So, obviously, sincere apologies to anyone who this might have offended. And, thank you to those who (all very gently) let me know that this is the case.

Yes, and it's really hard to stop. Specially if someone else keeps telling you that you are superior and others are lesser. And if even the state says it, and all the posters say it, and the flags and the crowds say it... It must be true. Even on a small scale, say you are slighted at the food market, by... A woman, a black man or... Pretty much anyone with different features than yourself, and sometimes not even that. And in the moment you think this person to be your lesser, because "what would a WOMAN know.." or "Of course a BLACK man would..." These small tiny biases that you might not even think about exists in others too, and when these biases get together in an echo-chamber, it leads to death, be that by fascism or socialism.

@Hasan Piker there's a simple solution here, conservatives should act in good faith and learn to spot dog whistles, because if they were actually against fascism, it would really help them to understand what fascist dog whistles are, what they look like/sound like, and what makes a dog whistle work in the way it does. It would help deal with the pesky issue of cryptofascism. Because whether or not you're gonna try to tie fascism to left wing dialogue, you should at the very least understand the tool. Sadly this is a bad take from this video. While there were indeed people who were violently forced to it, most didn't have to be. Nazi party grew to something like 30-40% popularity before it even got to the point that it could point guns at people. It was the slippery slope down the dehumanization path that led people to believe they were doing the right thing while committing atrocities. That famous poem "first they came for the X" is a part of this too. The rhetoric starts more mellow and soft but gets progressively harsher and harsher, and people tend to rather twist their worldview than believe they were hoodwinked into something so horrible. We have letters from the early wartime with police officers trying to convince their wives (and themselves) that it was very necessary work to slaughter women, children and infants for the "greater good". It's even more relevant today with fascism again on the rise and people again being hoodwinked into supporting it. Thus it's ever more important to tell people that it's not just horrible people and forced obedience that created Nazism, it was the regular folk too. It all starts and ends with slippery slope conservative right wing talking points and slowly escalates down the rabbit hole.

Though I have to warn you, it hasn't only been from "right wing" talking points; I've had to cut myself off from most of my left-wing friends over the years after being disturbed by how quickly they turn to dehumanization and ideas for genocide, all in the name of the "greater good" against their "conservative opponents". I think that's part of the reason why there is such a huge push against LGBT (especially the T) folks lately, because they focus so much on how "deviant" queer sex lives are, that they sexualize every interaction a gay person has. Which is why they get so angry when gay or trans people interact with children. They only see queer people as sexual deviants, so when they interact with children, they see it as inherently sexual and get outraged. It doesn't matter if it is the most benign interaction ever, they see gay = sex and get outraged.

However, America did not fall into Fascism then, just as it is not about to now. The state itself is an inherently authoritarian concept, of course, so in that sense its current neoliberal phase, that has lasted since the 70s at least, should strike parallels with any other authoritarian.

The second ones are generally called liberals, because the actual name of this line of though is "Liberalism" americans just messed the concepts. Classic liberalism means capitalism, but with unlimited liberty, freedom of speech, etcetera. Classic liberals were predominantly businessmen, traders, industrialists, and were the first ones to condemn slavery and I consider myself one. The current meaning for the word "Liberal" in the US is a misconception.

Personally, I lump religion together with all other human illusions, that even atheist believe in, like free will. It gets worse though. Have you heard of solipsism? The idea is that none of us has a proof that anyone but ourselves is even conscious. Meaning that we all live our lives assuming without any evidence that we are not alone in this universe. So, if one of the fundamentals of our existence is based on a convenient assumption, who are we to judge the religious?

One way to "prevent radicalization" is to not work to destroy the economy and the moral fabric of a society.

You can't "deradicalize" any significant part of any ideological movement without violence. To think so is blatantly egotistical. The concepts of fascism are mainly deeply rooted within one's personality. Same thing goes with communism. It actually has little to do with ideas. The only people who you'll ever convert to your side are the intellectually and self understanding weak people who only join movements to fit in. Those are not people who you want on your side.

And I don't know if this needs to be said but the cause of radicalization is obviously alienation. People who are on the hunt constantly for like minded friends and a place to fit in will find radical communities appealing. The real way to end this push to the extreme is to give kids a sense of community and belonging. It's simple enough on paper but a herculean task in practice

I guess it's a better example of how people are radicalized from these 'potential' personalities.

Fascism is inherently anti-individualistic. Group identity is elevated above all else. In America, individualistic ideals are utilized by fascists. It’s sort of a bait and switch because the failings of marginalized people are blamed on individuals’ choices as opposed to their circumstances and then the patterns of individuals’ choices are used to essentialize negative traits to justify bigotry.

