Wish I would have seen this video using the quilting cotton. I tried making it on my Juki TL18 using WRC for exterior and interior, was too much for my machine.
I'm sorry your machine struggled. My machine is the same as yours, just an older model. The vinyl I used for this bag is thinner (so it's like a quilting cotton interfaced with a woven interfacing), and I used quilting cotton for the lining. When using thicker materials, you can cut the interfacing smaller so it is kept out of the seam allowances. Also, try a bigger needle, sometimes I'll use an 18 needle when I'm using thicker fabrics. You can also use a mallet to hammer the materials to help flatten them, it "squishes" them together to make it easier for the machine to get through the bulk. Put a scrap of fabric between your bag and the mallet so you don't damage the materials. Also, adjusting yout presser foot tension so it is tighter helps. These are things I do when I'm using thick materials, especially for materials like WRC for both the exterior and lining. 😊
Hi Michelle, just wondering if you used the Fusible Heavy Stabiliser (Decovil Heavy, Pellon Peltex 71F) on your base gusset? If so, did you apply it before you applied the foam stabiliser?
I love your tutorials, thank you for doing them. Would you please consider tilting your camera up more, so we can see more of your machine and you actually stitching/sewing? I think all of us watching, would benefit more from all the tips and tricks you show as you’re actually stitching. For example, the back stitching away from the hardware you talked about in this video. It was very difficult to see what you were actually doing. Just a suggestion for future videos. Thank you!

Can you tell me what size your links were, my chain links were much smaller and hard to pull through. I actually had to cut my strip down to 3/4” and fold in 1/2 to get it to fit.
I don't know the exact chain link size and I don't have this bag anymore. I purchased this chain from my local hardware store. I struggled to get mine in and it took a bit of time, but I just went slowly and it worked. If you have to make the strap smaller to fit, no one will ever know. 😊

I am about half way through this video, and I hope you do not mind if I offer these comments. On the introduction, you are speaking so fast that it is difficult to follow what you are saying. Although I do understand that you want to protect the designer, surely advising on the main seam allowance, and on your stitch length, is not revealing that much. Also you could use a plain pattern piece, to show roughly where the pattern markings are. The whole secrecy issue is actually spoiling a good tutorial.
As I mention in the video, I film during testing. This means that often times things can change, including seam allowances. So, I do not give those or any other information, including showing pattern pieces. This way if something does change, my tutorials are not affected. For that reason and to protect the designers (they actually also request that I give/share no pattern information) I will never give this information away. Also, yes, I speak fast, unfortunately I can't change that, it's how I've been my whole life. However, because these tutorials are long, I don't want to spend a lot of time talking. You can use the option on RU-vid to slow down the tutorial or speed it up so it is at a pace you like. 😃

I've had this pattern for quite some time now but since I'm a visual learner and have difficulties following written instructions, waited for the right tutorial. Your instructions are so clear and easy for me to follow. By the way, where did you get your screwdrivers set? The fabrics you used are absolutely beautiful. I have collections of Tula Pink fabrics. Awww, thank you so much! After Buddy passed away, it was hard to film tutorials. I've also had some health issues arise and needed to take care of myself. I'm glad I found you! What a comprehensive tutorial! I was humming and hawing between this bag and the Joey (because it had a zipper). But after seeing your tutorial, I decided to buy this bag pattern. I plan on buying the same exterior fabric because I think it is so beautiful. I love the tips you add and going over difficult parts to ensure we understand it all. I made sure to subscribe. Cheers from Canada. Edit to add: One thing I am a bit confused about is thread size. I know some use Tex 45 and some use higher. When I made my first bag (I only have a domestic machine), I was advised to use Tex 70. So that's what I've been using for even sewing grocery tote bags. But is that going overboard and Tex 45 is plenty strong? If you have a video about this, please let me know and I will watch it.

Tex 70 is for industrial machines, and some domestic machines have a hard time with this thread.
@@mgrahamsews Oh wonderful! I bought Coats Upholstery thread (which is Tex 70) and I wondered if the Tex 45 would be strong enough. My domestic machine (Husqvarna Optima 630) doesn't seem to struggle with Tex 70, but next time I buy thread, I will buy Tex 45. Thank you for your help!
