him an honorary Scot. I hope he appreciates it! Because us Scots are not easily swayed😂. Take care Angela have a great Burns night❤🏴
I wish i could have been there Rod I love your version the shivers were running down my spine just listening to you singing Grace God Bless you Rod🇮🇪🇮🇪
He gets better with age I think he's very courageous individual that believes that the English shouldn't tell him what he should and shouldn't sing. Keep it up a great Scotsman.
""courageous" for singing 'Grace' ..really? "believes that the English shouldn't tell him what he should and shouldn't sing" which English suggested to Him what He shouldn't sing in His POP career ?
Rod Rod you are just so good . What you have done to this beautiful Song is so beautiful ,love it love it ..Thank you Rod for always been so down to earth and for your outstanding Version of the Grace song .........Love all your songs and better you are getting .... Singing along with your fans on this one .................... West of Ireland fan of Rods for years ...........God Bless you and yours .....
Tom and myself have seen Rod Stewart at MEN Arena as it was then prior to the Arena bombing . Super concert we were to the left of the stage and above stage . A gift from our son and daughter in law. Next , again a gift. Man city ground Ethihad. June . I had our car driving , we had parked up at ground and walked into Town as we call Manc.along the canal. queues for the return bus at Piccadilly gsrdens huge . So agsin we walked back along the canal . Queing outside the Stadium I heard 2000 miles Pretenders playing.I thought thats odd in June. Upon entering the arena yes, you guessed on the stage Chrissy Hind and the Pretenders. At a Rod Stewart concertbyou never know the support act. No idea it was ghem So we had been gifted pitch seats. On the F/B pitch open air. Tom was sat down I was up dancing if there 50 people in that section that was the max. I looked back and saw our manager from our Manchester who although our prenises at TPark overlook Man U ground is a huge City fan. He and his wife Maggie were there in the stand under the cover of an overhead roof. When the Pretenders finished I took Tom to have a drink with and introduce him to a dear colleague and his fsmily. we went back to our pitch seats . Individual single chairs in the ooen air. Rod always kicks fBalls into the crowd and a great beginning. Then possibly 30 mins in surrounded by his band of superb musicians . Check out the superb voilinist in particular .Super backing singers tok Great set. wonderful. Then, yes you guessed ir the Heavens opened to a deluge of really heavy rain. I thought. OMG the concert will be stopped but then noted all electrucs and equipment under cover of the stage.Rod , what a trooperand all carried on .
😂. The stage at the front in Man City blue sloped diwn towards the pitch at 45 degree angle. Rod was dancing on that slope and it was so wet he fell down. He got hinself up. Wet through and also bleeding too.St Johns orr some medic came and , quick health vheck yeah, im ok said Rod and carried on. Tom was wet but I was in Summer clothes. We left b4 the last number .Hate doing that; but you still hear yhe music and gey tgd atnosphere .Advantsge, back to car and i headed North west to our home .40 miles vi Bllton and Grane Moor . I drove home . I was wet through to underwear. Even after aporox 45 mins drive. I literally dripped into our house. I bagged the shower and undressed . Tom looked still smart . I looked like the wreck if the Hesparus. Spoke to my dear friend and colleague next day. He said what a night. They of course were dry and no probs. He said I know this ground. Obs a city fan. we were bought these expensive fab tickets by Sarah o, our D in Law and our son. Wonderful night .Memorable for many unexpectedbreasons Rod and your supetb team We still salute you . Heard yhe next day on radio . Rod had stitches to his forehead at the end if hhe concert.
