My initial thought was that you're only supposed to rub half the needle. I asked chatgpt and it said to determine North use a compass. Haha Or if the magnet has a North and South pole, point the North end at both ends of the needle, the side that is repelled is North. I think this is just more of a science experiment as opposed to a survival technique. The stars or the sun would probably be used in a survival scenario. It's easy to determine North and South with a stick and observing the shadow.
These were originally made from strips of bamboo. If they are made of paper, how long will they last? And will they be "waterproof"? (Won't be able to use it under water.)

To burn, a flame needs oxygen. If you remove the Oxygen , you extinugish the fire. long story short, find an aproppriate metal utensil (for exaple an epty can of beans, slightly bigger than the stove) and cover the stove completely so that the oxygen is used up. in a few seconds the fire will be out .
