For me Furyu is what Atlus used to be back during Gen 6. They produce games with low budgets that you can tell have a lot of creative freedom behind them. The industry has shifted a lot, and it’s harder for smaller and weirder games to find an audience when super shiny, polished, and familiar experiences are what review well in the RPG genre. It’s not a niche genre anymore. I really think games like Caligula or Monark would’ve thrived in the PS2 era. Because they feel like they came from that era, creatively speaking. I personally really resonated with Monark. It offers a lot of the same experimentation, style and quality writing that made me fall in love with games like Persona 3 a long time ago. It’s a bold game that isn’t trying to please a crowd. And a please a crowd it didn’t. It got mixed reviews. But at this point an RPG with mixed reviews is one to potentially keep an eye on. And I definitely want to keep an eye on Crystar, Monark, and Crymachina’s director, Fuyuki Hayashi. I think he’s got a lot of unrecognized talent and may be the guy to eventually produce a hit for Furyu.
@shinmegamitalks
@shinmegamitalks 27 дней назад
@roxas7295 YES!!!! ANOTHER ONE WHO GETS IT! I do agree with you, it's definitely no longer a niche era. Monark was such a gem of a game, and I adore Crystar. I know a lot people don't really enjoy Crymachina but I enjoyed what little bit I played. Really looking forward to Reynatis though. I think it's my most anticipated game to be honest.

@destiny13777 2 месяца назад
Yeah I can see your point of view, for me personally I think the one thing that seems to always help point this in the other direction is that I feel more often than not ports or remasters tend to muddy the experience to where instead of being a definitive version of a game, they end up doing the opposite and make it an ok or less than favorable experience. I think I first noticed this with Tales of Symphonia Chronicles were they took the cheaper route of using the PS2 version as a base instead of adding the additional content back into the Gamecube version which is still the best looking and performing version of that game. And then each port of that port seems to come with it's own new share of problems. A lot of them tend to be half hearted attempts to garner new fans by doing the bare minimum I suppose, which makes fans of the original less likely to double dip.
@shinmegamitalks

I think in terms of collecting you are right. Things won't be rare. You will be able to find a port, remaster or remake on whatever current system. I see it as a nice thing. I'd rather play some of my favourites on the modern systems because they are more comfortable. It would be a hasstle for me to hook up a bunch of older systems. I also don't love clutter.. Some games that are remade I never got to play! And it's nice they are available now. Or some games yes that are rare and I'm happy they are re releasing so I can get my hands on them such a Lolipop Chainsaw, or Front Mission and Jeanne D'arc. Being a huge fan of Persona 3 and say a Metal Gear Solid 3. I'm kinda really happy to reply those games in an updated way. People do want new games and new experiences though. And that's not going anywhere either. The games I look forward to are mostly new such as Metaphor, Ys Nordics, Astro Bot, Hades 2. I still need to get my hands on others from this year because there is too much out there to be able to buy. Baldur's Gate 3, Stellar Blade, RoboCop, Alan Wake 2. By the way.. PS5 is pretty awesome.. Resident Evil 4 you mentioned? Yes the blueprint was there, but it's pretty much a new game from the ground up. And it was FANTASTIC. There really are new games, not all ports and they come out all the time. The console is so fast, the controller the best it's ever been. Coupled with an OLED screen.. it's pretty much the best experience. I feel like these days are amazing. Choice of games are incredible. And the hardware is better than ever. And I play a mix of old and new. The choice is just there. I have stuff like Elden Ring, Helldivers 2, Persona 3 Reload, V Rising, Dave the Diver on my plate right now, plus an insane backlog.
@shinmegamitalks
@shinmegamitalks 2 месяца назад
@picknick21 I 1000% agree with you. if it wasn't for some of the ports I have, I would have never been able to play some of the games I have in my own collection. I just wonder if this is going to continue. the new games you buy today, are just going to be Ports of the next generation and continue down the of remasters and ports.

@waleedtheXIVth Hahahaha never gonna happen. I'm still waiting on the restock for Unicorn Overlord Collector's Edition on switch. It's an interesting thought. I think you're generally right. How many games are console exclusive games that have never been ported? Very few. Reports I've read suggest there will be Switch backwards compatibility on the Switch 2, but it doesn't necessarily make sense from an evil corporate profiteering perspective. How's this for a horrible, anti-consumer idea? The Switch 2 will be fully backwards compatible, but you can't run a Switch game unless you pay Nintendo a fee that unlocks it on the Switch 2 and allows it to run at higher frame rates. $5 a game OR, if you subscribe to Nintendo Online, you get 3 free unlocks per month. BUT WAIT, if you unlock your Switch game on your new Switch 2, it can only be played on that console and won't work on any other Switches or Switch 2s. Death to the second-hand market! Great video as always!

