my name's tom and i want to help you and myself be more discerning about the makeup we purchase. I have a history of overspending on makeup and I don't ever want to find myself in that situation again. on my channel I do videos like Critical Sass where I talk about new makeup releases and unpack the makeup marketing. I will try to help talk you out of purchases you may haven't fully thought through OR help you realize the purchase you want to make will actually add value to your makeup collection. I also do a lot of makeup testing to find out of these brands are actually making product that could be worth your time. I always want to approach makeup through the fun that it has always provided me and I hope that's what you'll find on this channel.
Rephr brushes look like dupes of Chikuhodo brushes from Japan. However, they're not exactly dupes since the price difference is very minimal. Maybe they're the same manufacturer? That being said, I've never owned any face brushes from Rephr since shipping is a pain and I have not read enough good reviews. Chikuhodo, on the other hand, is from Japan so it's much nearer to me. Their face brushes are very well made. I only experienced very minimal shedding in the beginning. Now that they're broken in, they don't shed on me anymore. In general though, Japanese brushes are painstakingly difficult to dry after washing hence why I now have reverted to my BK Beauty face brushes just cuz they make my life easier as an artist.

I wanted Fenty’s limited edition gunmetal lip gloss but missed out 🤷🏿♀️ I waited to buy Danessa’s Groundwork palette in Blooming Romance and am so in love and glad I pulled the trigger. Also have lots of Fenty items on my wishlist

I cannot wear anything other than BR. It’s the one scent I’ve really stuck to. I got it for Christmas in 2022 and it’s about 2/3rds down? I get compliments on it all the time including from my husband who smells it everyday. 😂

I mean it's cool to have discontinued products, I have almost all of the original Tom Ford blushes and I absolutely prefer them to the new duos. It's sad that they're not available anymore but, it's not insulin... I would have loved to have purchased last year's Chanel Mauve blush or an even older Chanel blush from 2007 named Notorious, but I can't, c'est la vie.
The only thing on my wishlist right now is a pale (or lightly pigmented) purple cream or liquid blush. The top 2 contenders are the ABH in baby pink or About Face Score.
So I bit the bullet in both concealers, but I think I already told you this. But now you made me want the Lilac Gucci Highlighter. I might buy it next month. But this month, I'm done with makeup shopping. I have Peau de Peony (the new WA highlighter) and it's such cool pink highlighter that makes my skin just look woken up and healthy. As for WA prices, one of the things that I find interesting is that when it came out it was outrageously expensive, after all these years their prices stayed the same though. Not that I'm saying their cheap, but at least they're not rising and rising like other brands.
I've had the VB cleansing products in my wish list pretty much since they launched, much like you it's like I want that luxury experience, but I find the price point ever so slightly out there. It stays, but as I'm running out of both my cleansers I will most likely will not repurchase the VB. And again, if I was in another income bracket, I probably wouldn't even blink but these days, there are some products that I purchase and that I shrug after I've purchased them. Also, another downside is that the VB should offer some sort of travel packaging for that price because yes the bottles are luxurious but if I want to take them with me, the decanting and whatnot is super fussy and I travel mostly with a carry on. Thanks for this video, it helped put some of my other wish list items in perspective.
I purchased the black lip balm from Mob beauty and I think I will declutter it. It was very patchy upon application and migrating while wearing, even with lip liner. I overall love Mob products but this was not for me. Just wanted to give you a heads up! ❤
A great list!!!! I easily removed that gucci highlighter from my list lol! I can second @rosiesandwiches that CHAI by Lauren is EVERYTHING: soft, sweet, passing for a real flushed look, reliable, dependable, flexible. It's one of the shades I also use to "fill in the hollows" as Kackie says, in terms of color theory and shading around a deeper color with one closer to your skin tone. I'm waiting for a Lisa Elridge lipstick restock.....and I've just added that Merit "Antibes" to my list - it gives you the bitten lip look, I think! 🤩 I just LOVE this eye look! A gold disco mix! 💫💫💫
Sheer black lippies are one of my obsessions. I have to constantly remind myself I own many so I don't buy more. I came so close to buying the Rudy Berry freckle pen but am so glad I didn't because I own four different ones & rarely touch them! I do love how they look, but it's a tedious process tbh. The only thing on my wish list that I still really want is the bbb bad witch palette. I fully plan on buying it when it restocks in Nov. I thought my want for it would abate, but it has not. I'm also v intrigued by the new DM light work freedom palette, however, I won't pick it up. I did dm the brand to tell them that if they did different colorstories or decided to make a byop feature, I would for sure build my own.
I kinda want that gucci lavender highlighter. I saw another reviewer say that it had more of a creamy powder texture that you could almost put a dent in it with your finger. That makes me think it’s probably not like the highly fragile highlighters from Rihanna, but idk? I wanna swatch it
I have the kvd flash storm and love it. I always throw it in my beauty pouch when travelling similar to a satin colourfix. I don't use them.that much year round but im soooo excited for my minimal but impactful travel kit every single time. I'm interested in the dose of colors ones but not with shipping and taxes... 😬
Personally I can’t get behind expensive cleansers, like even if I had more money to spend I would still just get the $5 one from Believe Beauty with charcoal. It’s unfortunately only available at Dollar General but everything from their skincare line is so fire for how affordable it is. That specific cleanser is meant for oily skin, but it’s still phenomenal for my more dry leaning skin, even using it once a day (and I legit can’t live without the vitamin C serum, also only $5) but all this to say you definitely don’t need to spend exorbitant amounts of money just to wash your face lol
the lash/brow tint from 1999 has been on my wishlist for like a year which is ridiculous because it’s only like 20 bucks. I know it’s a tubing formula which really intrigues me. I have very coppery eyebrows I try to darken to match the rest of my hair and I’ve just been burned by so many products that wear off after a few hours and I’m left with calico brows.
Sorry (not sorry) to report that Chai really is very lovely. It’s both unique (there’s an almost cool-toned shimmer to it that just reads as a desaturated glow) and also an easy reach for most looks. Definitely worth considering if/when a sale comes around.
They used a matte brown shade from CHARLOTTE TILBURY | New! The Beautyverse Palette, topped with URBAN DECAY | 24/7 Moondust Eyeshadow - Space Cowboy and then topped THAT with Phytosurgence - Fractal Freesia, which kind of filled in the blanks of their lid-universe. Isn't it a dazzling wonder??!!
How do you apply Space Cowboy? Not sure if mine has hard panned or what but I'm not able to get it that ~sparkly~ it's just kind of a sheer wash of sparkle
I apply it with my fingers. I had cosmic a long time ago and mine hard-panned and did what you’re describing. I find that if a shadow hard-pans using my fingers usually still works. However I’ll keep you posted if this happens to my space cowboy!
@@badtothebrowthis is find is easily fixable by washing your hands before dipping into it. If i touch products with an oil base (foundations or moisturizers etc), whatever oil residue is on my fingers will transfer to my eyeshadows and develop a hard pan. So i do my eyeshadow first after washing my hands prior to makeup application, then go on with all my base stuff lol added benefit of cleaning up any eyeshadow fallout.
@@hautemesstom Ok, so you inspired me to break out Space Cowboy today and I am happy to report that the rephr 21 brush gives me that sparkle sparkle. I usually use my finger but then it just sticks to my finger and doesn't transfer to my lid. I know how you feel about rephr and I agree for the fluffy brushes, but the 21 is unique and applies shimmer/sparkle like no other. It's the only brush I've tried that works with the VB lid lustres.

