so uh, this material is pretty strong and lightweight. I want to make a jump box for working out out of said material but I don't know if it will work out. Thanks for this video! gives pretty good insight
Solid content! I am new to super 8 film world and would like to know more about it. I recently bought my own super 8 and the view finder has some fungus and would love to clean it my self. Would it be possible for you to list the tools you used on this video? Cheers!
spent an hour trying to rethread the lens back into the camera body, looks like it took you no time at all, eventually I just gave up. Was there any trick to screwing the lens back into the camera?
I owned one of these new, back in the day! I seem to remember that the phono sockets were always tight when I plugged cables in. It was almost like the sockets were slightly oversized. this may be the reason why you found some broken on this unit. Heat wise it is a poor design - I regularly found quite literally components desoldering themselves! Sound-wise, paired with the M85, it sounded glorious. Regardless of how difficult the room furnishings/acoustics were, the parametric controls could fine-tune out any problems
After popping off the label ring & unscrewing the tiny almost-hidden screw, I can't get past unscrewing the front shroud I've spent hours trying to unscrew it... even purchased a proper rubber tool and still can't loosen it Anyone have any tips?
Hi! Thanks excellent information, just one doubt: how exactly do you remove the front ring the cosmetic one, you mentioned that with tweezers but I’m stuck in this point, in all mi Leica lenses this part usually come of with my rubber tool and turning the thread or with a small screw under it please help! And thanks!
Nop! I couldn’t do it, I tried the same Method’s u plus a little alcohol and acetone with no success, I don’t know if there is an special technique to do it 🤨
i just purchased one of these, and bought two 625 wein batteries for the light meter, but i can’t seem to get the light meter to work, any ideas on a fix?
Jeeezzz youtube needs to promote this kind of channel instead of the Kardashians, onlyfans, and other stuff that is absolutely not important. Let's promote this.
took the first 3 screws out but i cant get the cap off the focus lens and it appears to be fixed down with adhesive, any suggestions on how to get it unstuck
I was concerned lately that the old "hot breath" method of lubricating the optical surface for cleaning was passe, or even "wrong", because none of the manufacturers recommend that practice. Instead they want to sell you some expensive concoction or impregnated tissues. A Google search recommended AGAINST this technique, but I was not convinced. Understand that I'm a Cinematographer and I'm mostly concerned with the front elements of lenses that cost as much as $40K or even $100K for zooms. I am greatly reassured by your empirical example in continuing to clean lenses with my own hot breath; I've found that it is still the best method, even for oily finger prints. FYI, I learned at the same time (early 70's) to use "nose grease" to lubricate tight lens mounts (especially CA-1 mounts on Eclair NPR's).
EDIT: digikey part number: 36-105-2-ND --- Can you post the digikey part number? I just got my leicaflex in and it needs the EXACT same fix. I opened up the battery compartment and the terminal just popped out.
I just wanted to say how useful this was to me. My summicron belonged to my dad and I would never have dared to take it apart if not for you showing us the way! Many thanks!
Whats the DigiKey part number for the contacts that you used? EDIT for anyone else with the question, I think its 36-105-2-ND, ordering some to try myself.
Hey, I do have dust or stuff in my camera lens (I mean when I put my eye in the scope, I can't see anything or the image is very dark) I don't think the lens is dirty but may be the upper part of the camera is full of dust ? do you have any recommendations ? thanks
What model ifixit kit is that?? I think they have the Mahi, Mako, etc... This video was very instructional. Thanks for posting it. I bought one of these Canon Zoom 518 Super8 cameras on eBay yesterday. The outer plastic lens bezel is bent. This video really explained well how you disassemble it. When my camera arrives later this week, I plan to follow your video and disassemble it. I hope I can bend it into shape. I will also clean the lens pieces once it is apart. Thanks!!
Great looking table! I'm really curious as to how your handmade carbon bike is holding up 6 years later? Did the frame survive? Did it have any problems?
Fantastic repair! I've never seen such chonky capacitors before. You take your life into your hands working around those! Looking forward to the next video.
I’m still riding it today! I would use a larger compression wrap on the carbon fibre when it’s curing. In this video I used electrical tape wrapped sticky side out, I would try to find some 3” wide tape if I was to do this again
Hello! My camera (318 zoom) has the opposite issue where the focus ring refuses to budge and the ring slid off after trying really hard to turn it :(( Any ideas on what to do? I was tempted to try WD40 on the outside but that feels too risky lol
Hey , I just got the canon 518 but it has baterry corroison on the battery compartment at the top and im afraid it wont work. What are the chances it works if i clean it out? To my point of view it seems liks it's probably damaged but im not sure.
Hey, I've just picked up one of these cameras and there is a triangle of metal inside the zoom portion of the lens. I can't quite tell if it is intentional or not. It almost looks like an aperture blade, but is fixed to a ring of metal that goes around the circumference of the inside of the lens. Do have this on your camera?
Hello! I have the Canon 518 SV super 8-camera with a really corroded battery compartment. Do you know how to remove the handle for a deep clean? Note that this is the SV version with a firm grip :D
