The many times he offers to get Luchessi instead of Fortunado, are designed so that when Fortunado is chained up with nowhere to go, he can suffer more thinking about his chances to escape his fate & ignored them… Montressor is dark…
I think the scene in the bookies is noteable for being the only sequence in Bottom without Rik Mayall. Eddie, Spudgun, Harry the Bastard, all of them are brilliant, but the energy goes up a level again when Mayall is back on screen in the pub.
I really liked this poem and I couldn't have imagined a better telling of it. I'm almost sitting here in amazement. Vincent Price really remains such a treasure. I'm glad his work can be remembered for years to come
Vincent Price is a master at his craft Edgar Allan Poe was a genius. But the thing that's killing me is the stupid commercials get rid of them. I leave when the commercial comes on.
Someone explain the bit where rik says "well why don't you live in the Soviet Union then" and spudgun says "cause it doesnt exist" . I mean wtf was that about? Another bloody pommy injoke about a few more seagulls and farmers and margaret thatcher referenced by Mrs potato earlier? I just don't get that joke. I don't think anyone else here does either!!! Whilst bottom was good, there was a lot of bs in-jokes but thank god not as much bs as the young ones pommy in jokes.
By the time this episode aired, the Soviet Union had broken up, so it didn't exist anymore. Mrs. Potato was making a reference to the Falkland's War of 1982.
