The kreh loop isn't as strong as a cinching knot like a uni. The split ring lets it flop around anyway. I'd either pull the ring off to tie the kreh loop, or leave it on and tie a uni knot, or take it off and uni knot a powerclip so I can change between spoons / gotcha plugs / whatever with the powerclip replacing the split ring and it stays with the leader instead of with the lure.
Has anyone or am I the only one with the 5’ 6” fishing rod wanting to do those surf fishing. I’m a beginner but I dont know if it’ll be enough to cast one out there with a weight and bait on it.. let me know any advice I’m open minded
Hey! That is 100% the point of this video. Pick a great day and get out with what you have. Once you master that, spend the money if you want for some bigger gear.
@@dtylerpaul thanks a lot. I seem to heard him say 6 ft and so I was like damn mine a lot more smaller than that LOL, but I might’ve missed heard him if he did say that part.. thanks a lot for replying. Take care brotha
I have a 1993 2120 Robalo as well. I am interested in refurbishing it. I'd love to pick your brain. The first question is did you have to replace the fuel tank?
Awesome! Pick away! love my Robalo and am so happy I brought it back to life. I was worried about the same thing when I started considering refurbishing it. I had to swap some fuel lines a few years back before the refurb due to a leak, but never had to replace the tank. No issues so far with that approach for me.
@tightlineshightides4599 sorry for not getting back sooner. Wife had surgery and i put this on the back burner. Shes doing well now though. I have 100 gallons on board still after 8 years of sitting. I'm assuming the tank is fine. I tried pulling the fuel line out with a string attached to it. Fuel line came out easy but the string pulled off. How did you get yours thru? I still have the original 290 hp 2 stroke on it which ran perfect when i left it behind in our move. I'm struggling with replacement, rebuild, or new.
Thanks! I appreciate the view. The rods in this video are all ones that I built. The 1st one is a 7' 6" heavy action fast action rod that I built for walking the beach. Its on the bigger side for tossing large lures going after bigger species. Let me know if your interested in one, I can put you one together. For braid I usually run 20# most often. I find it the best all around size for most surf fishing. There are applications that I would go larger, but for 90% of my fishing its 20#.
that would be sick! But to your point, there is more risk of breaking off with the smaller gear. However there are infinitely more chances of catching fish with light gear vs not fishing at all.
Thats right! Instead of avoiding fishing all together because you don't have gear for every condition, pick a good day and fish with what you have. Thanks for the view and comment! Tight Lines!
dumb question have a 11ft rod size 6500 diawa bg use it at Cape Cod Canal have 40lb braid and 60lb mono leader will this be fine with Carolina rig this all I got first time going and just wanna catch anything that bites
My dad surf fished with a 5-ft jigging rod with an Ocean City baitcaster conventional reel on it throwing 4 oz pyramid sinkers on dacron line. No joke! He bought it in the 1950s. He passed away over 30 years ago. But I still have that fishing rod. And yes he caught fish with it. Used it both for saltwater and freshwater fishing.
Hello, what is your recommendation for this type of fishing in relation to the size of the rod, the action and the weight it supports? Thanks! Best Regards!
Hey, fishing family, I throw an 8 ft med/heavy diawa spinning reel and it works perfectly for my C-rig fishing and drop shot fishing for Barred Surf perch and Halibut along the Baja California coastline, also I fish for 10+ hour's a day when I am beating the Surf and a lighter rod saves my shoulder, keep that in mind on long sessions and throwing 2 ozs of sliding egg weights all day, great video and I think that it really gives new comers courage to take up th most beautiful way of fishing, the mystery of the Surf, Please better blessed, tight lines everyone
Are those fish bites? I used a double drop rig from a pier in florida one hook had live shrimp the other had shrimp fish bite, i got more hits on fishbite
yes! I use these ALL the time. So convenient on the beach because I rarely have to check bait between bites. Also, just like you said, i have seen fish pass up shrimp and hammer the fishbites.
Passive we call bait and wait and active we call lure, I’ve got a 10ft rod that I like to do bait and wait with and a 7ft rod I do lure fishing with but will also do some bait and wait, all depends on conditions and what I’m targeting
I caught so much fish with a $30 6'6" diawa from Walmart with 8lb mono and a 15lb mono leader. Keeper flounder, striped bass, bluefish, and many others just jigging with some Walmart jig heads and Berkeley gulps, sounds crazy but I really feel like if you go out with a good vibe you'll catch more, they feel that shit in the line lol
I would check your local regulations. Where I am there is a general rule not to have more than you can manage. For me, on a good day, its about 4 lines out. I also say, independent of whats legal, its important to be considerate of the other people sharing the beach. If its crowded i tend to scale down to let others cover some ground.
....Great friendly & knowledgeable video...Here in Old Naples Florida we prefer the Kas Master as well ( $8 a pop ) I'm surprised you release one of the most "Omega" filled fish like Sammon...One thing about fishing for Mack, if they are in a large school they will hit on almost any kind of cheaper lure... ...Old Naples Florida Pier 🌴🐟🎨 3/12/2024
Ironically some of this video describes that, indeed you do need a bigger rod for surf fishing. Ie weather conditions, wave size etc. But all going well and providing you have perfect weather conditions etc etc etc.... Basically a longer rod outshines a small rod in every department.
yep, you are correct. But, if you dont have the big rods, you don't have to go break the bank to get on the water. Pick a good day and fish with what you have on hand
I have 9 feet rod but only can cast maximum 50Gram sinker , if you cast more than 50gram, maybe the rod will be break, so i sell that 9 feet rod an buy 6 feet rod and yes maybe for you its downgrade but its not, the 6ft rod have better spec can cast 120gram sinker, minimum is 50G ,now i can use heavy singker and can cast far than my first 9ft rod
Hi This is Jorge from Spain, I bought a R- 190 and I want install a T-top. Your’s it’s really cool, which brand is it ? Thanks you have a great boat ! 😊
I always wondered why the eye end of the hook was angled back (snell). I wasn’t sure if it was for bait presentation, maybe it didn’t spin or move around as much when your reeling in. Now I know. Thanks
We fish for red snapper out of Louisiana a lot. Been using the owner reef and rig circles. They’re legal in every gulf state and meet the requirements for reef species.
Just curious how these rods and reels would hold up to a 50 pound black drum? Or something even larger. Would it completely ruin a rod and reel such as this?
ruin, no, as long as you have your drag set correctly. However, you might struggle quite a bit fighting a 50lb drum. I wish I had this problem... To your point, i have also hooked a monster shark with my big surf rods and he about spooled me. I tried to slow him down by palming the reel, just ended up breaking him off. There are always cases where your gear might be a little small for the job. However, I have found that the more common case is that your gear is too big for the fish most commonly caught in the surf. Thanks for the comment! Tight Lines!
no worries. I appreciate the view and comment. I acknowledge that i should have done better with the trimmings. A lot of people pointed that out and it is always on my mind now.
