Thank you for this video..At 2:11 you started to play at the edge of the drum...cool..But I thought the snares were OFF...Supposedly this drum has a 42 strand snare wire. Seems like this particular brass shell is not sensitive, especially with those die cast hoops. This was super helpful.
I saw this video researching the drums and was turned off by the moving bass drum until I realized that the spurs are not balanced. I watched other videos and never saw this again - no hate - just wanted to point that out to everyone.
Thin snare drums can have a certain and surprising character. I have an old Pearl 13 x3 maple snare and love playing it although my main snare is 14 x 6.5
The new one has a bell that just doesn't cut, and doesn't really seem any drier or more crashable for it. Zildjian's obsession with making sure every K ride is crashable definitely hurts them.
What heads are on the batter side of all the kit including the bass batter head? I also was wondering if there was any processing or just a raw take with microphones Sound OK to me just wondering.
The heads are stock: coated Remos made overseas, Powerstroke type on the kick, Powerstroke or Pinstripe type on the toms. As with all of our videos, the mix is mostly overhead and room mics with no processing. We adjusted the EQ minimally on the kick and snare mics to capture anything that the overheads didn't. Obviously some compression is inherent to RU-vid.
