If I'm not wrong he did a film version of this. The police show up at the door and he tries to act normal until he loses it. He made so many Poe movies and was brilliant in all of them.:o)
I really liked this poem and I couldn't have imagined a better telling of it. I'm almost sitting here in amazement. Vincent Price really remains such a treasure. I'm glad his work can be remembered for years to come
I have only just started reading Edgar Allen Poe and this was the first story i read. I love it and Vincent Price is absolutely amazing acting that out. He had major talent.
I loved Poe ever since I saw the Simpsons version back when I was around 10 but hearing Vincent Price narrating Poe/acting Poe out etc is just simply perfect.
Mr. Price, how I miss you so! I wish to have met you once but alas my age denied me so. May you rest in eternal peace as your legacy lives on. Forever you are alive!
Obviously Edgar Allan Poe is a genius and one of the most influential writers ever, but this is a performance of Vincent Price. I think that may be the reason why so few comments relate to Poe. I have to agree - the story is amazing, but Vincent Price narrating it is another story in itself.
I love Vincent Price and Edgar Allan Poe. The ending is the best because he gets REALLY into it. This is my favorite. He gets more excited in this than Cask of Amontillado.
Thank you very much for sharing this. :) Superb acting by Vincent Price! I never saw this rarity before. E. A. Poe is one of my favorite writers since I was a child, after I heard the "Tales Of Mystery And Imagination" LP by Alan Parsons Project which is dedicated to Poe´s work.
amazing!! i love the way that Vincent Price tells the stories of Edgar Allan Poe he captures all the feeling in them i love his voice is perfect "here!!... here!!... it is the beating of his hideous heart!!"
When I was younger I was fascinated by a certain gentleman. He wrote morbid tales of psyche and horror. Another gentleman I was intrigued with was an actor, who was able to capture the thoughts, the horror, the psyche, he was able to channel the mind of the writer, and portray it to the metaphorical tee. This actor once did a show on television (or a movie, twas a long time ago), and I saw this portrayal as well as others. I was in horror heaven. Thank you so much for sharing this!
This was a television series that was on when I was in 6th grade. I was about 11. It used to scare the shit out of me!! It was so good though. He is an amazing actor and Poe an amazing writer.
oh my gosh wat a gr8 performance. he really made the guy crazy! i love it! im doing it for my speech meet, and i think this is the best ive seen and heard!!
when you throw tim burton in the mix of the two all ready great men, you get the BEST short movie in the world. vincint maloy. they are all sooo great!
I am practicing this one to do for my Scouts at a campfire soon. Though I could never, ever get anywhere close to the "maestro's" interpretation here. Vincent Price was a master at interpreting Poe. And this is my favorite Poe story.
Edgar Allen Poe is such an amazing writer and I love him and learn his stories at school but I do just want to add that his story characters are normally the stars of my nightmares...
It makes you wonder if he had dementia or he had delusions but a slim grasp of reality and then once he began to have a concrete object in real life to fixate upon the other man's glass eye he developed an obsession where he finally had a true break with reality. This was a masterful story of losing oneself to madness while you in the beginning are aware you should not find something or someone so threatening yet unable to stopping the delusion from taking over your whole life and mind. It is a heartbreaking tale because the narrator is struggling to hold onto a slender thread of his sanity and he can't stop his progression into true madness, all while appearing as if nothing is wrong. What makes this story so good is the man fights so hard against his delusion even as he begins to lose himself in the struggle.
I saw this same story portrayed 35 years ago on some talkshow. Darren McGavin did the reading and it was so incredibly gripping. Vincent Price does an amazing job here.
