Hey! I'm Andong, a Berlin-based food RU-vidr, exploring the world in the pursuit of good food, cooking techniques and the stories behind those things.
I discovered my passion for food when I lived in China. I have since returned to Germany, become a filmmaker and make weekly videos about food, culture and cooking!
I started this channel in 2018. I've been on RU-vid for ages though - feel free to check my super old and cringy content, partly consisting of mandarin rap videos that went viral in China. I'm leaving them up cause I think they're awkward and fun. But I'm all about food now, I promise!
You're welcome to join the club and bring the world a little closer by sharing and learning about our food cultures.

YT is full of crap content of people talking shit to each other, and here comes Andong with a clearly directed, locally-produced (as in you fly there) content, food mixed with history. You totally need a shout out!
The only Peruvian I ever spoke to was extremely racist towards Chinese. I was confused by this but after seeing this video and researching history of Chinese and Peru I have come to understand this is very common there. Thanks for sharing.
If the original inventor of currywurst sauce used curry powder acquired from British forces in her sector it would have been what we call Madras curry powder, there are two types mild and hot, for medium you can combine the two or add more pepper powder to the mild. When making the sauce I like to use both ketchup and tomato paste.
Never forget, with what came with slavery came with the erasure of african peoples connections with their homeland. Their 'past' had no place in the condition of slavery, as such Black people were the only people who had to recreate themselves and their cultures from scratch. And this gave them an advantage over other peopels in that they could easily adapt, be inventive, incredibly creative, and much much more. The constraints of racism only made them stronger. Even in terms of cooking and cuisine. As they were given what was considered the worse of foods, and what we call today high gourme. Need we forget, Black people cooked for whites, and made numerous dishes that cater to 'high society' . From poverty came inventive ideas in all areas including food. Taking what was considered trash such as lobsters, crabs and other shelled sea foods and making incredible dishes from them. Fried chicken was universally loved but viewed in a racist manner because black people knew how to cook it extreme well, spices and ingredients that would blow peoples minds away. This is typical world wide. from the poorest peoples come the most amazing dishes and flavors, because they were forced to made do with what often was disregarded.
Your soup made me cry today. I have been having trouble getting my one year old to eat anything. She didn't want anything but milk for a few days and I was going crazy. So when she pointed and asked for lentil soup, and had a half a bowl of it, I was so happy my eyes got wet.
I visited Lima's Chinatown a few years ago, including the 100 year old plus benevolent society buildings. Truly fascinating history in danger of disappearance as Chinese blood is more and more integrated and or emigrated to the United States.
Since you are based in Berlin and it's been a year you should probably redo it before making your own brand, and include Danish gummies :P Syrlinger is one I think you'd like.. If you can find Bonbon, they have some really good ones too.
Fun fact.. The part of Haribo that makes "lakrids" is actually Danish.. Yup, different company.. Also liqorice is a flavour not a texture.. it's weird to Americans, sorry to break it to you, the flavour is made from a plant that is named and taste like liqorice, black type for those who wonder - I know "whaaaat" yeah yeah, but that's how it is lol
Dude, your screenshots even say the word "Kolonie". So why are you talking about "migrants looking for a better life"? And these German towns in Abya Yala are surely not funny to the Indigenous people who were displaced because of them.
coolies we call they. theyre life is cruel. most chinese workers abroad were to replace slave or hard labor. i only learned that when i went to cuba and panama
Who is the person on the Club mate sticker? Is it a woman or a man? Or is it also related with Berlin's culture? :) Dankeschön für die schnelle Antwort
Thank you so much for this really well researched video! And I don't know if it was intentional, but I think you used a slightly manipulated map there at 9:54 ;)
Great video! I am stunned that they actually have such along history. Sidenote: they did do advertisements at least in the early 2000s in magazines with the famous slogan „Man gewöhnt sich dran.“ which is in itself genius I think.
Great Video! Only discovered your channel. I am surprised you didn’t mention there are supposedly two slightly different recipes. One sweeter one for the south of Europe and another for the north. Did you hear any of that?