I would have found that survey very hard too. However I think that these problems are slowly but steadily fading away, the Us is becoming oil independent and with the increase of green energy we can avoid many large scale energy shortages caused by such blockades. It is a very big problem and should be worked against, but I think the rate of globalisation in the future will slowly decrease naturally. Your second point about globalism however is one I disagree more with. Mass immigration is, sorry to say, bullshit, yes millions of people have come to Europe and especially Germany but the only negative effect this had on the nation was an unnecessary extreme surge in extremist politics. Yes, people born in Syria will work for a smaller wage than those born in Germany, yes, they will live in german houses and consume german products, but to say that all of this is somehow destroying the livelihoods of locals is plainly wrong. Germany has a very highly educated population, which means that there is low competition in the construction industry or other “simple” jobs. These immigrants mainly occupy jobs, which most of Germans don’t want to do, or can’t do anymore, and thanks to them don’t need to do anymore. Also no, they can’t really afford lower wages just because they speak Arabic, they too have to live in german cities and buy german groceries, maybe they have lower standards, but then it’s really not their problem but us being lazier or more spoiled. Also, I think you highly overestimate the amount of migrants. 1.5% of Germanys population are refugees, which is nothing compared to the amount of Germans living in Switzerland. I can’t say if it was a net positive, null, or negative for western countries to let them in but even if it was negative, I think you exaggerate. Also, sorry but to say that to let them in and work here is unfair is highly inhumane. What exactly era they supposed to do? Stay? Their home is wrecked by war, famine, disease or the climate (mostly caused by the aftermath of western imperialism or climate change)! come here but not take on jobs? Good luck paying those taxes to keep them alive! Go somewhere else? Then the French gotta deal with them! They do not have the option but to come here, earn their living and maybe keep their families in Egypt afloat. To say that them coming here is unfair, considering our ancestors are the reason they can’t stay is inhumane! However, I agree that what dares to call itself social democratic in most of modern-day politics can go fuck itself in their golden bathtubs or actually do something for our education or homelessness. that’s the reason I want to go into politics, doing actual socialism! And yes, I agree that we don’t need billionaires! I agree that globalisation somewhat leads to a dependence on the national socialist workers party of China and its friends but again, this dependence will probably start to fade in the near future. Though sometimes actually shipping megatons of meat from Argentina is actually better for the environment than growing cattle in Bavaria (tho we absolutely shout stop eating cattle) (also they should probably not burn square kilometres of forest on their way) but that aside it’s not only cheaper but sometimes even more eco-friendly, you underestimate the sheer amount of goods, a single ship is able to transport. Also, Germany dumps megatons of grain into the ocean yearly, just because its cheaper than selling it to Nigeria… yes, we can sustain ourselves in most fields. The story about the ash tree is new to me but it makes sense so I’ll give you that. I agree that the situation in Africa is dire and that for most people, living there seems to be horrible, but I think we often overestimate the horrible things in life. Of course life in Africa is objectively worse than in Denmark but I advise you to watch the latest video from Geography now on life in the CAR. To argue whether or not socialism, globalism, capitalism or imperialism are good or bad for the continent or how good or bad they are is at the moment to high for me, I’m still just a freshman history student, so I wont jump into that argument for now. Globalism has its fair share of problems but think about a life where we would have to rely on the quality of german computer chips or german food or german people. Walking through the streets just seeing white, blonde people, not eating Pizza or Kebab or Sushi, not watching Anime or Hollywood but just Till Schweiger and Bares für Rares. Globalism has its problems but IMO the pros highly outweigh the cons!

@@scienceium5233 the creator of the video he linked subscribed Sargon of Akkad and has a video about the antisemitism of Karl Marx (a jew btw), I think the chances of sources and valid argumentation are quite low...

Later in this book, there's a lot of discussion of childhood (most of the researchers had some background in psychoanalysis and its traces are all over the book). I'm the same in being a bit undecided as to how useful I think the "blame it on the parents" approach is, although I think the broader ways in which a person's personality is shaped by the society they live in are vital to interrogate. I'll try and take a look at Grille's book if I get a chance at some point, thanks for the recommend!

Bob Altmeyer found something similar. He noted such personalities often manifests in kids raised by stern parents who take a "Because I said so," approach and emphasize that the world is a dangerous place they need to be tough to protect those children from, their parenting style quite likely being informed by their own authoritarianism. If the kid breaks the rules at some point and finds themselves worse off, it tends to reinforce the authoritarianism, and if the kid breaks the rules and finds that things weren't as bad as their parent said, it tends to weaken the authoritarianism. Other things which weakened authoritarianism were distance from family and exposure to more people in the out-group (such as is often the case at universities) while some things that strengthened it were threats from outside and having children of their own (both things which might induce new kinds of fears that make a person more sensitive to potential threats.)

@@MatPost In this case, it's whomever is raising you and the community they raise you in. For example, a strict religious family who treats adoption as a kind of evangelism and tries to raise those kids in isolation from secular influences would count even if they're not blood-related.
