Many people used this method after HURRICANE MARÍA. To warm up canned food. I made mine with cooking oil. Made hot soup ever night for my daughter and I. Great idea. Thank you.
@@ReasonAboveEverything yes I did. I had a rope of cotton wet with the oil came out of the top part of cap which I made a hole on the cap. I'm sorry that I loss all my pictures that makes me sad. But I'm more sad that hurricane season starts on the 1st if June. God bless us all. Thank you Man of the north.
All the negitive comments. How rude. The person actually could save someone from starving or freezing. Or fuck, just having a hot cup of coffee if the power is out. People are not thankful or greatful for anything anymore. I appreciated it and thank you. May the shills wash up in cold water if its not ice and drink cold soup if they have any at that time. simply because they are jerks. The times are coming and any info you may receive appreciate it. It could save your life or a life of someone you love.
Shu I appreciated your comment but not the f bomb. We are showing less respect for God, other people, especially children, and even ourselves when we have to resort to cursing instead of a more expressive word. I used to b able to out curse any man and had no shame about it. But its been many decades since I learned how important it is to show respect in my language. If I quit u can too!!! Happy Face! Bless u
Actually, their is a reason why this RU-vidr did what he did. Alcahol is extremely flammable, therefor it burns out quickly. If you watch carefully, you'll see that big flame dies out about 5 seconds later. This home made stove prevents all the alcohol from being burned at once by using the fumes instead. It's basically a giant lighter.
I used a penny stove on my Appalachian trail hike. super lightweight, small and reliable. Best part is they’re cheap to make, so if it gets messed up, it cost 50 cents and 5 minutes to make a replacement.
oh wow!! this had me in complete awe from start to finish! how ingenious and creative!! I can't wait to show my teenager and her friends this awesome (and handy) concept..thx so much for taking the time to make this vid for everyone my friend..cheers to u!!
Love it! ♥️ However, my ancestors have always cooked without gas and electricity lol... Wood and rocks were their methods. Still to this day; most people in Samoa are using this method.
Awesome! That looks like the "Trangia" an expensive but well worth the price back packing stove, made in Sweden, I bought 20years ago, which I no longer have. It ran on denatured alcohol. Thank you for posting!
Interesting. A DIY Sterno can...now you need at least two or more a chafer and you'll be cooking anything in no time. And so YES, Ms comment below, you can cook fried chicken with this idea AND NO Mr comment below there is no gas fuel in this idea since he is using Ethanol, which is essentially a chemical compound made from simply... 🌽! If you just so happened to be reading the bottle he used as his fuel it said "Alcool Etilico", which is Brazilian/Portuguese for Ethanol. Ethanol in it's pure form is a clear flammable liquid, unlike gas which contains oil compounds. So, overall this idea is clever and environmentally efficient AND YES, it can cook/heat anything in no time, however, patience is a virtue! Good video! Thanks for posting! 😀👍
Test it before you need it. The one I made exploded in my face. I had a face shield on, so I was not injured. However, for a few seconds I was on fire.
I think I made the holes for the burner to small. Also it happened when I moved it. It may have been that the fuel inside sloshed up onto the hot burner. My advice would be to test it in a safe manner.
Honestly it's kinda common sense that you don't actually need a strike of a match to light up the next fire. You just need the surrounding temperature to exceed a certain level. But yeah I gotta admit, I kinda forgot about this common sense because I don't actually use it.
I noticed you had to pre heat the bottom. and you used 90 % ethanol. We used HEET, no preheating needed. Ethanol is more hygroscopic than other, so the water content gets more specially on an open container. Methanol is also a good fuel but need safety precautions. Later makers insert a liner at the bottom others fill the cavity with Fiberglass wool. Both makes the burning smoother.and seem to last longer.
Just a tip to add to this video. The center hole under the penny needs to be a bit bigger that the other 4. Also you don’t want to use any penny that’s newer that 1982. Because of the zinc.
@@jonmacdonald5345 You are what is wrong with this world. Thinking people have to be like you and judge life to your standards. Saying I'm below you and you don't know me. If I want to leave a positive comment I will. Like I said, this is genius.
How many times in your life have you found yourself in an emergency where you have in hand 1) alcohol 2) 2 empty soda cans 3) a lighter 4) a mullet 5) a pin and 6) a coin Like who the fuck is the poor person that carries all of that plus an electronic device with access to the internet and can't find something else to put on fire more efficiently, or easily?! Real life isn't a McGayver movie..! Especially real, poor life! Edit: I forgot to count the cutter. If you even have just that and a lighter you can go outside and pick up things that will be much more useful for making a fire! The fucking soda-can heater is for the poor man's fondue - at best!
By the time the video finished, my baby boy completed his graduation, got a job, married his college sweetheart , bought a house, had 3 kids, they grew to be the most beautiful grandchildren a grandmom like me would ever wish for... I would have written more, but, I died peacefully the night I celebrated my 100'th birthday 👀👀👀
How about putting bigger candles in a stainless steel sink and using a glass cutting board over the candles and setting cooking pots or pans on it? Glass will get hot, even a tin, aluminum etc cooking pan over the candles in a full sink would heat multiple food items. Just saying...
Great and fairly simple trick. I have some German Army hexamine* stoves and a few other 'just in case' methods. The flint and steel striker should be in everyone's home; easy to use, with a little practice and these things can save lives. (*Never use hexamine indoors; the fumes are LETHAL)
0:08 replace the pencil with a razor blade & you'll save a lot of time cutting, just hold the razor with your thumb & spin the can a few times to score the aluminum, then press into the score mark with your thumb and it should break quite easily.

Only question I have is how long would the flames last with the amount of alcohol you used? Or if it would explode if you exposed it to the heat long enough to start it up? Great Video!
You will be amaze at how long you will be able to cook on one of these things with just a little bit of fuel. I cooked for maybe an hour with about 3 ounces of denatured alcohol before it went out on its own. You start it with a lit match or lighter and what burns are the fumes that rise from the top of the fuel.
Genius wow thanks for the sharing we have some perilous times coming this could help a lot of people pay attention folks! God bless you honey this is priceless information! 👍😘💙
The producer is Brazilian, it's normal here to do cheap things at home instead of buying all the time... I am not saying this is good.nor bad... regards
