Usually don't comment on videos, but. (Also disclaimer: only watched this show via youtube cause I had no hope, still don't.) Why are these camera angles so freaking close! It's so hard to tell what is going on cause the camera is right up in the actors faces during the fight scenes.
It comes from a lack of familiarity with filmmaking. I’ve looked into these creatives and directors and haven’t found the strongest catalog that lends to a show like Avatar! Glad I wasn’t the only one who noticed tho
Just because we're on the topic of Netflix adaptations of anime, I'm curious to see your analysis of the Live Action One Piece fights. While I feel there isn't an explicit display of traditional martial arts, I think there was som neat choreography at play there!
It’s funny because I liked the direction they took the series in every way except for action 😂 although I’d still love to make a video on it! The Yu Yu Hakusho adaptation also had INCREDIBLE fight choreography for Yusuke
The blue spirit fight was a lot better than I expected but I have mixed feelings about Zuko and Ozai's fight. I don't think a 13 year old Zuko should have the type of opening he did, it makes Ozai feel like less of a threat to team Avatar
Unrelated, but I feel the Legend of Korra sometimes falls into this trap as well with the bending not being as strongly rooted in the philosophy and appropriate martial arts style (like Korra randomly gaining the ability to throw air punches and kicks at Amon). The introduction of mecha tanks, spirit beams, and giant robots also makes it feel a bit too much like power rangers and reduces the bender vs bender fights we see, which is disappointing. Despite that, it is still leaps and bounds ahead of Netflix's version. They're not even close.
I enjoy your breakdowns of this show, I give the LA a 4 out of 10, hoping seasons 2 and 3 are closer to the source material as far as giving us more of a difference between the elements and bending styles, Martial arts wise. Can you please watch and break down The Raid Film's, John wick film's, and Atomic Blonde, they're some lf the best Martial arts ever seen on screen and I know you'll appreciate the authenticity of each film individually. 💯🙏🏾😃
Advice from someone with a wide screen cellphone: If most of your video is widescreen, upload in that format. People whose phones aren't that wide will have black bars added by the video player, but people like me can just enjoy your video in the optimal way. If you add black bars as part of the video, we get essentially a black border.
Weird. I shot this on a LUMIX G7. Are you referring to the footage from the show? Because that’s just captured directly from Netflix. I never noticed it I guess because I test-view these on my computer and phone
@@camgoodkicks The recording device is irrelevant. Most of the video has black bars, so instead of having a few moments where the space the bars take is used, just crop the bars out and move other things if needed. It's not a big issue. It's just that I have seen other RU-vidrs say that when they were small, constructive critique in the comments was how they improved the most, so I provide constructive critiques in hopes they turn out to be useful.
If they were going to commit to wizard fire casting they could've just made Azula a stronger caster than Zuko while Zuko is the better martial artist. Make her a spoiled brat who was "naturally gifted", rarely having to lift a finger since she was blessed with power. Maybe it could play into her insecurities in her martial arts skills. When she lashes out at the teacher, have the teacher ultimately outskill her only for her to resort her bending which is way more powerful than the teacher's (gasp blue fire??). Just a thought! I think it'd be a decent way to close the powergap between her and Zuko and still have it be convincing!
Seriously, at least with new characters and storylines they wouldn't have butchered the original material as much, and they probably could've cast more actors with martial arts backgrounds if they weren't restricted to trying to fit the predesigned characters from the OG. Base the show on the next Earth avatar, or a past avatar we've never heard of (or even Yang Chen or Kyoshi with their novels as a base). Or they could've made the show about Avatar Wan (I think Dallas would make a great Wan) exploring the development of bending and him becoming the first avatar, it would've made more sense for the extras to have "amateurish" bending if it hadn't been refined yet.
Second one's a bunch of fancy moves that look cool but lack stability and piercing power. It's not a lightsaber, you got to be able to pierce through leather and mail. Cool moves though.
Yeah, my favorite parts of the Netflix live action all have to do with zuko, like his relationship with ozai and the detail about how the platoon he spoke up about that led to his duel with ozai ended up becoming his crew for his search.
I want to point out that Boomy had NO WAY to know that Aang was still alive... From his perspective, Aang was probably dead and killed along with the rest of the air benders. So WHY is he so spiteful and angry towards Aang, as if he's been holding this grudge for all those years? The only way this makes sense is if its a Metroman situation, where they find out he's alive and then get mad that he did nothing this whole time... Except Boomy doesn't seem at all surprised that Aang is still around.
I like showing this to people who don't know what any of this is. Tell them the name of anything done here and they repeat with "spinny kick what now?"
Omg! That’s exactly what I thought. It didn’t make sense that live-action Bumi was so angry at Aang when it wasn’t his fault that he got frozen for 100 years. Aang just flew to clear his head then a storm came!! Anyways, great video! ❤️ and yes, Zuko as the main protagonist would be very interesting !!
I appreciate it! They could’ve done something really cool by having Bumi witness Aang leaving but since they didn’t fix the setup it just makes him look petty
i just wanna know why they couldn't have an actual old guy play Bumi. like i know he has to be ripped and fight but i feel like a CGI face swap would still look better than a 40 year old in uncanny SFX makeup
The thing is, Aang’s story can work in live action; he’s the reluctant hero archetype with a coming of age storyline. It’s not an unusual plot for a main hero, and is pretty common in chosen one narratives (which Avatar’s story also is). The problem is they changed that aspect of Aang’s character, so of course his whole story falls apart. There’s no coming of age if he’s already mature.
It peeves me so much that it seems like the ice moves Katara uses aren’t coming from her breath converting the water but just-straight up Frozone/Elsa shooting snowflake blasts from her palms. Sooo..basically ice magic. The ice is coming from nothing. So why wouldn’t she be able to spawn water from her hands at all times either and need a water pouch? No clear water she’s moving and converting to ice-just magically spawns from her palms, completely ruining a lot of the established rules to how waterbending works. And it looks ESPECIALLY goofy and janky physics-wise when she uses it again in the fight with Pakku later on, where she uses it (again from her palms) to shoot out an ice path on the flat ground where she somehow slides along it IN the direction of her ice blasts and I just-it looks SO weird and makes zero sense-I’m sorry.