Geez, half this video is about Falcom. I just can't seem to get away from them. Anyway, as far as FuRyu go, I do tend to enjoy their games and their reputation as terrible developers in the community do puzzle me somewhat. Heck, there was even an image going around not too long ago by someone claiming they make souless cash grabs based on their lower than average metacritic scores as evidence. Though I guess I shouldn't be surprised since those are the exact type of games that generally don't get received or score well. They hit a very specific itch so if it's not something you are looking for, they likely will barely do anything for you. But that can be said for a lot of the more niche developers. You even put Compile Heart and Idea Factory on blast at one point and, like, I generally enjoy their stuff too. Much less others like Gust, Tamsoft, Aquaplus, Marvelous, CC2, and so on. I like all of these smaller, niche developers...even if there are some bumps on the way. Then again, I'm probably just looking for a replacement for NIS (Nippon Ichi Software), who are my absolute favorite developer. They are sadly on the verge of dying, to the point even their own Western localizing subsidiary (NISA) have more or less abandoned them to localize Falcom game's instead. And some of FuRyu's games lately as well.
@shinmegamitalks
@shinmegamitalks 2 месяца назад
@shadowmaksim You can never escape Falcom. I did notice that Furyu get low scores as well, and they make pretty good titles. To be honest I think I much prefer them stay niche. I kinda wish this style of game had a more specific tag on steam. dungeon crawler covers a wide rage of gameplay styles and I quite like some of these first person ones. One big series i think that plays a lot like this that I feel has more overall quality to it is the etrian odyssey series. Not that these other titles are bad per say, but too many of them feel like they were just churned out via rpg maker and they have some amazing concepts though that I wish were more polished. I would say the first game I ever played that had a first person dungeon crawler aspect was actually Ultima quest of the avatar for NES. At least I think that's what it's name was. Technically i don't think it classified as such a game, however it did have segments where you explored dungeons and it swapped from a top down view into a first person view for these dungeons. Etrian Odyssey is probably the second game i've played in this style and honestly I haven't found many that gave me that same feel of either of these two games, but they have given me a feel of another atmosphere I never really expected with these games. Undernaughts it one I definitely want to get my hands on and lately I've settled for operation abyss/babel though that particular game really needs some major work considering so many aspects of the game are horribly explained if at all.
@shinmegamitalks
@shinmegamitalks 7 месяцев назад
1000% agree although I enjoy operation Abyss and hate babel, there are some translation issues. The Etrian series is another classic I've played through. I enjoy EO but I think for me as well, the look of the game also plays a big role. Look up a game called the lost child, now that is an RPG maker dungeon crawlers, but it was fun for me to run through.
@raventhorX
@raventhorX 7 месяцев назад
@@shinmegamitalks What system is the lost child on? doesn't seem to be on steam and all i have other than that is a Nintendo switch. Due to rumors of a new switch I have been hesitant to purchase more games for it unless they are exclusives and even more so because I'm worried about backwards compatibility not being a thing for the next Nintendo console. Also why is it that you didn't like babel but liked abyss? My understanding is they are all technically 3 different games but the way they play makes me feel like they all should be the same game, especially when you consider abyss is actually the first two games in the series fused together. I'm playing through it right now due to watching a video about undernaughts and I kinda wanted to get into that style of a game but can't afford undernaughts at the moment. Same deal with the etrian series, its on steam now but I lack the funds to purchase them.

@@shinmegamitalks just looked it up and it seems the lost child was delisted possibly due to publishing rights shifting. Couldn't find it on the switch store. apparently demon gaze was delisted as well which is unfortunate as I was going to try to put that on my list as well. seems god wars was also a delisted game according to the website i've found however there is a god wars available on steam. doesn't seem to be this style of game though but for some reason the list included it. anyway the god wars on steam looks like it might be some form of rerelease or something, possibly a combo deal sort of like abyss is if it doesn't just have a bunch of added content instead. while writing this apparently they also had a release of demon gaze but i've yet to find a demon gaze two.
@shinmegamitalks
@shinmegamitalks 7 месяцев назад
@raventhorX I completely understand. I don't think the new Nintendo console is going to have backwards compatibility to be honest with you. So saving money right now, would be wise. I only dislike babel because it's too much like Abyss, and not even a visual updated sequel. So a lot of the flak I give it is just due to me feeling its a lazy sequel. And lost child is on PS4, Vita and switch. It's kinda expensive I've heard. I did a gameplay video on it somewhere in my library.
@raventhorX
@raventhorX 7 месяцев назад
@@shinmegamitalks I couldn't find the lost child on switch at all. Also I think there are a few games I'm still going to get for my switch, namely the xenoblade chronicles games, then probably call it quits with the switch if the new one doesn't have backwards compatibility. I already have way too many games as is and due to my financial situation I can't always buy the games I want even when they go on sale and honestly it's just starting to feel like another form of FOMO. So I'm gunna start filtering games out by focusing on one system. Which is probably going to be pc. Sure it can be expensive but at least on pc there is always going to be some method to get a game I might have missed out on unlike consoles unfortunately, though the downside to that is it also has a much more massive library of titles I want to play through eventually lol. Probably the only reason I wish I were immortal lmfao.
