Hi! I'm Francois, an ultra trail runner and outdoor enthusiast. Through this channel I want to share my love of trial running, show you the beautiful Cotswolds and help you become a better runner. Through my pain and experience I'd like to encourage and inspire as many people as possible into this amazing sport!
How did you find the Arc vs LL100? I finished LL100 in this year and entered into the Arc, trying to get an idea timings if I can race with a similar level of fitness.
Hey! Thanks for watching. I think I found the LL100 tougher. The climbs were longer compared to the shorter steeper climbs on the Arc. I did LL100 in 31.5hrs vs Arc 26.5hrs. For the Arc I focussed training on fuelling and pushing the first 25miles so I could get ahead. I’m entered for the Arc 2025 and going for sub 24hrs. I need to get to Lands End in decent shape and avoid nausea/stomach issues this time. Best of luck!
Sounded like insanely tough conditions when the voice over said, "struggling to walk and covered in lice, Dennis and friends were in dire need of help..." but then I realised the video had been interrupted by an ad for a donkey sanctuary!
Wow, a dad of 40...with that many kids how do you find the time to run? 😅 Thanks for the great content. I'm working my way through your back catalogue. 😊
Was good to see you there..manage to see myself in the video 😂😂 Hope the knee is doing better.. funnily enough I became injured of the back of this too 😂 no pain no glory 💕
Well done on 10!! It was a great event - my first backyard ultra too - I only managed 6 as I pulled a muscle in my leg and I fell over! It was super friendly and I've already registered for next year. Will deffo plan on at least 10 by then! Chantal :-)))
Loved it! Definitely want to return when back to full fitness. Knee has he all summer to heal and now I’m building fitness ready for another go at the Arc of Attrition! 😬
Nice one Francois, this looked like a lovely route and a good atmosphere. The community feel and seeing the whole of the field at the end of every loop is really cool. Well done on getting well past hour initial target with the knee trouble. Hope it continues to mend well
Fantastic video, well put together with a great soundtrack! I completed this in 2022, didn’t get round last year and going again for it this year to make the score 2 - 1! You’ve made me even more determined than ever to make sure I get round this year! Cheers!
I completed my first marathon on Sunday (London marathon) i did it in 5.33.59 so not fast but im so proud that I didn't walk at all. I have signed up for this in February 2025. I'm hoping to complete it in the time frame of 12 hours. I think I'll be quicker than that.
Amazing! Brilliant running and in "less than ideal" 😂 conditions. I have just signed up for this year and just watched your video with a 50/50 split of excitement and terror
I thought it was about time I watched this - Highlight has to be you quoting Eminem 😆 I definitely need to have a beasting on those hills - some of those climbs looked brutal!
Been running since 2017, I did about 2years on road between 5k and half marathon, then switched solely to trail and long distance. It doesn't matter how long it takes you, we're all built differently, it matters how consistent you are. Now that you have that 10k benchmark, stick at it and I'm sure it'll come down. Good Luck!
i can only run some of the time to stay in zone 2, so these are always run walks for me. usually 6 min runs 10 min brisk walks keep me in the zone for as many hours as I care to go.
Perfect! That's the whole point! To continue for as long as needed without stressing/straining the heart and lungs. I use run/walk in all my ultras. It's a necessity to complete 100 miles (for me at least). Thanks for watching and commenting.
Of course. I’m putting a miniseries together on preparing for an ultra and one of those episodes will be on navigation. I’m aware that many people worry about uploading and using a gps watch as well as navigating at night. I was also worried about this going into the Arc, but it turned out ok luckily. Thanks for the support and stay tuned! 👍
Really, really good. I watch a lot of ultra vlogs and this was one of the best I've watched. Documented the ups and downs extremely well. Well done my friend. You have a new subscriber!
Wow many thanks for the kind words! Means a lot. Glad you enjoyed and that I managed to convey the experience. Thanks for following, plenty more to come!
Huge thanks to you for the support and watching! I’m just glad I managed to keep filming, even when it was tough! I want to show the reality of running these races, it’s not always sunshine and rainbows!
Glad to hear it! Of course, the series will make an appearance soon! Hopefully gives a bit more detail on how I plan my races and training. Thanks for the support! 👊
Really well articulated breakdown 👌 the key takeaway here for me is using average pace - I will def put this into practice in training for the next ultra. Glad you’re recovering well & looking forward to the series!
No problem, glad some of it helped. The series should hopefully explain each element more clearly, well at least the way I prepare. It's optional to copy it! I have a bit of OCD when it comes to planning!
