Nice review! Although can I suggest: in the tone comparisons, show a given setting for one bass then the same for the next bass, before moving onto the next setting; this will allow us to hear the comparative differences side by side. Having all the tone clips for one bass grouped together followed by those for the second doesn’t easily allow for such a comparison. Thanks!

I'm a 60's jazz bass lover and this video confirms my love for 60s characteristics!!!!

Definitely the 60s for me. I have both, I definitely prefer the 60s. Now if Squier just offered a 60s reissue with stack knobs...that would be the overall winner. I had to convert mine, but it was totally worth it.

You do not discuss the most important difference between the two, and the most likely reason for tone differences. The 70s jazz has a bridge pickup closer to the bridge, which is period correct. This makes a big difference in the bridge pickup tone and is the reason why they were a hit. They have a bigger spank and growl than the traditional position (which is what modern jazz basses have returned to).
@91cog
@91cog 2 года назад
Thanks for sharing, Jeff! I definitely have missed discussing that in the video and agree that it has a big impact on tone

Excellent point - and great excuse to the Mrs why I have SJB75 from SX with maple fingerboard v J & D 70s bass and a CV 60s in Daphne Blue. What I am finding is the 70s bridge pickup is quieter (less oscillation there) - and the stock pickups on CVs 60s are too hot for my env - way too much noise so some EMGs are on the way. This demo makes them sound better. Making some videos on my channel.for this. I rewired pickups with twisted pair wires. Made it quieter but still way too noisy.
@luigi.zanini
@luigi.zanini 2 года назад
practically the sound difference between two basses comes from the distance between the bridge pickups and the bridge itself only...also because they have the same pickups...

Jeff, please tell me on which guitar the distance between the bridge and the pickup is more standard and universal. that is, on Fender American professional jazz bass guitars or Fender player jazz bass is the same as 60' or 70' ? I want to have the sound most suitable for the RHCP group, which is better for me 60' or 70'. THANK YOU

Most important in this video to comparison: 70's: 4:11 60's: 5:56 70's Neck: 4:46 60's Neck: 6:31 My choice is a 60's, great tone with punch! 70's more muffled.
@DropDee44

Just tested both today at my local music store and went with the 70s because it just kinda felt better to me. The 60s neck felt a bit thicker which I did not like as much. Also in this video, the 60s does sound a little better but in the store the 70s sounded better to me. Before I tested them I was quite sure I would go with the 60s just from watching RU-vid. You should really go play and see which one speaks to you in the end :)

How would you compare the Squier jazz basses to Sire jazz basses (V3 or V7)?
@91cog
@91cog 2 года назад
The Sire V3 is a similar price point to these basses, and the Sire V3 potentially represent better value due to the onboard active EQ and sensational neck/rounded fretboard. Great question and thanks for watching!
@cnnr_
@cnnr_ 2 года назад
How would you compare either of the classic vibes to the Affinity jazz basses? I was really interested in the 60s cv because Flea uses a 61 Fender Jazz, so I assumed the closest I could get on a budget is the cv 60. But if the Affinity is just as good at half the price then idk.
@91cog
@91cog 2 года назад
Hi Connor thanks for watching! The Affinity series are a good bass but are a big step down from the Classic Vibe series. If you’re just starting out the Affinity is good, but if you’re looking to stick to the bass longer term I would get the CV. I hope that helps a little!

@@91cog cheers mate. I normally get overly excited and spend a bunch of money on a new hobby and flake out a month or two later. But it's been 3 months now and I'm still as eager to continue and practicing everyday. So yeah, I think I'll go with the classic vibe series. Even though in Aus they've gotten a price hike over the last few months, I better get it before inflation drives it up again.
@am2p.
@am2p. Год назад
I’d like to chime in here if your still considering getting a classic vibe, but you still haven’t. Just get yourself a Sire Marcus Miller V3. And if the shipping costs workout for your country, maybe go for a Sire Marcus Miller V7 off of Thomann music’s website. The quality and specs of the Sire basses is far better than what you’d get from squier in the price point of the classic vibes. If you did end up purchasing it though, maybe consider adding a sire Marcus Miller (jazz bass) to your collection, they are great instruments (especially for the price)
