I liked the 60's tone more. and you left out the biggest reason for tone change, bridge pickup placement change.

I’m considering buying the 50’s Precision Bass, but I’m considering the Jaguar CV 70’s as well? I had a CV 70’s p and sold it after about a year.

Thanks for reviewing this bass! You just solidified my choice for buying this bass! I have bought CV’s before and liked them, and then sold them because I saw something else I wanted more. You know what I mean. I love this bass, I love the sound. It really shine’s when you throw some flats on it, and turn the tone down.

Great demo. Great Jack of All Trades Bass. Love mine. Just wish the body was a bit heavier.

I think the reason why your bass is lighter is because it is NATO wood which is kind of the equivalent to mahogany which is a lighter weight wood than like Alder. I have a Schecter Five string and the neck is longer and wider and the body is mahogany and it is lighter than my jazz bass and my fender Jaguar bass, and it has a medium scale neck. The jaguar is a little heavier than my jazz bass which I find unusual. But yeah I think that is why. I’m sure you probably know that already but just saying.

I'm really leaning toward that 70s classic vibes. The roasted maple gives it an incredible look. Throw in some new pots, and some EMG Geezer pickups, and it will be an affordable version of Lakland.

I want the pickup’s changed out to something a vintage type. I think actually maybe a vintage p bass pickup’s and a hot jazz bass pickup? I am not sure if you can mix them up like that and maybe change the tone cap to a 0.022uf and a 0.047uf paper and oil type because that is a vintage type of capacitor. Thanks Jimmy

I fell in love with the unique look and sound of the original P bass thanks to the awesome playing of the band Cake’s bassist. Got a sunburst one coming to me Monday!

I hate 38mm nut widths so both are out for me. I other than that the Squier looks and sounds better.

the 70s bass only has maple for the natural look unfortunately. i wwouldve loved if i could get it in sunburst for the looks but idk now. for me the quier 60s is a little cheaper

If you’re going to use the camera mic for your speech audio, don’t put music on top of it. It’s sounds horrible and it’s hard to hear what you’re saying in that boxy room. At least turn down the music.

I have the 5 string MIM. Absolutely lovely to play, and an amazing aray of tonal configurations. I disagree with the neck profile though, it's definitely a Jazz Bass neck, NOT a P-bass. Shame I never got to play the American version.
@somewhereman8

I had both the MIM and American Deluxe Dimension bass at the same time. The American was returned. I prefer the MIM neck because it’s much slimmer front to back at the nut.

Good review, thank you. I think I'm about to pull the trigger on a BB234. I have a Yamaha Tele six string which is so well made that I was leaning towards the BB anyway, but always good to get a second opinion.

Thank you! The Grabber, The Peavey T-40, The Vantage Bass (I've got a wacky one with an extra pickup, a 710B ), great, huge looking and sounding instruments! Question, are you sure Matsumoku also built guitars for Ibanez? I thought these 70's and 80's Ibanez-things were built in the Fugijen factory.

It's not "Yaco", it's Jaco. He wasn't European, he was from South Florida. Check out his son Felix. And it's not mere legend that Jaco removed his frets with a knife, etc, he definitely did. He tells the story to Jerry Jemmott ~7 minutes into this classic instructional video he made a few years before his tragic death. It's an education par excellence for any bassist. ru-vid.com/video/%D0%B2%D0%B8%D0%B4%D0%B5%D0%BE-fnHQc-gepGg.html

The Player doesn't really know what it is, it's not really a Mustang with PJ pickups, so sorry of sounds like a P bass but certainly not an actual Mustang.

Having used the preamp on the SR300E bass before, this arrangement won't take much to get used to, but yes it'd be a little much as a first bass (especially with how that middle knob is stacked while the ones beside it aren't). I heard the tuners are bad, but are they any worse than the Squier Affinity Jazz tuners? I never had issue with those personally, but I'm looking for a bass that combines the two I already have (3 band EQ with a passive switch on a jazz bass body) and this is the least expensive, most interesting one I've found so far.

Thanks for this video, I currently have a fretted version of the same bass and getting annoyed with the string buzz. I got it tuned up at a local shop and it is still buzzing. I'm new to bass. Do you think fretless will almost eliminate the buzzing?

It looks nice but pine ?? It probably wont last I imagine the scratch plate screws will strip out quickly. Maybe if it was yellow like Dusty Hill's bass , it comes in 1 color. I'll pass till more colors and a different wood.
