Hi! I just got 2 dachshund puppies a month ago and have been having trouble with separation anxiety. I made a mistake of putting them in the same crate. But they have also been fine with eachother, they sleep together and are never aggressive. They listen to commands and have actually learned off of eachother with commands like sit, paw, and spin. I just learned about littermate syndrome recently and Im scared that i messed up something in their development. Should i still try to crate them separately? They have always been good with eachother and love sharing their toys. They love spending time with everyone in the house and even have their own seperate favorite people. I think the only issue is that when one of them is away, the other one barks for them. Please give me any input or suggestions! ❤
Hi! We used to have 2 yorkies, (boy and girl) and lost one last year and the other one very recently! They were both 16 when they passed! My daughter surprised us just last week with 2 dachsund pups, (male & female)! They are gorgeous! We were unaware of these potential potential until we started We were unaware of these potential problems until we started researching! We have had them at home for a week now and they appear to be having a great time! My worry is that we seem to have started all wrong¡ They are sleeping in the same crate, we have been training them together and have only just separated the feed bowls! My question is; can we start again afresh or are they likely to be set in a routine? Thanks for the video!
Usually same sex dogs are unlikely to go through littermate syndrome. Your issue is going to be the first season. Thats going to be virtually impossible. You’ll need to find a place for the male to go for a few weeks during seasons x
The female eating poop is more the fact that they need to keep the den clean and that is what they do with their pups as well. That's most female dogs especially if not spayed.
So happy to hear Eva is okay now! I’d love to know more about IVDD items as I have a smooth hair who is 3 1/2 years old and I’m petrified of this happening!
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 Good on you keeping savings aside 'just in case'. So many would perhaps think "It'll never happen to me" and not bother. We are on our 3rd, and have always had insurance just for this one specific reason! You can't take that risk! Really glad to see you back, and I'd love a video just watching your pack being mischievous for half an hour or so lol

So helpful. I have a 6 month old female and I’ve always had male dog so picking up on her season has been causing me so much anxiety. After watching your video I feel a lot more prepared thank you. Could you do a video on reacting as she barks at everyone and everything on walks sometimes I dread them. She pulls on her lead a lot too

I’ll be trying all of this, thank you. What should my family do to stop the reactions when I leave the room as even when he’s not alone, he will cry at the door and has no interest in whose in the room with him. I’ll get them doing some of the training so it’s not all on me but I’m very much my dogs “person”

I'm getting my first ever pup around Christmas this year, and am absolutely binging every advice and dog behaviour video I can find. I was actually hoping for a poodle, but a family friend is mating her dachshund next month, and has offered one of her pups instead. I have to admit though, I'm quite apprehensive about a dachshund given the slew of health issues they have. One of the "ground rules" that have been set in the household is that pup isn't allowed on the furniture, so no ramp for us, and hopefully less spinal strain too
Unfortunately IVDD is genetic and although you can reduce the risks unfortunately 1 in 4 do still end up with it despite all best efforts. The best bet is to know that at some point between 4-7 years old it’s likely your dog may end up with back issues so have the best insurance cover you can get x
@@lennysixdachshunds1069 of course, and I do very much intend to get my baby insured! My thought process is more along the lines of "if pup is already predisposed, what can I do to extend their time before those issues get worse" so that the little one gets the best quality of life I can provide. To be fair though, I already live on a hill, so pup will be walking up/down at a diagonal anyway
Im glad i came across this channel, its quite relatable and it helps. I am 100% new to owning a dog full stop. A miniature chocolate / tan smooth haired doxie is what i lusted after and went for. One tip that i can give that has almost fixed every issue that ive ever had with my daschie. And thats establishing myself as alpha in my dogs eyes, this is crucial. I know this now, but i didn't a month ago and i wished i did. He came to us fresh at 12 weeks old. But it nearly came to an end not long ago when he just became too much. oh boy What a problem pup he was. He was so bloody naughty to the point of stupidity. The humping of me, the mrs and her mates was actually quite priceless, but totally not funny in any way 😆 Stealing socks, garments and other things of interest like the keys to a 23 plate electric car. Chewing of windowsills, rugs and remote controls (but due to teething i understand this is involuntary) although he has £50 worth of chew toys scattered around. The constant peeing and pooing inside the house. There was poop Under the bed, poop left behind doors & poop right in the place where you dont look and you end up stepping on leaving you disgusted. Even tho he goes out every 45 mins to 1hr religiously. The rainy Welsh days are a huge factor in his toilet habits too... if its raining outside forgettabout it. The livingroom rug is the only place on my doxies mind. If theres a dog walking by thats bigger than a fiat 500 he will try and start a scrap with it. Seat stealing Food begging when his bowl is untouched. He used to be overpowering and intrusive, he will dart across a room, knocking over candles and ornaments just to get to me... he would even sit on an ashtray if it meant being close to his objeced desire. The only thing that snapped him out of this bad behaviour was establishing myself as alpha and it felt horrible. Positive reinforcement works well like treats etc but its not 100% foolproof. Youve got to loose your absolute rag when hes acting naughty. This is necessary sometimes but always without violence. I read in a puppy training book that the way a pups mum disciplines her pups is to pin them down and snarl at them. I tried this with boris one day after he pooped inside after being outside and it works a treat... i picked him up. Layed him down on his side and held his shoulders down and screamed the absolute place down while pointing at the poo. After 30 secs he got up, shit himself and ran away. 2 more pin downs later and hes now bloody brilliant. Hes obedient. Now goes toilet on command, He now knows that my happy voice means good things and my angry voice means bad things and hes such a happy dog because of the experience... sorry its long reading but hope it helps someone.
This is ABSOLUTELY not the way to work with a dog. Pinning them down ‘the mum does not pin their dogs down’ I’m wondering what book states this. Establishing alpha is EXTREMELY outdated information as dogs work as packs not with a dominant alpha. You will end up with a dog that bites you later in life or even sooner if you do this. Quick fixes are always going to cause long terms issues and I hope you got that from my other videos. Please rethink your methods. Here if you need me

Hi! My puppy is 4 mo old , and he bites a lot! It starts playful, and then he growls and actively barks and tries to bite. It only gets more aggressive when we try pulling our hands back mid bite. Gonna try your suggestions! Thank you!
Things about a female, I have a 4-month-old miniature dachshund, she is all over the place she was until I learned that you have to be careful with them because of their back they say no jumping up and down things like that on the couch on the bed you have to get stairs so I'm in the process of buying stairs for the dog, is there anything else I need to know ❤
Hi Lenny can you tell me how I tell if a dachshund is a long haired or smooth from about 2 weeks of age . Also if one has his tongue out slightly is this a worry ?
Hey! Tongue out slightly doesn’t sound not right at 2 weeks and you can tell by brushing your finger against the hair grain. Longs have much longer hair by 2 weeks if you do this. Was this a cross coat breeding? X
My dapple male always humps my younger mixed dachshund. I have a 5 breed male 34%rottweiler/29%dachshund/ 19 % Australian cattle dog/12% retriever/5.7% miniature pincher dachshund. Jax, my pure bred another dapple, always jumps Marty. It doesn’t stop usually. But Marty being the more outgoing one, just takes it 🤣.
Who said owners may “get embarrassed” when their boy dachshunds are jumping god knows what?? I proudly tell mine wherever we are, “ yeah, that’s my boy right there”
