That square thing is a coin purse, with spaces for three different denominations of coins that would have once been under spring tension in those round slots. I'm assuming the springs are gone now. These coin purses were common accessories of women's fashion, especially during the late 19th century through to the 1920's. Based on the age of most of the other artifacts in the area and the style of the coin purse I would say it most likely dates to the 1910's - 1920's, but it could potentially be older. They were commonly made of silver plated brass, but some higher quality ones were made of 92.5% sterling or even 80% continental silver.
I wonder how many rare historic bottles were destroyed in the Halifax explosion just from the force of the pressure wave moving through the water. It seems like this bottle fared just fine.
This was my dad’s favourite coffee for years, well until my stepmum introduced him to a cappuccino, it looks like tar in a bottle, is a very dark syrup that smells if memory serves me right less bitter than a granulated coffee or percolated coffee. It was drunk in the family for years as is probably attested to by the old cottages rubbish heap where my grandparents lived. It’s still available over here but with the growth of the coffee experience it’s lost to being predominantly a flavouring as you said. ❤
Sean, the two bells are crotal bells from a horse harness. The shard with the ship on it was cool and the pipe stem. The container you put your finds in was perfect for holding all of your finds.👍😀👏
