'O' level economics taught me that the way to improve a community was to put money into the hands of people that would spend it in their community. This is how money goes around - or back and forth as businesses trade with each other. This is why corporate business removing money from the circulating cash, and giving it to share holders can stall a trading economy.
Simple really. Landholders like to reap the benefits but not shoulder the burden of their responsibility. And how much landholders have to pay is decided by landholders. It's a conflict of interest. Landholders have no shame.
to add to some of your point, I think a very interesting example here is Lovecraft. he existed in a place and time where copyright law was very well established, but one of the big reasons Cthulhu has been able to grow into a well recognized and major horror icon, and one of the reasons his entire style of cosmic horror grew out from his influence so broadly and quickly was that he actively encouraged people to create new works based on his themes and ideas. rather than grasp tightly to his intellectual property, his works have attained a mythical status that typically take centuries in just the course of a few decades, and while he and his estate did still hold certain copyrights to the actual works created by Lovecraft himself, he didn't try to strangle hold the characters and ideas of his work as being his alone. also it's deeply tragicly ironic that the biggest defender of strict copyright is the same company that made its entire name and business off of utilizing works in the public domain, namely Disney.
You might want to compare this to paid expert witness testimony provided in court. Most experts have careers in their field and agree to provide testimony for some extra pocket change, and others become entirely employed as consultants providing testimony. Experts are still cross examined and their pay structure is fair game for the opposing side to query. Experts are also under oath and subject to perjury claims. Perhaps a more court like model will be necessary to distinguish news from propaganda.

Excellent political/economic/social program. I found it so informative. I live in Chicago which is the US's third (4th?) largest city. For decades Chicago has struggled with complex fiscal/social/racial/economic problems. One layer of complication is that Chicago finances are partly a function of financial legislation by the State of Illinois legislation. Chicago has huge representation in the State Legislature but the Chicago delegation does not control the legislature.
18:59 Yea good luck with that! My mum has tried to do this and so have I n quite a few other people I know but they never pay out to fix your vehicle due too the roads being so bad n they know it. Go n ask any garage n they'll tell you just how much damage a pothole can do n how much it costs to repair it. My car's been damaged countless times and one of them destroyed both my tires n alloys which cost £2000! You can probably guess that I didn't get a single penny from the council to help put some money towards it 🤬 I've sent loads of pictures n talked to the council about all these dangerous potholes n craters in the road but they don't give a flying duck because it costs them to much to repair them. I always swerve to avoid potholes to protect my tire's, alloy's, suspension and steering components. I've ever got a sticker on the back of my car which says "I’m not drunk. I'm avoiding potholes." Someone actually died not that long ago because of a pothole and you can guess what the council did straight away afterwards? They "repaired" it. People had been telling them for so long about it n they did nothing! Why does it have to get to the point where someone has to DIE! before they do anything???? 😡 Whoever was in charge n knew about it but did nothing NEEDS to be in prison for manslaughter. I'm 99% sure Medway council has been bankrupt for quite some time now.

Biggest spends in local authorities is childrens and adults social care. Both have large demographic increases. Long term weve known about the number of older people increasing, so need for more money. Cuts since 2010 and change to formula used to allocate council funding. Councils urged to make their own money leading them into risky areas they arent very good at like running shopping centres! Govt also stopped auditing councils which would have picked up issues early.
There's a lot of over-simplification in this video. It fails to mention that the UK now imports a lot of energy (iincluding gas) and there has been government (regulatory) intervention that has actually prevented a proper free market that would have kept down prices. There's also little mention of the effects of the war between Russia and Ukraine on the European energy market.
It's actually weird that I've spent my life looking at global macro issues and never had this kind of visibility in micro issues as well especially with the internet and social media masking the details. This is so crazy....

People never understand that if you don't have a state own back up to provide a competition to private own business, the private own business will always become monopoly and won't going to provide any effort to make better service.

This leads eventually to unemployment, poverty, and social unrest among those who are displaced from their roles in the production process. In essence, while productivity might increase under capitalist systems, it comes at a cost for individuals or groups, who struggle to find jobs to earn money. Jobs exist for the purpose of generating more money from money, but not for providing employment.
