Great bants guys, srsly. And good job recording in a swimming pool changing room! And fantastic work saying "memory" instead of "storage"! The hits: They keep coming!
The best hard drive, but arguably the worst IT company to deal with. Let me say straight away my experience of dealing with the parent company of G-Technology, Western Digital, has been a living nightmare. In my work as an independent film-maker I have owned G-Speed Shuttle XL and G-Raid Shuttle since 2017. The outlay for these large storage units has run in to thousands of Australian dollars. One particular storage has created long standing errors in the running of my Mac Pro; problems that Apple have been unable to solve, and Western Digital haven't begun to look at. In any event what I wish to say is should consumers of this high end product be living outside the US, and find the need for customer support, I suggest you do not rely on that offered by WD in India. Three days in a row I was promised a trouble shooting call back by senior engineers. Not one call eventuated. Moreover, the South Asian support staff did not read my emails containing essential information, and had no idea where WD are based in the US. If you work with digital technology you may have come to the conclusion Apple and Adobe are the living end in terms of providing effective, "live" customer support. I'm here to say Western Digital have given perhaps the shabbiest customer support I have experienced from any tech giant in twenty years.
I’m calling this paid promotion. It’s a bullsh!t product. My Shuttle keeps unmounting, freezing and loosing work. I would expect better from such an expensive product. In the process of returning it! It’s junk!!!!
Payed! no we ain’t that big…. we’ve had no issues with the two we own and yeah we had the same issues with the Mac mini M1 and the MacBook Pro M2 but all you have to do is download the driver and it works perfect, wouldn’t be able to comment on using with a PC we only use Mac’s. It sucks it hasn’t worked for you and really sucks you’ve lost work hopefully you’ve found something that works for you 👊🏻
Great video 👏 Presumably the shuttle is fine being powered on and off regularly as you take it on the road. I would keep it in my studio but don’t want that fan on when filming
recently updated from an intel mac to an mac studio m1 max with my g raid shuttle 32TB SSD raid. seems not to work anymore. it boots up after a hec of installation guides but always freezes. The finder in ventura or blackmagic speed test won't access it anymore and freeze up almost every time. any suggestion to solve the driver/Software problem?
I've ordered mine but as a few reviews has pointed out, there's something crooked about the front of the bag. I've seen two other reviews where it lookes scewed thanks to bad stitching etc. I can see that even your backpack is a bit warped or whatever we can call it.
Ain't a darn thing wrong with Backcountry Hicks. Trust me we're a lot smarter than you. I can tell by the way you ramble on 5 minutes in this video before you even start talking about the darn heater.
It’s platinum catalyst just like in a catalytic converters that makes it smolder an burn the vapors I also use white gas aka camp fuel an Vm&p naphtha that’s pretty much all lighter fluid is I work outside I’ve got a pile of warmers there my go to in the colder days
I don’t understand the pricing. The unit in a 72TB config (4 x Ultrastar HDD’s) is £5009. WD sell 4 x 18TB Ultrastar HDD’s as a bundle for £1,641.96. That means you’re paying £3,367.04 for a RAID enclosure and hardware.
We also think it expensive, and yes most of the cost is in the enclosure and hardware BUT when that enclosure and hardware keep our babies safe, potable and protected on the move, we defiantly think it’s worth it. This is a great hard drive and we reviewed it because we believe in it because we’ve put both of our units though every scenario others have and will fail… cheers for the comment, always looking for better options 👍
Hey guys. I'm thinking about getting this to replace my Drobo. I've read one comment that the fan doesn't ever turn off. Is that true? I'll have this in my bedroom where my workstation is. Also, is RAID 6 possible? Thanks!
Why its so large, the 2 drive is like just a cover for the drive, this one is like has a lot more space underthe drive, what is below there, power supply, needed becusse it has 4 drive? How about their Armorlock ssd model, it is same size as the pro model but doesnt has think speed, any reason for it to be so big when it has same ruggedness and speed of the smaller drive(they update it to be 1Gb/s instead the 0.5Mb/s you mentioned in the video), i like yellow color so I interested for the Armorlock but its quite big so i wonder should I get it when i just use it for my personal file and work too not gonna make use of the drive sharing hardware encryption fearure
For that price you can get a 10GBe NAS that you can store somewhere else so that you don’t have the insane noise of this thing next to you the whole time. Sure it’s fast. Sure it works great. There just are much better solutions on the market at that price point
@@NickPecori most shortcomings people find with their NAS is their own knowledge. There is a learning curve to using one properly and you need to get a fast one. There is nothing a DAS can do that a NAS can't. But there is a lot of features a NAS or SAN offer that a DAS can't that you need as a professional.
I totally agree NAS drives have there benefits, price being one of the big ones, I also agree with @nickpecori where NAS drives have there shortcomings and for us the biggest was portability and speed. We work in some out there places and most of the time connecting to a network is impossible. I’ve said it in another comment, there are lots of insane products out there it’s just finding the right one for you, we just back this product hasn’t let us down yet… cheers for the comment @Scottvisuals 👍
Guys you didn't mention read/write for the G-Shuttle formatted RAID 5 .In my scenario Via Thunderbolt 3 on my MacBookPro 16/64Max I get 400mb/s write 350mb/s Read (5gb Stress) instead the Drive Pro SSD 1TB its flies ...! How about you? thxxx
On paper they are so close it’s to hard to call. We’ve never used a LaCie 6Big so we wouldn’t be able to comment on how it runs. When it comes to looks and usability the G drive all day, our reasons why…in our eyes it’s hands down better looking, we know its rugged, because we’ve put it though it’s paces and what I have heard about the LaCie while researching drives are the LaCie 6Big is more commonly used in an office environment the G-drive is more suited to the run and gun type of creator. In short, it is totally down to your taste and what you want the drive to do, performance wise on paper they pretty much a match but in the real world we would have to get both side by side and really test them. I know this isn’t a defiant answer for you but we love the G-drive and would recommend it for sure. 🤙 hope this helps even a little bit …
