That's what I did until they came out with Turtle Wax trim restore. Very affordable. Only went through like 1/3rd of a bottle and was able to bring back all my black trim. Inside and out. The side guards, lower bumper guards, and upper dash and upper door cards are supposed to be dark Anthricite color. They looked as grey as a graphite pencil. Thankfully, the solution is acrylic based so it lasts. Has for over a year and hasn't dulled any.

Use a heat gun instead
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
I never had any luck with a heat gun. When the plastic started to melt it eliminated the texture. Looked like crap.

Howe did you find a matching paint color?
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
That's the tricky part with anything except black. With black, I tested a little area first and found the semi-gloss worked well. I have a little Honda Civic with dark blue plastic and I couldn't find a shade that matched it. It's trial and error. Always pick a spot to test where it won't be seen. In my Civic I tested small areas in the rear hatchback area.

You have the Best Solution for this problem boss "Perfect"👍🏾
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
Yes, I think so too. I tried the heat gun thing and it melts the friggin plastic and looks worse. This really hides the scratches rather than trying to remove them. Hides them really well. Mine still looks great after two years with no issues. I don't trash the back so I haven't even had to go in and clean it. Others have voiced concern about cleaning but it's enamel paint that you need something like paint thinner to dissolve.

@raymundorubio2375 Год назад
@@thekickthemalloutproject8583 yeah that's what happened to me as well I believe that way is good for minor scratches my car like your truck had deep dog nail scratches so I knew right off the bat we had the same issue but Thanks again for this easy way to restore this issue with excellent results👍🏾!!!

It’s easier to get a ceramic trim restorer. Be careful with it as it does stain other thing such as carpets etc, but it is permanent.

@dsteward85
@dsteward85 Год назад
Is it permanent or will it eventually rub away when using other chemicals aka car detailing products?
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
Paint is pretty permanent unless you use some kind of solvent on it. I did this on the rear of my car so frankly, I haven't had to clean it since I've done it and it still looks way better than it did. If I were going to clean it I'd just use mild soapy water.

Best idea so far tonight! The idea of the heat gun I have seen videos of people leaving burn marks on the plastic
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
@thekickthemalloutproject8583 2 года назад
Yes, I tried the heat gun. Didn't work for me. Too easy to melt too much plastic and as you say, burn it. Doing it like this still looks so much better than it did and the "flaking nonsense" some have mentioned never happened. I did try it on my other little Honda Civic with a dark blue interior and it didn't work very well because I couldn't find a blue paint to match close enough. The black worked perfectly.
@DonDidThatt

@@thekickthemalloutproject8583 dude screw the flaking ima do it on my whip if it’s still holding for you! Thanks

Please...anyone viewing, don't do this...The scratch is still there. When the car heats up, gets cold, you know the deal...This is a 3 month band aid. Oh ya, don't touch it at all after you did this bc now it's even more prone to blemishes...in that 3 month grace period.
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
@thekickthemalloutproject8583 2 года назад
You don't know what you're talking about. It's been TWO YEARS since I did this and it still looks great. Sure the scratches are still there but you can't see them unless you put your nose up to it. It's enamel paint for crying out loud. When it dries, which is almost instantly when doing it this way, it's not some fragile remedy. I live in Colorado so it's been through REALLLY HOT summers and REALLY COLD winters and it still looks great. The idea here isn't to get rid of the scratches. It's to make them much less noticeable, which this most certainly does.
@TimMort

Should have sanded it down first.. what’s the point of painting over deep scratches?
@thekickthemalloutproject8583

They weren't deep scratches which is why this works. Sanding would just create more of a mess to fix.

How does this hold up to standard cleaning? I’m wanting to do this to my car but want to know how cleaning, using chemical polishers would effect it.
@thekickthemalloutproject8583
@thekickthemalloutproject8583 2 года назад
I don't really know. Frankly, I only did this in the rear portion of the car which I never need to clean. If I did do a lot of cleaning I'd just use mild soapy water. I wouldn't use aggressive chemicals that could eat away the paint.

ALL "corporations" are simply conspirational exercises in criminal irresponsibility, seeking to dilute human culpability in order to protect their rights to remain irresponsible (hence "limited liability" = limited responsibility corporations). They pretend to dilute each individuals' guilt in a larger group (might makes rights) and through idolatry (the usual "I didn't do it - ONLY 'The GROUP' did it! Whee!"). I mean, getting incorporated is a conspiracy like: CORPORAZI: "Your honor, I'd like to take some risks which will only affect other people, for gains which will accrue only to myself!" JUDGE: "DENIED; that's planned criminal negligence! Off to jail with you!" CORPORAZI: "Er, I meant 'we' would like to have such 'legal' protections, in advance - capisce?"! JUDGE: "Oh, that's different! OK then, sign up here!"
