One of the best artificial lures you can use while surf fishing is the spoon. It is versatile, easy to use, durable, affordable, and effective! I have caught more fish from the beach using a spoon over any other artificial lure that I have in my tackle box.
Of all the spoons on the market, there has been one that stands above the rest recently which is the Kastmaster by Acme Tackle Co. This spoon is highly aerodynamic which means you can efficiently cast it a long way, which is critical for surf fishing.
In this video, we show you exactly why the Kastmaster spoon is so effective and go over our setup when using it.

Just a suggestion. Collect your offcuts line in a little plastic bag instead of just cutting it and let it drop in the sand. Us fisherman are under immense pressure from the greenies as it is.

Good suggestion. Even better, i like to use these reusable stasher bags for a lot of stuff i carry to the beach so i can avoid the plastic bags.

I was just thinking the same, every little piece of plastic trimmings, torn up lures, etc I try to capture even if it's just in my pocket. That stuff adds up and I just think it's good manners.

I've had other BPM baits ru-vid.comUgkxCbNOWAGmn6nfbCbJDmasvBq7J38KZNw2 before and they've pretty much always came through for me with the suskie smallies here and even with the walleye and pike, but I realized I didn't have an "in-between" pattern so this junebug one fills that role in no problem. it pairs up magnificently with a junebug Zoom Z-craw Jr that was trimmed a couple millimeters before the hook slots and rigged sideways for that fatter panfish side profile while still being a nice'n'compact presentation, a real power-finesse bait. Hell, it was so pretty I even bothered to fotosketch the pic into a watercolor painting image just to show you it's beauty! Even the blades are really well made, sure, they're not of Hildebrandt-level exquisiteness but look at the bead's reflection on the colorado blade, definitely well-made! The only "problem" spot it had was a bald spot in the skirt but it was nothing that I couldn't easily fix with a but of tuggin'n'shiftin' with the strands for a couple of seconds, besides that it is pretty minty!

Great outfit down there and there are several other great guide outfits. Haha so yah I am promoting them but the Spanish Mackerel! Now THAT was a fun catch! They just slam it and run! Just a tip, part of the reason you might have been broken off was the loop knot. They aren't as strong as a normal knot like the Palomar knot. And since there's a split ring, the loop knot is kinda redundant in terms of action.

From my experience id bet the break off was more likely the Spanish Mac biting the line rather than the lure, happens a lot with the jerking motion of the lure. They're not very accurate from my experience, lost a lot of lures pier fishing for them ha.

@@tightlineshightides4599 actually I am not a "brand minded" guy for any lures that I have, but for salt water spoon fishing I use my 30g silver chrome Halco Twisty Jig. Also in spoon fishing, I always use a high speed ratio 6.2:1 spinning reel. Just cast your spoon let it sink all the way, or at least until it reach the middle of the water depth, engage the reel than crank it as fast as you can. Pelagic fish like Mackerels, queenfish, barracuda they like to chase fast moving shiny object. Happy fishing 👍😁🙏

Great video, I learned a lot. This is my first summer salt water fishing (been bass fishing years though). My first salt water rod was 7 feet, then I bought a 10 foot surf rod to fish on actual beaches. If I’m going somewhere with waves and surf, should I just leave the 7 foot rod at home cause I can’t passed the surf? In other words, can fish be caught in the surf and waves? If I have a bottom rig in my surf rod is it worth throwing a spoon into the waves with my 7 foot rod? Or is that a waste of time? Thanks!
@tightlineshightides4599
@tightlineshightides4599 8 месяцев назад
Bring it! 2 lines out is better than one so why not try to increase the odds. If it is too rough and your line is getting pushed everywhere and getting all twisted, then reel it back in... no harm done.

Great Surf Fishing. I am big into Contrast, when it comes to lure Color. I bet if you blacken th top portion edge, say 3/8 " , with felt marker , you will ketch more fish. Minnows obviously have dark backs , and this will give off a silhouette shadow as it , rocks and flashes through the water. It gives the appearance of a minnow titlting,swimming out of Rythem. Try Blue silver Kastmasters as well, and Gold on overcast days. Yes try the Polymer Knot. The Braid isnt necessary, I would just use a Quality Mono line , add a ," AQUATICO INVISISWIVEL , actually a florocarbon swivel, not Kidding!, and the a Short leader and your Kastmaster of choice.

Do you think 3/8 or 1/2 oz will work?
@tightlineshightides4599
@tightlineshightides4599 Год назад
If you can get it out to there, it can catch fish. The problem with the lighter weight ones is getting it out there against the wind, and working it back against the waves/current.

do you use a swivel with that spoon?
@tightlineshightides4599

I normally would, in general it is best practice. However, with surf fishing, i have never really had much issue with twist so no swivel works ok too.

Question...why are you tying the spoon directly to the line? Not to a swivel?
@tightlineshightides4599
@tightlineshightides4599 Год назад
I don't find you need a swivel for this application. The spoon isn't really spinning much, if at all, at the retrieval rate I use. I flutters more than anything. Now, if im trolling or something with a spoon, that is a different story. In the end it is personal preference. In my opinion either configuration is correct.

I do use a leader. I run braided line as my main line then attach a fluorocarbon leader to that using an FG knot.

How long is your leader??
@tightlineshightides4599
@tightlineshightides4599 10 месяцев назад
I usually have around a 4' to 6' leader with this setup. I tie a pretty tight FG knot and I don't mind the knot running through the guides. However, i also don't want the knot to make it all the way to my spool.

How much will You make a rod like that for?
@tightlineshightides4599
@tightlineshightides4599 Год назад
Thanks for the interest! I can build a rod to this specification for a pretty wide range of price points. On the low end probably around $175 on up to as high as your imagination/budget can take you. Everything i build is custom to your personal preference. I take into consideration everything from your style and length of handle, the specific reel you are paring with it, typically lures you are throwing, color preference,and your budget. If you are interested, shoot me an email at tyler@tightlinesandhightides.com and we can start the process.

not weird at all... Its pretty light for the size. I like to build them as light as possible so i can cast longer without getting wore out. As for exact weight, not really sure because i don't have something to weigh it with.