This eye look! I need to put on Phyto's Lunar Lightwave more often! I've used Divine Daylight as all-over face "enhancer" (I guess) instead of foundation, and I think it looked wonderful. Alas, my makeup usage has been VERY minimal lately (unless I can apply with my fingees) because ALLLLL my brushes need a deep clean which I've been putting off...and off...and off.
Loooved this look! Going to try and recreate it. For me the new ND palette is more like biba married the metropolitan palette and had a baby with a single duochrome in there (which indies do so much better anyway). I own both, and all the new palettes ND is putting out are so much of the same it’s like the PMG playbook all over again, so there’ll be no ND purchases from me. Going to pull out my space cowboy single and try to replicate this gorgeous look, thanks for the inspo!
I love wearing the Spectral Shine that way, layering my bronzer and blush over. Gorgeous! I’ve had good luck patting it on with those little triangle puffs too.
By the way, could you maybe talk a little more about the Spectral Shine? Like if you ever wanted to do a short that’s be awesome. But I’d love to know your thoughts more in depth. I bought mine last year and sometimes I feel like I can get it to work and others times I can’t. I can’t get it to work consistently. I saw you use a firm brush-maybe that’s the secret? The best way to see an effect of blurring for me is using my fingers but that takes forever because of the consistency of the product. I bought the brush that goes with it but it feels really fluffy (especially in comparison to the Sonia G one you said you use). Maybe I should switch brushes…. 🤔
I’m still getting acquainted with it myself. I think this is the first application video I’ve filmed since having it back. I don’t really feel like an expert in it yet but the application I did today is that works best for me but everyone seemingly uses it differently.