I first heard this song at a Rod Stewart concert at Carlisle FC .Superb and a true story of Irish history. Very moving. Rod actually explained the story behind the song. I found it so emotional. If you have Ireland connections , I do. If also like me you love history this song and its story leads you to the partition of Ireland. Find the same true tale of India and the partition and Creation of Pakistan. Thst book is called Freedom at Midnight . Very interesting . Sometimes we need to understand the true history of a country to understand the present day. My Grandson wrote his disertation for a first at Queen Mary UoL. its entitled Anxiety, Outrage and Repression . sub title. Indian Revolutionary Violence and Colonial Panics within the Brish Empire . 1905 -1919. Fascinating and prior to my above book . He graduatedvin 2018. I was ill, so could not attend . His Mum, Dad and Grandad Tom went to the graduation ceremony. Meanwhile our lovely Granddaughter and myself and Sarah's Mum watched on live link . Christmas 2018 , I got a beautifully bound copy done as a one off for me. I have it in front of me now. When James asked his Grandad Tom what Nana would like that Chridtmas this was Toms suggestion . I always like someyhing like this. Both James and Sian always just get things likenthis right. I treasure everything that I hold special.xxx

I've Loved you since "the Small Faces" and Thank God my Wife loved you too because when we met back in the 60,s I was determined to get a tape/recorder and 60's music to play on it..she shunned the Beatles and The Stones but when I played Rod Steward..she melted and I was "allowed" to play all the other incredible music of that Amazing time, now we are married 50 years with 15 grandchildren and one great-grandchild and we both still adore Rod Steward and love, love, his love of Ireland
Wow i was not expecting that not a bad job Rod well done i am impressed new found respect for you impressed, maybe its time for an Irish album nice one son
It was a terrible episode in history without a doubt, but it was the British not the English. Learn your history. I, think you’ll find that the Scottish regiments were pretty brutal.
আমাদের অবশ্যই স্বাধীনতার জন্য আকাঙ্খা করতে হবে......... Lyrics: As we gather in the chapel here in old Kilmainham Jail I think about these past few weeks, oh will they say we've failed? From our school days, they have told us we must yearn for liberty Yet all I want in this dark place is to have you here with me Oh Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love I place this wedding ring upon your finger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye Now I know it's hard for you my love to ever understand The love I bare for these brave men, the love for my dear land But when Pádraic called me to his side down in the GPO I had to leave my own sick bed, to him I had to go Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye Now as the dawn is breaking, my heart is breaking too On this May morn, as I walk out, my thoughts will be of you And I'll write some words upon the wall so everyone will know I loved so much that I could see his blood upon the rose Oh, Grace just hold me in your arms and let this moment linger They'll take me out at dawn and I will die With all my love I'll place this wedding ring upon your finger There won't be time to share our love for we must say goodbye For we must say goodbye
Hummm, yep, I wonder as well and you mean Sir Rod the holder of the a "British Empire" medal / honour? Isn't that the same "British Empire" the Irish were fighting against in 1916 and the CBE of course created by King George V no less who issued order 256 from Windsor Castle in April 1916 that allowed these great men to be executed without trial? And by Tory you really mean "The Conservative and Unionist Party" to give it its full title. At least there are still some out there who appreciate irony of this spectacle.
Pity rod murders another traditional song least he got it right for his royal loving cronies at buck house. Maybe sing his royal loving sweet Caroline at nx old firm game see whoo boos him of 1st .confused Londoner..
Pity you lot didnt see Rod on Graham Norton show He walked onto the show that had two Irish actors and called them Bloody Republicans and let us all know he was a staunch Royalist / Loyalist. For no reason he got stuck into the Irish fellas. Rod will do anything for money He is no Celt. Hypocrite! Rod hates republicans he made it clear on Graham Norton show.
Could you please post a link to that particular show as I cannot find it ? Rod Stewart is not liked by loyalists to say the least but perhaps they have also not seen the clip.
@@0857692872 read my comment above Rod Stuart is a hypocrite He was very nasty to two Irish actors on Graham Norton show He walked out saw them and said " Bloody Republicans I'm a Royalist " He kept going on at them they were guests on the show. He really embarrassed them. Rod has no time for the Irish only fools them sings Irish songs to get their money. Wake up ! Stop supporting him.
Rod sounded like a auld fella in the pub who had 8 pints of draughty Guinness and it’s just before closing time. Get him his coat the auld fella as drunk as drunk can be he’s going home taxi for Rod Stewart he used to be a singer you know.
